Nearly 80 years have passed since a meteor struck the Earth, sending plumes of dust into the atmosphere to create the Great Eclipse. Generations of survivors have grown up without the sun, their days barely brighter than their long, cold nights. Information travels from Citadel to Citadel, changing with each retelling, like a childhood game of telephone. Archivists toil to piece together fragments of truth from the myriad of rumors that blow into town, selling the truth to the trade guilds for a profit. Couriers brave the endless stretches of highway in heavily modified cars, trading goods and information to keep their stomachs and gas tanks above empty. Our story begins when an Archivist receives a stack of VHS tapes promising to demystify the legend of two such Couriers, Preacher and Ghost. This is the first of those four tapes, 'Preacher and Ghost: Tape #1' If you enjoy Post-Apocalyptic wastelands filled with muscle cars and a twist of the supernatural, check out the first short story in the 'Running on Empty' setting, "Preacher and Ghost: Tape #1" Don't Stop. Never Yield.

I wont tell you all about the story because it would ruin it for all of you that are yet to discover the world of 'Preacher and Ghost'. I will say the cover art is right on and is a hint. The world is dark. No sunshine just dark, murky, creepy, scary night all the time. I so enjoy works by this new author. He plans out his stories well. His characters are delightfully good or very dark and sinister. You end up usually liking them both for some reason. This book is great fun. The pages turn themselves fast and faster. The story is gripping and you don't put it down til the end. Who are these folks: William the tape collector? Preacher and Ghost are the new post apocalyptic power team who you are rooting for to win. But win what though? What is Charlie doing in the trunk? Who is Charlie anyway? Thirsty couriers and tall tales, fleshers and fuel. This book has it all, and three more tapes are on the way, and I for one cannot wait to read more adventures of this group. Grab your new tale, get a little snack, eat up and enjoy! If you enjoyed this book as much as I have then read Mr. J Quattlebaum's series Breakdown 1-5 or in book form now. Yeah! Another series that does not disappoint and is really well written, you get attached to certain characters and the twists here are one after another.

They run into loads of trouble and excitement. A short and entertaing read. Looking forward to seeing more adventures from this duo

In the not quite distant past the world experienced a catastrophic meteor strike resulting in a massive die off. And yet, pockets of “civilization” have survived. Limited commerce and presumably even more limited manufacturing still occurs as survivors attempt to muck out an existence. While this Mad Max-like future isn’t my favorite flavor of SHTF fiction, I’ve been impressed with the author’s Breakdown series, so I figured I’d check it out. I found the protagonists Preacher and Ghost to be gritty in a morally compromised way which I expect will make for some interesting tales (this ending certainly surprised me). They’ve clearly developed quite a reputation in their world and it doesn’t appear to necessarily be as heroes.Preacher and Ghost have been a tight team for a long time which has allowed the to get out of some pretty hairy situations including a couple in this first book.Overall, I enjoyed Running on Empty and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys apocalyptic fiction. This first book is heavy on the action so I’m personally hoping the author will flesh out the world more in future books.** Disclaimer, I received a free copy of this book. I am also a big fan of Jordon Quattlebaum’s Breakdown series. **
