The Running of the Hos was a monthly tradition at Bobbey’s that started when the city opened a free health clinic across the street. It ran STD screenings on the third Thursday of every month, and a lot of the women who used that service needed a drink after getting their results. You could take a booth at the window and watch who crossed the street from the clinic’s mirrored glass doors. Any girl who came out smiling, you could figure she was clear. If she was crying, well…you just had to judge that against how hot she was. And if you guessed wrong, there was this free clinic where you could get tested and treated right across the street. ... The course of true sex never did run smooth. When Max and Luie try to get laid in the cheapest, easiest way possible the night leads them to drunkenness, mammalian mixed martial arts, and a gang fight involving skinheads and PETA protesters. If you love stories of stupidity and fistfights, come join Max and Luie in their most recent gonzo adventure. "I laughed until I stopped laughing" -- Bob Hope

It's clear my mother wouldn't read it and I'd probably hide it from my first wife. But Jason Brick's most recent foray into what he calls "gonzo fiction" is top flight. Max Farkas and Luie Grant form an unlikely friendship, and have the kind of adventures, you find in Tim Dorsey or Robert Tacoma's novels. But Brick isn't anyone's copycat. "Episode one" puts the hapless adventurers on a travel bus, where the action begins by their witnessing--more or less, so to speak--two "little persons" having sex. The upshot is an interrupted trip, on everyone's part, and the beginning of a series of linked short stories I'm already very much looking forward to.Brick writes in a number of genres, and is beginning to emerge as a mentor to other writers. The distinction is well-deserved. A stern warning to persons unfamiliar with this sort of writing: sexual situations and plain, even vulgar, language is found throughout. But the effect is no worse, and in a lot of ways better, than sharing an early morning breakfast in an Elko, Nevada truck stop. No really. I've been there.Jason, if this sort of writing--honest, unfiltered, entertaining and sometimes informative--is what it means to be a writer. I'm proud to be one with you. Atta boy.

I decided to give it a 4 out of 5 stars because of the vulgar and graphic nature. It didn't personally bother me much, but I could see someone else stumbling on it and being offended.Disclaimers side, the characters were well developed and so was the culture. I admit that I did have to use urban dictionary a few times to make sure I understood some of the lingo, but it wasn't so bad that it took my focus from the story. The characters were very believable and I've met people who could be Luie, Max, and the rest of the gang. Oh and the kangaroo Rowdy Rhonda Roosey was just perfect. I already have a small chuckle that had the people around me glancing over. There was quite the eventful night of adventures and general troublemaking, but it was very entertaining. I did find two errors, but I've submitted them to the author in case he wanted to fix and update the book.Overall, I'd read more in the series, but I wouldn't go all fangirl just to read them. Great job Jason Brick!

This time we get to know more about their late night activities in dingy bars, having fun with a little sex and kangaroos. Thankfully, not together, though with these two...I recommend ANY part of the Farkas Foxtrots series for those with an open mind...
