The next step in evolution for the human race is about to begin, technology has advanced to the point where instant learning is almost a reality. the big question is who will own the technology? will it be Lucan Taylor with his dreams of helping humanity to grow as a species? or will it be the power hungry CEO of AXIOM corporation trying to control the world? This is the first of three books that will take you on a journey that will change the way we look at the human brain. Explore surreal worlds inside Lucan’s mind, discover the conspiracy behind an awful accident, and watch a doctor trying helplessly to save his patient. But they are not alone, a strange small man who smokes to much and smiles is the key behind everything. OoBE is filled with unique characters and complex situations that will unravel the mystery of Neurotopography. A new science that will someday redefine humanity as we know it. If you like mystery thrillers, science fiction and a little bit of romance, then this book will tell the story of a lifetime. A little taste of what’s to come: ******* “I can't be dead. Where is the light at the end of the dark tunnel? People who have near-death experiences say they feel utterly filled with joy, not fear. This can't be death, can it?" He hadn’t realized it, but there was a doorway right in front of him between the clouds in the sky. He did not see it before, but he felt like it had always been there. The door gave him a sense of satisfaction that he couldn’t explain. He felt intensely curious about finding out what was on the other side of the door and wanted to reach out and open it when another surge of panicked thoughts flooded his mind. “Drugs. It's got to be drugs. I remember I was trying to escape from somebody. I remember I felt scared and had to get away. They must have caught me and drugged me, but why am I able to think clearly, or am I? It can't be drugs." He felt a gaze fall upon him like a brick house, like when you know somebody is looking at you intensely from afar but can't actually pinpoint who or where. He felt a tingling sensation in his nonexistent neck and knew that if he had a body, this feeling would give him goose bumps and would send a shiver down his spine. Being completely uncomfortable like this, made him want to flail his arms in the air. He felt he was again losing control or at least his mind, but there were no arms to flail so he simply couldn't. Such vulnerability and lack of control made Lucan cringe with fear. All of a sudden he was brought back to the task at hand by realizing he was again staring at the floating mahogany door from about 20 feet away and he felt completely immobile with no control over what was happening. “Not drugs, not dead—what is happening then? What is this? It has to..." Lucan heard a giggle coming from the right side, or what he felt was his right side in this messed up reality. The sound came in as if he could hear using ears he did not currently have but he knew there was somebody there. It was the person who had been peering at him from a distance, and the person was getting closer. “Who's there? What's happening? Where am I?" There it was again—the same childish giggle he heard before, but this time it was much nearer, as if the person giggling was walking toward him. This made Lucan very anxious and a bit nervous. Suddenly, he realized that the door was only 10 feet away, as if he was floating up into the sky toward the door slowly getting nearer. ********* What some of the readers have said (Nope nobody famous ;P ): -“…Strong unique characters that evolve with the reader and the story…” -“…Mind boggling concepts, the book makes you question the way you see reality…” -“…Just plain awesome!” Try it out, I know you’ll like it…

Couldn't put this one down for a minute By Kitty Smith I've been a fan of science fiction since I read Phillip Mann's "The Eye of the Queen" at the age of eight, and am always on the lookout for new writers to check out. The concept behind OoBE is fascinating, taking place on the precipice of this huge leap in human advancement. I say precipice because indeed humanity's next step will either be to soar higher than ever imagined, or crash and burn in a pit of greed and madness.Lucan is brilliant, the kind of guy who makes most of us look like drooling idiots. He is fixated with mapping the human mind, coining the term neurotopography for his field of interest. Driven by the need to know, he has no interest in the potential financial gains he could make from his neural interface. He's the only one who feels that way though. The CEO of AXIOM, Marc Jacobson, recognizes that whoever controls neurotopography technology will define the course of humanity and he'll do anything to get his hands on it. His company would be all-powerful, and untouchable. It's a tight story with greedy and ruthless corporations, incredible technology, and an unlikely hero that you can really get behind. Morales did a great job fleshing the characters out, particularly Lucan. The plot has plenty of surprises along the way, and the suspense is a killer. There's even a bit of romance in there to help soften the edges up a bit. I may have read too much in the ending but I'm hoping I'm right in thinking it hinted at a sequel.

Redundancy and run on sentences sprinkled with superfluous obscenity, made for a difficult read. The author demonstrated a great imagination and provided a unique concept of the mind. Hope this is a first draft and that editing will clean up typos and inconsistencies

By Jeff B I’m a science fiction fanatic as well as a huge enthusiast of anything related to technology, so the concept of “OoBE – Awakening” really caught my eye. The idea of instant learning is enchanting, but it is also obvious that such technology could easily be used to either better humanity or enslave it. That’s the advance that society is on the brink of in this amazing science fiction tale, and the dilemma the plot develops upon – who will control the technology?Oscar Morales has woven this advance and dilemma into a tight story that brims over with excitement and suspense. The characters are extremely well-developed and varied, and the science imbued within the plot seems plausible and logical. The book grabs your attention early on, and holds onto it throughout the pages. The only downfall to the novel, and the only reason I can’t give it 5 stars, is the poor editing and grammar that occurs here and there throughout the book. It isn’t rampant, by any means, but even the occasional misplaced apostrophe or question mark is enough to detract from the enjoyment of the story.
