"The entire affair is shrouded in mystery," said D'Arnot. "I have it on the best of authority that neither the police nor the special agents of the general staff have the faintest conception of how it was accomplished. All they know, all that anyone knows, is that Nikolas Rokoff has escaped." John Clayton, Lord Greystoke—he who had been "Tarzan of the Apes"—sat in silence in the apartments of his friend, Lieutenant Paul D'Arnot, in Paris, gazing meditatively at the toe of his immaculate boot.

The book is written in an easily readable style, and makes enjoyable pleasant, light reading. The author is writing at the beginning of the 20th century, when much of the African continent was unknown. It is interesting to follow the workings of his mind, as he creates a series of interesting and unique civilizations for Tarzan and the reader to explore. As part of the format, one knows that our hero will find himself in mortal peril, but will predictably always escape, allowing us to look forward to the next book in the series.

Well, he's back, stranding Tarzan on a deserted island and taking Jane and her baby away. Will he get away with his fiendish plot? Of course, not. Tarzan will enlist some friendly apes and a hungry panther who wants nothing better than to chow down on Tarzan's enemy. Great literature-no. Fun book-yes.Oh, and just a side thought. Don't be a FOT(Friend of Tarzan). Supporting characters that try to help out Tarzan or, in this case, his wife, never seem to live to be in the next novel.

I have been a fan of his since I was a kid. He is a prolific writer, and one can tell the stories were originally serialized, but I have read most of his books and many of them multiple times. And the Tarzan books? Well, I have read the whole series and the first two books (he doesn't get Jane until the end of the second) I have read many times. So much fun and I recommend as good reading for teens of all ages!
