Mark Brydges, a 27-year-old wrought iron designer, considers himself nothing out of the ordinary. He has no clue who his father is - or if he has a father at all - and was raised by a distant and depressed mother, so he is used to the unknown. Little does he realize, he is about to get a larger dose of the unknown than anything he could imagine.Author Robert L. Ballantyne challenges the very history of the human race with his new science fiction novel, "Pharaohs of the Sky" (published by iUniverse), which follows Mark as he unravels a conspiracy surrounding the history of humanity, a journey that will lead him all the way to Egypt.Henry Booth, a famous proponent of the ancient astronaut theory - which meditates on the notion that humanity originated from space - is wrought with grief when his dear friend is murdered. Not far away, Mark feels a strange connection to the murder, which drives him to seek out Henry. Upon meeting Mark, Henry soon finds a reason to quit grieving and start celebrating, as he believes Mark is the missing piece to his theory."Pharaohs of the Sky" follows these two as they scramble to solve the mystery surrounding mankind's origins. With the help of an Egyptian detective, they race against time and a menacing villain who aims to harness Mark's knowledge - for all the wrong reasons.

Review "Pharaohs of the Sky is one of those books that forces the reader into a true predicament: to choose between turning pages quickly, all the faster to uncover the mystery, or reading slowly, all the better to savor the text...Erich von Däniken brought ancient astronaut theory to international attention, and with the publication of Pharaohs of the Sky, Robert Ballantyne is well-poised to follow in his footsteps." - Pacific Book Review

From the Inside Flap Imagine that everything you know is wrong. In Cairo, after uncovering evidence he believes will alter humanity's perception of its own history, an eminent university professor is viciously murdered. In another part of the Egyptian capital, a determined police inspector will stop at nothing to find the murderer. In Washington, the murderers are still plotting. In Toronto, one of the world's leading ancient-astronaut proponents receives a startling message to decode a mysterious set of coordinates. In another part of Ontario, a young, self-employed wrought iron designer is convinced he is somehow involved. And in the sky, someone is watching... Thus begins Robert L. Ballantyne's debut novel. From the streets of Toronto to a secretive Washington book shop, from the heart of Cairo to the peaks of the great pyramids, Pharaohs of the Sky lures you into a world where nothing is as it seems, and where clandestine operatives conspire to hide the truth. In this international mystery, fact remains elusive by design and fate alike, yet all revolves around the answer to one question: Are we really alone? It's time to question everything we think we know.

From the Back Cover Avoice was calling to him.  A Tourism andAntiquities Police officer, also his personal driver, speaking in the familiar CaireneArabic that so dominated the region.  Cairene. The alluring quality of the word. The way it forms itself in the mouth. It epitomised the region's exoticism.Other words of this land, these people, had the same effect... "We should go now, Professor," the officer saidto him.  Young, hawk-nosed, shadow-eyed, profuselymoustached, clad in the traditional collared white shirt and trousers, blackboots and beret, of the TAP.  A holsteredpistol at his hip.  "You wanted me toremind you of the time.  You wanted to beback at the hotel before evening."Heelected to linger, still transfixed on the pyramids and a proliferation ofadvancing shadows the time of day secreted.Hurried shadows.  But they wereonly fooling themselves.  Soon thefloodlights would be engaged, and these colossal structures would beckon oncemore; darkness never truly showed itself here. The Giza Plateau was the essence of forever.  Like the Nile, like sand.  Like time, like memories.  "Professor...?"Hisdesire was to stay, tonight and forever after, here in the desert, curled underthe majesty of the pyramids, so that the sun and the sand might preserve hisbody as it had those who had come before, before there was anything likenecessity and loneliness, when there was only a land called Khemit and delicious secrets inhaled byan ancient people.  He longed to remain,to become a Keeper of these secrets, these traditions, these realities.  As one yearns for happiness or fortitude orlove, he yearned for this.  Secrets loston today's populace.  Most everyone was anon-believer today. Henodded.  Quite right.  They should go.

Upon completing this amazing novel; I can definitely see it on the big screen. I was so captivated by the chase scenes. I felt I was actually going thru the motions. As a history buff, I thoroughly enjoyed the aspects and information about the Egyptian culture and history. My favorite character was the inspector, his quirky sense of humor. With all the effort being put forth by man today, to search the galaxy for life form, this novel leaves one pondering that thought, "is someone watching us".
