The plot and settings are well developed, though the scope and timeframe seem more suited to a longer work. This short story could serve as a chapter outline for a novel. Two kids alone against the wilderness - with a lot more fleshing out and detailing, it could potentially be another Gary Paulsen or Will Hobbs. Because it's told in the first person, the voice in which it's told seems about right for the main character. I'd like to see more interaction between the two characters, especially dialogue, and much more "show" and less "tell." All in all, a well thought out story here, with lots of potential for expansion. - Ken Wallin, author of Falling to Eden and Passport to Adventure.
