Grace Mazza Urbanski, director of Children's Ministry for the Apostleship of Prayer, gives parents practical advice on how to help children find opportunities to pray throughout the day. Using warmth, humor, and passion, Urbanski draws on personal experience to show how families are brought closer together through deeper contact with God.There are opportunities for children to pray everywhere--when a friend gets hurt on the playground, before a test in the classroom, and even as they hear ambulance sirens while riding in the car with mom or dad--not just at meals and bedtime. In Pray with Me, Urbanski identifies seven ways that parents can help deepen their child's relationship with God by using everyday life as a trigger for prayer. She shows how spontaneous prayer, traditional prayers you know by heart, scripture, song, silence, and reflection help families draw closer to God and each other.Urbanski weaves personal stories with a heartfelt devotion to Christ to teach parents how to help their children learn to respond to life in prayer.

Review "Pray with Me, a practical, down-to-earth guide, is filled with suggestions for helping you, your children, and your grandchildren to make prayer a part of everyday life. The author examines memorized prayer, sung prayer, lectio divina, Ignatian and other forms of prayer, and how to experience them with youngsters. At the same time, it assists parents and grandparents in deepening their own prayer life, leading to strong family bonds with Jesus and one another." --Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, Archbishop of New York "In Pray with Me, Grace Mazza Urbanski walks alongside parents in a thoughtful consideration of the gift of prayer. Grace shares from her theological expertise and a mother's caring heart to inspire you into a dialogue with God and your family. She gives us highly useful ideas to make prayer an active part of our domestic church. I highly recommend this for any parent, grandparent, son, or daughter looking to grow closer to God and their loved ones." --Lisa M. Hendey, Founder of CatholicMom.com and author of The Grace of Yes"Grace Mazza Urbanski has gifted us with a smart, engaging, and thoughtful book to jump-start prayer life with our children. Pray with Me is a great way to invite young parents to see the goodness of God in the midst of the messy calling known as parenting." --Tim and Sue Muldoon, Authors of Six Sacred Rules for Families"At the turn of millennium, Pope St. John Paul II said that our communities need to be 'schools of prayer.' Through personal stories and very practical suggestions, Grace Mazza Urbanski provides the material for families to become schools of prayer. She does so in a humorous and moving way that makes Pray with Me both fun and inspiring." --Rev. James Kubicki, National director of the Apostleship of Prayer

By david wacholz Ms. Urbanski’s is a refreshing voice of clarity, purpose, and generosity; her challenge to all parents is to help children discover and cultivate moments of God’s grace, a challenge that she has made systematically accessible to all the faithful with Pray With Me. This splendid little primer is the perfect call to pray for families who may not have an established tradition of prayer; it is also an reaffirmation of the richness of Catholic Christian prayer life for those already in the fold.Ms. Urbanski writes with a tone and emphasis that inspire one to see that both family and prayer are active verbs. One feels that her book is a warm invitation to enter the living space of prayer and let silence, gratitiude, and attentiveness be rewarded.

Excellent Guide to Praying with Your Children By Patrice Fagnant-macarthur “Pray with Me: Seven Simple Ways to Pray with Your Children” is a great gift to Catholic parents everywhere. Grace Mazza Urbanski, the director of Children’s Ministry for the Apostleship of Prayer in the United States, has degrees in English and Theology, and is also the mother of five children. She offers both her personal and professional expertise in this guide to helping your children learn how to pray.Even if we ourselves have an active prayer life, it can be difficult to pray with our children and help them develop their own relationship with God. We can trust that God will help us in our endeavor. “When our children need help, we offer what we can. Ultimately, prayer is God’s gifts; he improves our imperfect attempts to help our children pray.”The seven means of prayer discussed are praying spontaneously, praying from memory, praying with scripture, praying with song, praying with silence, praying with reflection, and praying with the Apostleship of Prayer. The Appendix offers a brief treasury of classic Catholic prayers.“Prayer is an active, personal relationship with God; it gives us access to God and permits God to reach into our lives and our hearts.” It is so important that we help our children cultivate the practice of prayer. While “parents are the first gift God gives children,” we must always remember that God created our children and is their heavenly Father. “God already has a personal relationship with [our children.]” It is our job to help them be aware of that relationship and help develop it.Some of the forms of prayer that Urbanski describes will come easier to certain individuals and families than others. That’s okay. There is no wrong way to pray if we approach God with a humble heart and an honest effort to reach out to Him. The important thing is to pray ourselves, and to pray with our children.Parents are sure to find some much needed encouragement and practical suggestions within the pages of “Pray with Me.” It would also make a great addition to any parish library.

At our house we have gotten lax even about saying grace before meals. I know the kids think it's boring sometimes. Prayers at bedtime? Hit or miss. Yet I and my spouse are serious believers, and we want to do our duty towards our kids. This book is already helping us.Yesterday I was putting my 8 year old son to bed and I asked him if he would like to try to pray in silence. He was curious, but agreed. I welcomed the presence of the Lord into the room, thanking and loving God. I asked God to be with us in the silence and speak to our hearts. It was beautiful to sit there in silence trusting God was present with my son as with me. After a minute or two, I touched his hand and said, "okay, honey." He opened his eyes wide and said "wow." He was genuinely moved. This book talks about many ways to pray with kids, and I want to try them all. Not only can it help my children know and love God better, clearly it can help us to draw closer to each other as a family. The family that prays together...
