It contains no notes on the Scripture or any other maps or references. It’s more like a devotional Bible than a study Bible. You’ll get great insights from women about the text, but none of the essays really helped me understand a particular passage in more depth. It’s a bit difficult rating a Bible, so my rating is solely on the essays. I went through and read ones by authors I recognized as well as ones I randomly flipped to. There are two reasons I gave this a 4/5 star rating: First, I wish the essays were a bit more spread out. For the most part, they are sprinkled throughout the Bible, but there are several sections with 3-4 essays all in a row. It seemed to interrupt the flow. But, as a devotional book, I’m not sure the flow is necessary. The second is a small criticism, but many of the essays were republished from blog posts and books. I was hoping for all new content. (Though that was never advertised.) Especially for authors who I have followed for a while and whose books I’ve read, it didn’t feel fresh.I’d recommend this version to women who already know the Bible and are looking for insights and ideas from contemporary thinkers.**I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my opinion.**

It is a Bible, we all know what that is. It also has 52 myths scattered throughout; I haven't read them all yet, but I can't wait to. In the front, it has a table of contents and a foreword. In the back, it has a table of weights and measures, acknowledgments index, contributor biographies, topical index, and note pages. The note pages will come in handy, as my old Bible is all marked up. There are only nine of them, wish there were a few more, as you can never have enough of those. Also, the topical index will come in handy. I have a book like that, that an old friend gave to me, that lists certain topics, such as faith, fear, family, love, etc, and gives Bible scriptures to go to to read about the subject. In fact, you can find those books in abundance in the Christian book stores or sections. But the difference between those books and this section of this Bible, is that there are topics that I've never seen in those booklets. I guess, we've all read about all the old topics, and now we're ready to move on to topics that haven't been explored yet. I will not say "new" topics, but rather "topics that haven't been explored yet", because nothing is new under the sun to God; He's had all these things and knew all these things every since the Beginning. Oh, you would not believe how anxious I am to read about all the topics in this topical index section.I also enjoyed the foreword by Shauna Niequist. Sounds like she had a cozy upbringing with some strong Christian women in her life. Unfortunately, we have not all had that. But all we can do, is go forward from here, and let our kids and grandkids see our love for God, and allow them to have that cozy life with God all in it. Believe me, I know the difference between a life with God and a life without God. It is so cozy with God in the middle of it. And secure, fulfilled, warm, satisfied, and so full of joy. Without Him, it is miserable, cold, lacking, unfulfilled, insecure. I know, I've lived both lives. It has nothing to do with money or stuff you accumulate or power, either at work or at home. Any woman who does not feel like a princess, daughter of THE KING (or a prince if you are a man), I encourage you to start reading the Bible and find out for yourselves.I love reading the Bible so much. I love reading, that is my God-given hobby. And I love God so much, so therefore, when you put the two together (loving to read and loving God), I LOVE to read the Bible. I go through Bibles every few years. They just tear up after a while. I am just so glad I have the freedom, the time, the ability, the eyesight, the desire, and the knowledge to read the Bible. I don't ever want that taken away from me. Even though I've read the whole Bible a couple of times, I can never get enough of it.I love this Bible so much, and I can't wait to start using it. I also can't wait to read the biographies at the back; it is always encouraging to read about other Christians.

At one time, my favorite "secondary" Bible (not the one I studied from and took to church) was the original Women's Devotional Bible. It was just what a busy mom needed to pick up from time to time and read a devotional from a well respected author... embedded within the very part of Scripture she was writing about. This is the latest edition of such a devotional Bible. It has devotions from such modern writers as: Naomi Zacharias, Rachel Held Evans, Katie Davis, Margaret Feinberg, Tsh Oxenreider, and Annie Downs. The forward to this edition is by Shauna Niequist.I had to chuckle when reading through some of the devotions for such topics did not exist in my original Women's Devotional Bible. Such as "The True Bonds of Friendship Are Built Offline". For that was back when "offline" meant taking the dry clothes off the clothesline.I do believe women will enjoy this Bible, especially when used as a devotional. It is very good. With one huge flaw for some of us. The font is teeny tiny as well as quite light. It was at times impossible for me to read as I do not have the best eyesight. It was hard to read even with my strongest reading glasses. So I would say this devotional Bible is quite good with the caveat... for those with excellent eyesight. This Bible was provided by the publisher for the sake of review although the opinions are my own.
