In the year 2122, the sun ejects a massive cloud of charged plasma particles and life-altering radiation. The solar wind reaches Earth, destroying all advanced technology and civilization; overheating the Earth's core to a point the planet is shattered into fragments plunging humanity into a chasm of despair. A hundred years later, society slowly reorganizes itself. A new government system arises, forcing the survivors into two groups: the Xigen and the HumaniX. Those who do not fit within either group are arranged into a five-tiered caste system: Priests, Communicators, Warriors, Outcasts, and the Dregs. As the two major factions rise up from the chaos, cementing their hold on society, a decade-long war ensues, setting the human race on a course for complete destruction. Now, two survivors of the HumaniX, Travis and his partner Nelson, stumble into the heart of the conflict. The two of them embark on an incredible journey -- filled with daring rescues, dangerous magic and deadly open warfare -- that may change the course of history.

The two men, however, are soon part of the conflict between two powers - locked in a war. It looks like curtains for sure! The book is crafted with care. Ward is a wordsmith.Ward has created an exciting Science Fiction thriller. The conversation is well done. The days of Buck Rogers return. This is a great book for boys of all ages - from 8 to 80!

This is set against the back-drop of a war between two great factions. For me the big problem was the length, I love short stories, but this is a short story forming a serial, which is fine, but you don't get any closure for this story, you have to read the next. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against seriels, but each part should have a self contained story. In this case everything is focused on the race and for the story to just stop as the race gets going is a bit off putting.Which is a shame because I was really enjoying it up until that point. The story is fun, it's well written in a relaxed style that makes it a joy to read. It offers interesting flashes of the wiser world, a world I would be happy to learn more about.A mixed bag, worth reading, but prepared to have to buy the next short and the next. Or maybe wait until they are all collated into a single collection.

By Kimberlee Smith This story blends tension, risk, and a relationship that two courageous adventurers share that can have permanent devastating results, or a salvation. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish it were longer--it was a fast ride for sure--and I didn't want to get off. Also, Sci Fi isn't generally my genre of choice, but I was surprised by how the story really drew me in. Ward impressed me and may have just turned me into a fan of a genre I hadn't tapped into before. Definitely worth trying something new. This author is an adventurous, wildly creative writer.
