In 2315, the Earth Union is losing a thirty-year-long war with the Krag Hegemony.
Having encountered the Krag before, Space Commander Max Robicheaux now faces daunting challenges aboard the USS Cumberland: the dangers from the enemy without… and clashes with crew and superiors within.
Meanwhile, Doctor Sahin receives a coded message summoning him to a secret meeting which aims to forge an alliance that could change the balance of power in Known Space. But first, he must circumvent the fighter ships and heavily armed troops of the traitorous emir bent on killing him before he reaches the negotiating table.
Both men must call upon their developing skills and growing friendship to bear the burden of carrying between the Krag Hegemony and the Earth Union a fateful ultimatum and the shocking answer: an answer that could spell eternal slavery, or even extinction, for all humankind.
The second novel in the Man of War series, For Honor We Stand continues the galactic naval adventures of Robicheaux and Sahin.

The book opens with max in the midst of battle with two Krag ships, the Cumberland has sustained damage and destruction seems imminent. This sets the tone for almost the entire book as Max skipped from battle to battle. This book gives a better look at what daily life on the ship is for the crew and the Midshipmen, we also get to see Max develop more as a leader of men, and how he explores what type of leader he wants to be. The crew while overall healthier than when Max first took command is by no means completely healed from the previous captain, the unlamented Oscar. this book also shows how the alliance with the Pfelung is going and holds a few surprises about new alliances. We are also left with a surprise ending that has left me practically salivating for the next book.Kudos to the authors. And thank you sincerely for another great read

Amazing Sequel By ddsilver Having greatly enjoyed the first book in this series I was very excited when I learned the next book in the series was available.Even better than the first book this one jumps right into the action and continues the action right up to the very end. I was very pleased with the pacing of this novel. It managed to continue to examine how ships of the future will operate but also added even more wonderfully narrated battles. The excitement continued right up to the very last word that kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen. I am ready for the next one.I was especially pleased with the return of Mr. Wortham-Biggs. I also enjoyed a discussion of the motivation of the Krag that took place about half way through, it really went a long way in exploring the depth of the universe. One thing that I noted in passing was the authors take on religion in space, many sci-fi series seem to think that once out in spaceeveryone will be non-religious or part of some universal belief system, it's a refreshing take that the different faiths will still beout there and really goes a long way to adding even more depth to the motivation of characters. We get a glimpse of the political situation in the Union near the end and I really hope that is explored more in the next book to really get a complete look at all the different motivations of the characters.Would highly recommend this to fans of military sci-fi or really any sci-fi fans at all.

The protagonist, LCDR Max Robichaux, pleasantly shows growth in his character as he settles into command of his ship. This book felt more space combat focused than the original book, and the choreography of the battles was excellent. Hopefully in future books, as Max goes on to bigger and better things, this level of quality continues to operational level. All around, a solid work. The writing quality will not be winning literary awards, but the characters are capable of expressing complex ideas and I didn't catch any editing errors. Even side characters rise above the level of 2-d cutouts. As a submariner, this series does a surprisingly good job of capturing the feeling of being underway, much better most other military space/sci-fi series I've read. I look forward to the next book in the seriesIf you enjoyed the first book I strongly recommend For Honor We Stand.
