Great book, with an engaging and entartaining story line By Amazon Customer Even though the writers first language isn't English, it doesn't show in his writing. It is grammatically correct and well written. The author manages to suck you in to the story, and keep you in suspense. It is engaging, and very entertaining to read. It offers a different and enlightened view on our world, and culture today. It also takes advantage of displaying and discussing both traditional bowie knife and bows as weapons, used o great effect by the main characters. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy fiction, and will reading all of his other novels as they come out.

Very helpful, solid, and wide-ranging By Michael L My wife and I have read many practical marriage books in the past few years, and we agree this is hands-down the best. Popcak presents a solidly Catholic foundation for marriage, and fills it out with down-to-earth and thoughtful practical advice.While many marriage books today tend to concentrate in one particular area, a strength of this book is that it draws from other books with narrower scope (Gottman's "Seven Principles...", Chapman's "Love Languages", etc.) and works them into a more synthesized whole. The best I can say about Popcak's book in comparison is that while I thought those other books were perfectly fine, this one tends to make them look superficial by comparison.Popcak has a slightly quirky style of occasional wise cracks, but the underlying message is presented with enough care and thoughtfulness that this doesn't detract.His chapter on vulnerability is really, really, good, and his chapter on the beauty, and wonder of sex should be required reading for people who mistakenly think that Catholics think sex is sinful or bad. Also, his classification of stages of marriage was something we found very insightful and helpful, if painful to consider at times when seeing how we measured up! But even so, it was tremendously helpful in pointing out areas to work hard on.His exercises at the ends of chapters are generally good, but couples with trouble communicating might want to defer sharing some of them until things improve (such as the one early on about sharing what is annoying about your spouse -- ouch!).As a bonus, he also provides practical details for how to get help from good, supportive counselors for couples who need that (including himself, via phone!).

This book has many words of wisdom and practical advice for all marriages. My husband and I have a solid, stable marriage, but it can always be better and more faith-filled. This book provides a great foundation for creating a great marriage. It discusses bringing Jesus into your marriage and how to be Christ to your partner; how to be a loving mate even when you don't feel like it; what the different "love-languages" are, and more.This book does mention Catholicism is a few sections, but overall, it is more geared toward any practicing Christian. I highly recommend it to any newly or long-married couple.

Her use of adjectives and her overall writing captured my attention from the very beginning. I think what I found most interesting was her understanding of "loss" and how it really feels to lose people in your life. At her age, ( I believe she would have been eleven at the time she began writing this) I find that to be a rare thing and applaud the manner in which she handled it in the story itself and how it came out of the pages and touched my heart. Kudos to you Madeline!!!!!!!!!!! I do hope you will try your hand and imagination at more books and I surely will make a point of reading them!

By Christopher Tears came to my eyes as I read "Of Ships and Shadows", as it felt as though the author had just won an Olympic medal. Her writing is incredibly accomplished and both the story line and characters are extremely well developed. The entire novel is simply wonderful, from the title, to the chapter titles, to how each sentence and paragraph is constructed, to the hooks at the end of each chapter requiring the reader to go on. Even the hints of backstory that leave one with shadowy questions, wanting to read more from this young and aspiring author, and hoping that she’ll share more about Rhett and Tracy and… whatever happens back in Obscurum? And just who is Dran? Nakeata’s writing draws you in and makes you hungry for more!

With locations in Prague, Paris, Greece and the Louisiana bayou, the action keeps moving with interesting locations that include the seat of government in the Czech Republic, an alligator farm and a haunted castle. The author ties this together in a fun and engaging manner that keeps you turning the pages. A quick read with a plot that never slows down. If you like James Bond novels or Clive Cussler, you will enjoy Fantome as it includes many of the same elements with the exception of hot steamy romance. The main characters have more romantic tension than sex.

While the story was fast paced and engrossing, I particularly enjoyed the author's description of the many actual historical sites that were the backdrop to the story. It's one of those books you put your nose into and keep it there until the end.

By Mauistyle My husband and I both loved the book. I would say that anyone who was ever into Jimmy Buffet and the Key West scene would enjoy revisiting old Key West and the goings on in the book. What Robert Kirkman always says was his initial focus for THE WALKING DEAD was to explore what happens after the end credits rolled on most zombie movies. "OK, so what's next?" Well, after more than a hundred issues of the comic books, and many tragic deaths to beloved characters, as well as a few truly bad human beings, the post-zombie apocalypse South has reached some semblance of stability again. While this weird calm that has settled doesn't make for crowd-pleasing action or horror, the fact that more than a year's worth of comics have been more devoted to social and character development speaks to Kirkman's dedication to his premise. (And, hey, how about a round of applause to Kirkman and Charlie Adlard for sticking around with their tireless tenacity, huh? Adlard has devoted so many hours to this project I'm sure he's forgotten the names of his family.) Whispers Into Screams was less compelling as an installment primarily because it never seemed like there was a clear and.present danger to the main characters, aside from a cowardly poisoning attempt on a leader. But I'm willing to give Kirkman plenty of patience and time, since he seems to have a firm grasp on what the future holds. I've never stuck with a comics series this long, and, at this point, I'm all in.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Now we're getting somewhere! By inwadiwe This issue got me right back into the comic. I have to admit, All Out War was kind of underwhelming. The story went throught the usual Walking Dead comic tropes, killing off someone who is kind of important, but someone you definitely won't miss, while allowing Rick Grimes to win and do it the Rick Grimes way. After, however, we started getting to a point of normality in the wasteland, and building a world of wasteland politics and life after the apocalypse. This is the story I've been waiting for, there's an oversaturation fo stories about the outbreak, but not enough talking about what happens after, what happens when we adapt and are trying to live amongst the dead instead of fighting them. This is where it looks like it's going, and if I'm right, I'm in. There's some really good character devlopment from the other main characters in this book. We finally get to see more of Carl and his growth as a human in this world, we revist some old friends, and we get some developments along the way. There were some sloppy moves and tactics throughout the book, but if it pays off the way I'm hoping, I won't mind. B+, definitely give it a read.

Prior to the walking dead comic book series, I had to endure a lot let down, piss poor zombie movies. I can't see R. Kirkman ruining this series any time soon, so, 5 stars all the way. I will probably copy and paste this review for every volume/book I buy. I will continue wait for the volume/books to come every time instead of actually subscribing to the comic because the comics are to short, its a tease. In fact every time I get one of these volumes/books, I read the whole thing within minutes.

Should be read 1st, and is a good 1st in series By Amazon Customer Not sure why the author decided to make this a "prequel" - it could very well stand on its own as Book 1 in the series, it's long enough to be considered a full length novel, and I certainly recommend you read it first.Anyhoo - it was a fantastic read. I'm not a soccer (I know, I know - Football) fan. I think I've seen all of six matches my whole life. It didn't stop me from enjoying the book. The descriptions of the matches were more sensory oriented than play oriented, which meant I could feel the pitch and the run and the kick and not feel lost by not knowing soccer terminology.Both Duncan and Brodie were realistic characters who approached issues from different ends of the field. They were able to meet in the middle, sometimes with harsh collisions, and other times with great plays.I'll be adding the rest of this series to my reading list.

This action packed, fast paced novel is a real page turner.The author has developed a tale of intrigue and techno/espionage thriller that is hard to put down once you start reading. It is full of action and plot twist, but it is easy to read and follow.I found Roger D. Grubbs characters to be well developed and easy to follow. I like when characters are real to life and very believable.I liked Agent M II: Pandora's Box by Roger D. Grubbs and recommend this book.

I love the fact that he is so transparent and I prefer, and many times will only, take advice from someone who has actually experienced and learned from the things they are giving advice about. He does not allude to any form of perfection, and it is extremely rare to find someone, especially of his stature, actually remove THEMSELVES from the "pedestal," giving others the opportunity to learn and grow from their personal experiences. If you are considering purchasing this book - do it. His guidance is a true blessing.

Figured I would give it a try.So glad I did! A wide variety of very interesting characters join together for the eternal quest of good. Who doesn't love that in a book!?!?Mr. Trupiano paints a picture of the cities to the point you can smell the dirt on the street. I love that the captain of the airship was a STRONG female lead. I also never thought I could fall in love with an automaton but from the very start my heart was captured by Clogwid. I hope to see much more of him in the follow-up book. I feel that this book was just the beginning of a much bigger story yet to come.I DO HOPE SO!!!!:D

I thought it would have the Month and Day on each page not Day 1, Day 2, etc. I'm not always good about turning pages, so having the actually date is a great reminder. I think if they ever revise this, it would be really helpful.

By Amazon Customer David Harris Lang's second novel, The Witch of Wanchai is a fascinating story that explores the illegal drug and jade trades in Asia, as well as the disappearances of several women. While the book is fiction, the author makes the story real not only through his characters, but also through his descriptions of the Asian landscape. An architect by trade, Lang has lived in Asia most of his life, and can describe the locale first-hand. When a body is discovered in a bar, Ian Hamilton, a Hong Kong detective, is in charge of solving the murder. While investigating he finds the murder is connected not only to missing women who answered employment ads, but also to the illegal jade and drug trades. Ian is not only in danger as he travels to Japan to further investigate, but his friends and family also find themselves in danger.The story has many twists and turns; readers will find that there are enough bad guys that it is impossible to guess the outcome of the story. The Witch is a character like no other; he is ruthless, corrupt, and also has a penchant for barbecued human ribs. Because law enforcement is after him, The Witch travels to other countries to expand his illegal businesses and in the process commits murders with absolutely no conscience. Although the scenarios are not overly violent, they are quite descriptive, and since cannibalism is anathema to most readers, it may be a little much for those with tender stomachs and younger readers. It does, however, villainize The Witch to a much higher level.The book does contain some minor editing errors, such as Khin Khin, referred at location 158 as Khim Khim, the word woman instead of women at location 95, Nosier instead of Noisier at Location 128, and others such as spaces, as well as a few punctuation errors. Hopefully these will be cleaned up, since the story is good enough to appeal to a large body of readers and has the potential to become a big seller.The Witch of Wanchai is not an easy book to put down. The cultural aspects, the characters, and the setting make the book very appealing, and for those who like good thrillers, albeit some violence, it is a very good read.Special thanks to Jenny Hudson of Merrimack Media for supplying a review copy of this book.

By Christine Lampert An exciting adventure that takes place throughout contemporary Asia with so many places that I know and other places that I probably don't want to be too familiar with. I would love to see this book made into a movie starring my favorite character, Angela Cheung who is a tattooed detective with the Hong Kong Police and whose father is a Hong Kong triad leader. I would love to read more about her in future novels. I am looking forward to the next book by David Harris Lang.

By meme@sf This novel will transport you from the jade mines of Myanmar to the shiny skyscrapers of Hong Kong, and many exotic places in between. The story is incredibly interesting and fascinating. Although not graphic, the novel touches on some non-mainstream subjects. I was fortunate enough to d/l during a free promo.
