Iron City Conspiracy propels the reader onto the front pages of a daily newspaper as it solves the murders of a popular politician, minister and deacons of a historic Alabama church. The newspaper's investigation is led by the first African-American newspaper editor in Iron City, once the heart of the Civil Rights movement and a city again torn apart by racial strife. Joe Riordan, the editor, is also fighting to keep his newspaper off the chopping block as its owners conspire with an investor and the rival newspaper owner to sell off the Iron City Post. From the first pages, this story is intense, drawn from today's headlines amid the dangerous search for the bomber and his accomplices. It also provides an insider's look at how newspapers really work and the depth of racial conflicts in cities today.

I worked with this author about 20 years ago when he left the newspaper world for a few years and we worked in the same law firm. I rarely still see him, but he sent me a copy of his book to get my thoughts. The overall topic of the book, a realistic look at the current state of race relations combined with politics, is not one that I would have naturally gravitated to as a reading choice. But since I knew that I would run into him at some point, I felt like I should read it. As you can see from my 5 star rating, I am so glad that I did. He has taken what I consider to be some of the most disturbing real life stories that have been dominating our news recently on black church bombings, racism, race riots and police shootings, and provides a first hand and scary back story that highlights that often there are powerful and racist people on both sides that add fuel to the fire. But it is an incredibly fast moving story, with enjoyable plot twists and mysteries a plenty, that make it hard to put the book down. While it is written as a suspenseful work of fiction, knowing the author, I expect that the story is based more on fact than on fiction, which scares me and should scare everyone that reads this book. It will make you think of your own town, the people that run it, and what will happen when there are no remaining local newspapers that care more about the truth than making a profit. If you like a good murder mystery that also makes you think about the race and political realities that surround you, you will love this book.

Of course, as soon as I started reading, I was hooked!! With all that is happening in our country right now, the story has the ring of truth about it even though it is written as fiction . The story deals with racism, politics and history weaved inside a thriller. With a great plot, great characters, a fast pace, and more than enough twists and turns to tease even the most demanding reader , the book delivers on all levels.Cannot wait for the next one!!!

From the very first page I felt like I was inside the story By Patricia Lowell Iron City Conspiracy is a fast-paced, complex, thoughtful story that examines many of today's most thought-provoking topics--race relations, political influence, the demise of traditional media and more. From the very first page I felt like I was inside the story, holding on tight as the author propelled me through a riveting series of events that had me still turning pages into the wee hours of the morning. This intriguing thriller is much more than a series of clues spread among high-action scenes. The author uses his exceptional knack of storytelling to intelligently explore relevant issues and create characters that I found myself cheering for. Enjoyed it tremendously.
