I think it is appropriate for the tween age range, though older people will enjoy it as well. I liked that it taught the valuable lesson of understanding people that are different, while at the same time entertaining the reader with a fantastical sci fi journey of two twin cat sisters. This is the first book I have read by this author, but I will be keeping an eye out for future work.

It is a compelling story, and the characters are both likeable and realistic (a rarity in today’s literary world!). Although the story involves fantastical elements such as magic, sorcerers, demons, and shapeshifters, the realism of the dialogue and the language makes it completely believable. When Robert Locke, the relatable narrator/protagonist, and his magical coworkers and friends are threatened by dark, terrifying forces beyond anything they have ever encountered before, you feel as if it is happening to your very own friend—and you can’t stop reading until he is out of danger.Although the authors fall a bit short in the grammar/wording department at times over the course of the novel (thus the four stars instead of five), the story more than makes up for it. I very much enjoyed this book, and I am looking forward to the sequel!

I only read science fiction novels and it is difficult for me to find a plot that I haven't read before. Magicians living in our reality has been done before, however the authors find a good way to introduce the characters and expand on their developing relationships with each other. Adding to that is combining a few mythological stories into the historical development which is rarely done as successfully as this book. The antagonist is well developed even though the reader doesn't really see him very often and the antagonist is wonderfully human allowing the reader to connect with a magician who lives outside of our reality. I have recommended this book to my friends and will continue to do so. I look forward to any sequels. The reason I gave this 4 stars and not 5 is because of some editing mistakes along with a habit of the authors to repeat themselves too many times in describing the life of the magic world which distracted from the flow of the story. That said, the story line was compelling enough that I was able to overlook it. - Valerie Ryan

Page one to page last kept me engaged and wanting more. Where does the next story take us? Give me more! The book took me on a journey that was fanciful while being realistic enough to see the possibilities. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves science fiction as well as a realistic fiction lover. The interplay between characters is believable and fun. The twists that show up and the twists that are waiting will keep me coming back to this series. A simple hero for a complex story.Bravo!!

Scaramouche is an historical novel by Rafael Sabatini, originally published in 1921. A romantic adventure, Scaramouche tells the story of a young lawyer during the French Revolution. In the course of his adventures he becomes an actor portraying "Scaramouche" (a roguish buffoon character in the commedia dell'arte). He also becomes a revolutionary, politician, and fencing-master, confounding his enemies with his powerful orations and swordsmanship. He is forced by circumstances to change sides several times. The book also depicts his transformation from cynic to idealist. The three-part novel opens with the memorable line: "He was born with a gift of laughter and a sense that the world was mad." This line was to become Sabatini's epitaph, on his gravestone in Adelboden, Switzerland.

From Publishers Weekly Delightfully courtly, flowery but not dated, Sabatini's period romances--Scaramouche unfolds over the years leading up to the French Revolution--were deservedly popular when originally published, during the 20s and 30s. Copyright 1992 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Review All in all, this sheer knight-errantry is a marvelous entertainment. --Kirkus Reviews

134 of 134 people found the following review helpful. The Ultimate Historical Novel By Kevin Hing Scaramouche is not only Rafael Sabatini's crowning literary achievement, it is one of the most engaging, thought-provoking and exciting historical novels ever written.Andre-Louis Moreau, (or Scaramouche, as he later becomes known), is a fascinatingly complex protagonist. Courageous, intelligent, quick-witted and intensely moral, Moreau is a character whose personal quest for revenge against the villainous Marquis de La Tour d'Azyr is a masterfully-woven story of swashbuckling action, romance and social conflict during the turbulent years of the French Revolution.Well-born lawyer. Fugitive. Dramatic actor. Expert swordsman. Impassioned, mob-inciting orator. Revolutionary politician. Sabatini sets Moreau upon an intriguing path of fate, development and discovery, a fictionalized yet compelling account of a single man's ultimate test of human character as the world around him spirals into madness.Sabatini has often been compared to Alexandre Dumas (author of the Three Musketeers, the Count of Monte Cristo) as a master of historical fiction. Though I believe Dumas to be the finest action-adventure writer of all time, and though some of Sabatini's other works (which I have not yet read) have been criticized as overly melodramatic, Sabatini has created in Scaramouche an historical action-adventure novel that transcends Dumas (and all modern action-adventure writers, for that matter) in that Moreau, his protagonist, is a thoroughly multi-dimensional character. Though Moreau is driven by his hatred and his quest for revenge, the spirit of his character is not defined by them, and the conflict of these passions with his ideals brings depth and substance to his exploits on the Theatre Feydau, the fencing halls of Paris, the floor of the National Assembly and his pursuit of the beautiful Aline de Kercadiou.Duels. Intrigue. Romance. More duels. Moral and political introspection. Its all here. Enjoy!

50 of 50 people found the following review helpful. An engrossing historical romance. By Leonard L. Wilson When his best friend, a young clergyman, is killed in a mockery of a duel by an arrogant noble, just to quiet his eloquent expressions of democratic ideals, Andre-Louis Moreau vows revenge. From that point, through meteoric careers as a consummate actor and scenario writer, then as a fencing master, and finally a politician, the brilliant Moreau keeps thwarting the aims of the aristocratic Marquis de la Tour d'Azyr. However, the nobleman causes pain to Moreau as well, and the time must come when the two will meet to settle their enmity once and for all. You are not likely to guess how their confrontation finally turns out. Set against the backdrop of the French Revolution, this swashbuckling novel is exciting throughout, and it presents one of the most dashing heroes in fiction, a man who can fight equally well with his mind, his mouth, his pen, and his sword, a man who stirs up events wherever he goes. I can't decide whether I like this novel or CAPTAIN BLOOD better, but these two books of Sabatini's are among the very best adventure novels.

25 of 26 people found the following review helpful. A great adventure written by a master By A Customer Sabatini is ranked with the great adventure writers of all time, with Alexandre Dumas, Baroness Orczy, and Robert Louis Stevenson. With one of the best opening lines ever (right up there with "It was the best of times....") Scaramouche is his masterpiece.Andre Louis vows revenge upon the wrongful death of a young clerical friend by the wicked Marquis de la Tour d'Azyr. Taking up his dead friend's cause, he is charged with treason when he incites a crowd to riot. He flees his home and his love, and joins a troup of old school actors. Needless to say, Andre Louis takes on the role of Scaramouche, the rogue, and this way continues to thwart his enemy. He later becomes a fencing master, and...I won't spoil the plot for you, but I have never read a book with such an effective climax. Andre Louis is one of the immortal heroes of all time.

A year later, after diplomatic relations are established, concerns are surfacing. The earth government decides to continue its interstellar program, in secrecy, and launch its most ambitious ship .. a colony ship comprised of over 70 interplanetary freighters coupled to the most advanced hyper space drive every built by mankind. The launch of the colony craft is made far away from the PAC's prying eyes, from the jumble of the asteroid belt. Unfortunately, the PAC detect the launch and disable the h-drive around a rogue high-gravity planet in an unnamed solar system some 100 light years from earth. The PAC drop 12,000 colonists to the planet's surface and take 4,000 to the supposedly secret planet the humans had hoped to colonize. The humans on the rogue planet are on their own .. fighting high gravity, the animals, an alien environment and each other ... and that's just the first day ..

Interesting first novel By Anna Priscilla I found this story fascinating as I am surrounded by the Cherokee reservation in north carolina and have never had the privilege of knowing of how the old times affect today's Cherokee society. I was bothered a bit by what seemed to be short, terse sentences. This may reflect the societal pattern of the Cherokee nation which probably crosses over into modern English useage by the nation. Good mysteries seem to be the door to understanding our Native American heritage and cultures. I would like to hear more from Mr. Suddeth in this regard with more emphasis on the people's lives in one of the most beautiful areas of the country. I have remarked upon the lyric nature of storytelling by authors of similar books.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. More of an LGBT Dramatic Fiction Piece Than a Romance By Linda Fausnet I think this book works as a compelling piece of dramatic fiction, rather than a romance. The main character, Josh, is an anti-hero and is fairly unlikable through most of the book. He cheats on his boyfriend, this time as he pursues a young, vulnerable man named Alex. He gets mad at his current boyfriend for not wanting to have sex in a dirty alley with other men grunting and sweating nearby, he refers to his best female friend as "too curvy" (read, fat), and he is prone to jealous rages even though he is the one cheating.SPOILERS!!!Alex has suffered from domestic abuse in the past, and Josh victimizes him further by demanding him to prove that he's not a "slut" because he was gang raped by his last boyfriend and his cronies. That part was really tough to read and made me extremely uneasy. Josh alternates between tender concern and jealous rages, which is the hallmark of an abusive relationship. The writing in this book was compelling with a breezy style that is easy to read, even if the subject matter isn’t. For fans of m/m romance, this isn’t a sweet, tender love story. I think it works as a piece of dark fiction, but I can't in good conscience call it a romance because there is nothing romantic about abuse.Read it through the lens of a dramatic, tragic fiction and I think it's a solid piece of writing.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great debut novel, with a bonus extension to the epilogue, direct from the author's mailing list. By Roroblu'sMum For a debut novel, this is well-written, well-edited and a good tale with a character who by rights I should have hated, given that I don't like cheats. The author made Joshua/Josh out to be someone very self-assured, as you would expect of a corporate lawyer, who made no excuses for himself and even when he was found out, his cool and detachment never faltered. I didn't hate the guy, which I should have, as I think I read between the lines of the author's excellent writing, to see his love for Alex, from the very start of their how-can-they-work? romance.I liked that theirs was such an unmatched pairing, but that despite the cheating going on - actually, the double cheating - there was still a sense of morality (yes, I know that that sounds like a contradiction in terms, but read it and you'll see what I mean) in the tale. I loved that the characters were such opposites, with depth to both of them, and I liked that Alex ended up being the one with the biggest and pretty horrifying secret/s...The ending for me, was pretty great, with the leads living the start of their HEA and with something about to happen that I had no doubts would cement said HEA even more...but the author skipped some hugely important dialogue, grovelling, pain, shock, angst, horror and remorse, that I felt I should have been able to read, following Alex's (shameful to him) horrifying reveal. I can't believe that something of that magnitude could be dropped into a tale and that there wouldn't be any discussions about it. It was life-changing for both guys, and I felt that I needed to know how Josh dealt with his guilt in the secret being revealed and the pain he, and the secret, put Alex through, and how Alex dealt with his guilt over his feelings over the secret. Had the author given me those scenes, this would have been a 5* read.As it is, it's a solid 4* with some really realistic and refreshing writing, in a very 'London' tale. The author promises a bonus scene/excerpt for people who sign up to her newsletter, which I did part way through the book, after checking her out (the book was good enough that it made me do that don't-go-there thing and skip to the ending, my bad), so depending on that, I might revisit this review. Or, if she ended up doing a freebie read to show us what actually happened during the reveal, or during the ending of the book, maybe that'd add to my enjoyment of the tale. This is a book that I'm glad I took a chance on, and an author I'll have to start looking out for now.Update - I have just rec'd and read the bonus tale, and it was TOTALLY what I'd been hoping for. I can see why the author didn't add it to this book, but she needs to get it out there for people to read, because it's really, really the icing on my cake, and of course, on that of Josh and Alex. The sign-up is entirely legit, as once you submit your details, you get sent a link that you have to respond to to confirm subscription, and I'm sure that I won't be bombarded with any unnecessary bumph. Based on the fact that the bonus is in fact an extension of this book, I'm happy to up my review to the full 5*, though I'm being greedy and would still have liked some dialogue after the reveal. AER, thank you so much for a wonderful bonus read.

By JJ Josh, a good looking lawyer, is in a dead-end relationship with his live-in boyfriend when he meets a beautiful young guy, Alex, at a cafe. Though Josh is taken by Alex almost immediately, Josh doesn’t admit it to himself until they’ve gone on their first date. Josh had never been one for fidelity, but when Alex holds back and doesn’t want sex, he finds he is in no way disappointed. Instead he is intrigued with himself for sticking around. Before Josh realizes what is happening, he is falling for Alex in a way he doesn’t understand. By the time he admits to himself that he’s in love with Alex, it is long past due for him to break up with his boyfriend. To complicate things, Alex has been abused in the past, and Josh promises never to hurt him. Though the situation goes downhill and gets quite ugly, there is a happy ending.I loved the beginning of this book, but when I found out Josh was a cheater, it made it difficult to like him. Even so, I kept the title in mind. This is about two men who are both imperfect in their own ways. They both have flaws, and the story seems like a practical reflection of life rather than a fairytale dream. Josh was never looking for a relationship, and wasn’t trying to cheat, but no one could have convinced him he would end up falling in love. Although Imperfect kept my attention with many surprises along the way, I was waiting for Josh to redeem himself. There was an opportunity for him to be Alex’s hero in the end, but he fails to take it and goes in the other direction instead. Despite my disappointment with Josh, I still was entertained and found the story enjoyable.Reviewed for Love Bytes

Never, ever forget that these creatures are the predators of our species. They’ll take the old, the adults, teenagers, children, infants. They do not discriminate. In one way or another, we are their sustenance. The vampire continues his immortality with human blood, the shape shifter requires our body, and the demon feeds on our soul. The abominations go on and on. This is what RYDER JAE LEE has been taught since she was surrendered by her Native American people, as a four-year-old child, to be taught the techniques and skills she would need to become a Shadow Hunter. Now, on the eve of her seventeenth birthday, Jae is setting out on the task of a lifetime: to revenge her sister’s murder by killing the vampire responsible, a gorgeous yet undeniably evil creature named CADEN. Hot on the trail of the Dead One, aided by a ghost dog, Jae is suddenly diverted from her task by a summons from the three Rangers who have been her life trainers: CODY LONEWOLF, MAX KIDD, and JOAQUIN LEE. A new twist in Jae’s life has suddenly come into play. Jae has been made the beneficiary of a large trust fund by a wealthy, but completely unrelated, socialite. Now, the woman’s blood relative, CAVANAUGH WINHELM CARRIGAN II, has asked the Rangers to arrange a meeting between him and Jae. What the Rangers do not realize is that Carrigan is just one of many personages, both living and undead, who wish desperately to see Jae’s demise.

As a fan of supernatural books, Shadow Hunter has just made it to the top of my list. I will be waiting, rather impatiently, for Gloria's next book. Would love to see Shadow Hunter be turned into a movie, or a series. A must read, even if you aren't a fan of the supernatural.

The story is action-packed, filled with mysticism, supernatural beings, nightmarish visions, Native American legends andbeliefs, and great characters. Gloria Esquerra has a way of hooking thereading from the beginning - a road trip where Ryder Jae Lee, the maincharacter, has to outwit two predators trolling a lonely interstate. Sheallows the reader to feel like a member of the story - an observer who isprivy to all the inner workings of the characters. Buy this book! You willnot be disappointed. The Princess and the Egg Shaped Diamond, by Chantay E. Brown

About the Author Emmy Nominated ® Daytime Television Producer, now author, CHANTAY E. BROWN, brings you a story where your children will laugh, sing, dance, learn a lesson, and most importantly, see a reflection of the two princesses within you. "The Princess and the Egg Shaped Diamond" was created from the images of my two nieces Malani and Ashlei. Throughout the years, I have noticed that out of all the books that were purchased for them as entertainment or educational purposes, there weren't many that reflected who they were as urban children. Being able to read a book about a princess and her journey, and take note that she resembles yourself is very important to that child and the community. I am overwhelmed that I was able to create a children's book about princesses of color, and pray that we all work together to get this book into the hands of all children and support diverse books. I thank you in advance for your support." #FOLLOWTHEEGG

UPDATED October 19th 2015 In the depths of space, several days travel from their home planet of Konar, the crew of the Illicit Jane mining ship haul in their latest asteroid laden with precious ore. None among them were prepared to discover a derelict spaceship attached to the asteroids surface and camouflaged against their ships scanners, left untouched for centuries. Inside the craft rests one hundred and nineteen corpses, suspended in cryogenic stasis long enough for their bodies to wither into husks. One man is found alive, barely more than a skeleton, with no memory of his past. This man is Ajax. His chance to live again will see the lives of the mining crew changed forever, not necessarily for the better, as he struggles to live in an alien world he has no knowledge of. The first in a series of books, Ajax: Rebirth tells the action packed story of Ajax's return to his former physical prowess through brutal underground fights, murderous missions, scenic tours of Konar City, and a staple diet of death and destruction.

By Amazon Customer This is a well written book by a new author, and a definite page-turner. I love the complexity of the relationship that develops between Ajax and IIya. There is a lot of action in this tale, and some raw ferocity but it’s all very necessary to tell such a complex story. This is a rather lengthy book, but it will keep you engaged. I will definitely be reading the next installment in this series!

Earth’s past and future are unintentionally and dangerously altered by time travelers from the twenty-fourth century in this masterful science fiction thriller from one of the genre’s best Chrononaut Franc Lu has come a long, long way—from the twenty-fourth century, in fact—to be in New Jersey on the evening of May 6, 1937. Traveling four hundred years into the past, he and his partner have been sent by the Chronospace Research Centre to observe the infamous explosion of the zeppelin Hindenburg. But when the German airship touches down safely on the airfield in Lakehurst, Lu realizes that something has gone terribly wrong—or rather, horribly right. His presence at the landing has set in motion an alternate historical timeline, and now everything will be different, though not necessarily in a good way. The consequences of Lu’s mistake could prove catastrophic for every living soul on Earth, now and forever, unless the past and the future are somehow repaired—and that is a burden destined to fall on the shoulders of visionary NASA scientist and wannabe science fiction author Dr. David Zachary Murphy.   An expansion of his Hugo Award–winning novella “ ‘. . . Where Angels Fear to Tread,’ ” Allen Steele’s Time Loves a Hero is at once thrilling, surprising, startling, and thoughtful—a mind-blowing masterwork of speculative fiction that radically reimagines time travel, alien contact, alternate history, and a host of other well-worn science fiction tropes.

Time Loves a Hero, by Allen Steele

Amazon.com Review Two-time Hugo-winner Allen Steele wraps his time-traveling novel Chronospace around a pair of pretty interesting ideas: that UFOs are terrestrial in origin, but simply traveling to us from a different time; and that science fiction--and speculative nonfiction--can play a potent, and often unexpected, role in scientific progress.

One of Steele's two Hugos went to a 1997 novella published in Asimov's, "...Where Angels Fear to Tread," and that piece makes up the middle chapters of Chronospace, the story of operatives from the 24th-century Chronospace Research Centre who sneak into Nazi Germany and onto the Hindenburg in hopes of witnessing its fiery end firsthand. The only problem is, the famous zeppelin lands safely on that early summer evening in 1937, and the time travelers have to figure out what went wrong. Because, as they soon learn, their actions might have (have had? will have?) devastating consequences for the entire human race.

Steele has made good use of his already engaging novella, fleshing out what happened before, during, and after the original work, especially concerning present-day NASA scientist David Murphy, who--funny, that--has just been called to task by his superiors for writing a piece in Analog entitled "How to Travel Through Time (And Not Get Caught)." With well-researched detail concerning the Hindenburg and convincingly fabricated logistics surrounding wormhole-powered time travel, Chronospace further proves Steele's mastery of intelligent, readable hard SF. --Paul Hughes

From Publishers Weekly Clearly written to please his fans and the editors of the science fiction magazines he frequently publishes in, this alternate-world novel by Steele (Oceanspace) panders (by excessive namedropping), without producing stellar results. In the 1998 of our world, David Zachary Murphy, a physicist with NASA who longs to be a professional writer of speculative fiction and see his name featured on SF magazine covers, writes a nonfiction article about the possibility that UFOs are time-travel machines. This story achieves every writer's dream it changes the future of the world. Especially the future for Franc and Lea, time travelers from the year 2314. When Franc and Lea go back to 1937 to observe the crash of the Hindenberg, their participation in the disaster somehow destroys their world and its time line. They are bounced into an alternate time line, in which Murphy and his postulations are a nexus. Franc and Lea's heavy-handed attempts to fix things (including impersonating one of Murphy's idols, real-life SF writer Gregory Benford) only make the situation worse. Meanwhile, mysterious "angels" are observing mankind, using their own extraterrestrial powers to try to stop the paradoxes caused by humanity's use of time travel before humans can infest the galaxy with their follies. Derivative and cloying, this isn't up to the level of Steele's short stories, which do grace the pages of many of the magazines he reverentially mentions throughout this novel.

Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information, Inc.

From Booklist Steele jumps from 1938 to 1998 to 2314 to a time when the moon is no more and the earth is a lifeless rock. Time, however, is mutable in ChronoSpace. In 2314, a group of historians has learned to create small wormholes and fly into the past, but recently they have sensed that they are being shadowed by "angels." Worried, they proceed with another mission, to document the 1938 explosion of the Hindenburg. Despite meticulous planning, they change the time line, and, worse, crash land in 1998. A daydreaming NASA functionary, David Murphy, deduces that they are time travelers and invents a time machine that, 300 years later, eventuates in the Hindenburg mission. Meanwhile, David journeys far into the future to caution his mentors, and they journey into the past to relay his warning to a younger version of himself. And then the angels make themselves known in this irresistibly suspenseful tale that occupies the territory between Robert Heinlein's sobering Farnham's Freehold (1964) and Philip K. Dick's certifiably insane Martian Timeslip (1964). John MortCopyright © American Library Association. All rights reserved

Credible time travel adventure By A Customer I generally avoid stories with the physical time travel concepts and altering the past, but on occasion, an author can make me forget my hang-ups about the concepts. As promised by a friend, Chronospace was intelligently written, and I was able to let go and become immersed in an interestingly hypothetical, suspenseful stage of events. The concept of "aliens" being from the future is not entirely new, but perhaps equally plausible to being from distant galaxies light years away. In my opinion, conceptually this novel's premise cannot be entirely dismissed, and therein lies part of the pleasure of getting lost in this story. As I did initially, don't let the time travel sci-fi keep you from reading this one. This was well handled here. This was actually my first Steele novel, but certainly won't be my last!

11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Satisfying read, but read every word By Jeffrey J. Lyons I am pleased to be the first one to review the new book of fellow New Englander Allen Steele. I enjoy time travel stories immensly, especially those that make sense. This is a magnificent experiment in taking two parallel time streams and crashing them together in a creative, intriguing way. Steele has essentially expanded upon his award-winning short story "Where Angels Fear To Tread" and given it a new beginning and a new ending. It's not often that I read a book that has a cameo appearance...in this case it's the well reknowned writer/scientist Gregory Benford. And fans of sci-fi magazines will like the many references to Analog Science Fiction/Fact magazine. But you MUST read this book from cover to cover to get all of your answers. I was reading along for the first 100 or so pages and enjoying the story that was building. Then suddenly the main character, David Zack Murphy, seems to develop all new characteristics. At first I was shouting "What the...?" But it was resolved in the end in a splendid fashion. "Chronospace" is gripping and tough to put down. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because Mr. Steele needs to scold his editor over a couple of missing words and at least one punctuation mistake. But if that's all I'm nit-picking about, that says a lot for the book and its story.

9 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Inadequate Potboiler By R. Albin This is an effort to write a time travel novel with causal paradoxes as a prominent part of the story. This book is an expansion of an award winning novella and the stretch marks are obvious. The quality of writing and characterization are pedestrian. Books like this can be saved by a clever plot and application of causal paradoxes but the paradoxes are predictable and the plot is marked by the sudden appearance of super powerful aliens defending the structure of space-time. This type of Deus ex Machina device is poor. The author has also a rather poor grasp of 20th century history. In this book, a key event is the destruction of the dirigible Hindenberg with the circumstances of that event influencing the survival of the Nazi regime. This is a laughable idea and a very shaky foundation for the generation of an alternative pattern of history.

From the Author I love writing futuristic romance about a man and woman finding each other across the vastness of galactic space, fantasy realms, and complex societies. In A Navigator's Tale: The Arcane Map of West, it was challenging fun for me to figure out how to coerce Captain West and Hanna to work together, despite their animosities, and to save civilization from lurking danger.D. Do you want your children to be actively serving in the local church when they turn thirty and beyond? Why The Stay can help! Much has been written about younger adults and their departure from church involvement. Concerned parents and church leaders want to know what has caused them to depart. Instead of asking why young adults are leaving the church, Parr and Crites conducted a national research project of those who grew up in church and are still serving faithfully. They studied why they have stayed and the results are compelling. You will learn as a parent, pastor, or church leader specific actions that you can take to make a definitive difference in whether or not the fifteenyearolds attending your church now are still attending and serving when they turn thirty.

You will discover: fifteen factors that make a great difference in the likelihood that children and teens will remain in church as adults ten issues that make somewhat of a difference in lifetime involvement five surprises that do not make as much difference as you might think the greatest gap discovered in the ministry focus of a church actions you can take as a parent that greatly increase the likelihood your children will remain faithful to church when they are adults strategies church leaders can implement that increase the probability that children and youthgroup members will serve in the church as adults

Why They Stay is much more than numbers and data. Parr and Crites share from their personal experiences, and the information can help you be more effective in your parenting and church leadership.

We have focused too long on why they leave - finally a resource we can use to help close to proverbial back door and with God's help - give them guidance to stay.

By Thomas Law As the church in the western world continues to decline hundreds, if not thousands, of research studies have been developed to analyze why “the next generation” is not staying in the church. This has caused church leaders around the country to implement programs in order to retain or re-engage these young people. In consulting with churches I have often told them that people want something toward which they can go, something which draws them rather than something from which they are “running”. The authors have done a masterful job of developing a research tool which focuses on those aspects of family and church life which have the possibility of retaining young people as activate contributing members of the church community into adulthood. Parr and Crites have identified fifteen areas that make a difference. Finally, we have something positive which we can do in order to help families, churches, and church leaders create an environment which may lead to more young people staying connected to the local congregation. Every parent and church leader should read this book, but more importantly they should focus their energy on helping these fifteen characteristics become a reality in the lives of young people in their charge. tomlaw.org/booksummaries
