I'm now starting to seek help and trying to find ways of dealing with it. By LJShuck Robin Caroll is one of my favorite authors that truly know how to tell a suspenseful novel that keeps one on the edge of their seat until the very end...and then the culprit is not who you thought. Torrents of Destruction is a fantastic ride down the Gauley River in West Virginia that took my breath away and kept me up late at night reading; I finished reading it in 2 days!Caroll's newest read is well written and worth the read. I loved the characters and the interaction between them was believable to the point I thought surely they were real...I'm still wondering what happens next! And the best part, there are 2 more books to the series to come, meaning the ride continues!

However, reading this book gave me great insight to this incredible sport. Robin crafted this book to allow me to feel like I was right there with the characters of this story. Believe me, when I say it was a thrill of a ride. These characters had to withstand not only the hazards of the river, but nasty weather from a hurricane, and a killer. If you are an adrenaline junkie, or just a huge fan of mystery and suspense with a sweet romance, then you need to get this awesome book.

It is a story that kept me guessing from the very beginning and finished with an ending I certainly didn't see coming. Robin had me feeling like I was on the wild white water rafting trip with the characters. It is a wonderful combination of action, suspense, romance and faith that I certainly recommend.

It's YA, with a great story, an awesome heroine, a perfectly transporting medieval setting, evil bad guys, the triumph of good over evil and finding love in the most unlikely place. . .it's got it all!Mariah, our heroine, is a princess, heir to a kingdom and bearing the weight of a prophecy proclaiming a grand destiny. After the tragic death of her brother and mother, she is quietly hidden in the arms of her Aunt, Uncle, and their daughter, Bridgett. Mariah becomes Rebecca, and embraces hiding who she is until she can become who she is meant to be.When Mariah/Rebecca turns eighteen years old, her birthday present is a locket containing the key to hiding her lineage and her part in the prophecy. It also brings along an adventure that ends up with her and Bridgett kidnapped and placed into the hands of the man she's been hiding from for years. Brown’s well-written Caribbean adventure and his focus on underwater scenes are fascinating as he takes us into a world of treasure hunters, Russian commandos, luxury yachts and their varied crews and passengers. Well-drawn characters and technical debacles help us understand the operation of both surface ships and submarines.The main character has a paranormal talent for finding lost shipwrecks. In the Bahamas, at the edge of the Bermuda Triangle, Kyle Dawton leads his fellow salvage drivers on a hunt that promises to be a discovery of high archeological and monetary value. But on the way, they incur a sinking seabed, human traffickers, and a prowling Russian sub missioned to retrieve a defected scientist. Through it all, Dawton struggles with his fear of becoming lost to that other-worldly realm that leads him to the wreck.Near the wrecksite is a wellhead owned by a rich Texas oilman and owner of a new megayacht on a maiden voyage with social and political friends. J.J. Harwood has been uninformed about the shady oil exploration that’s been conducted by a P in his own company. Harwood’s crew is also unprepared for the ruthless Haitian pirates who board his yacht, overcome passengers and crew and, in addition to the Russian commandos, threaten the salvors’ work to save their sunken wreck.Readers will enjoy this story of lost treasure and the dangers and threats endured to save it. By suzi badrena I am impressed by this up and coming writer, Jerry Earl Brown. There really aren't very many adventure-storytellers that really capture their audience and hold them on a roller coaster ride from beginning to end. "Bedeviled Sea" is a creative, wild collision of several different plots and characters that all connect with excitement and humor as well. I enjoyed the characters who doesn't love a great buried treasure story! I give it a thumbs up!

While reading the book, 60 Minutes had an interview with Robert Ballard called The Unknown America and it provided amazing visual to what I was reading. I was impressed at how on target Jerry's story is with the reality of the sea. Interesting read!

Super relevant discussion wrapped in a lovely story By kedar yehoshua This might be a children's book, but that doesn't stop it from being super relevant and acute to the current discussion we are all, or at least should be, having with ourselves and our culture about technology and values, about the human experience, about choice and consciousness. Having said so, it is no less than charming, beautifully illustrated and enchanting. Complex topics should definitely be part of education and of the conversation we have with our children, and indeed - complexity doesn't have to mean no fun. I enjoyed this book in so many levels, I support it and recommend it with all my heart.

An emerging potentially top author By James Coyle As a full time author I relax by reading top fiction by the likes of Forsythe, Wilbur Smith, Patrick Robinson and others. I am always searching for emerging authors of comparable quality. I have been following George Wier for a while and consider he has the potential for reaching the very top. As he fine-tunes his writing technique his books are getting better and better. His previous book "Last Call" was excellent and this new one is even better. I wouldn't be surprised if these weren't turned into movies in the near future as his story-line tends to lend itself to that media.This book is set around an old military aircraft crash which unleashes a nasty virus type compound. A group of friends plus his headstrong daughter finally get to the bottom of it. It is set around Caddo Lake which was used in a number of movies including "Soggy Bottom USA" and "Southern Comfort."

A quirky combination of financial advisor/family man turned detective with a bit of si-fi thrown in with twists and turns that make the bad guys good and good guys bad. Keeps you wondering right up to the end. Worth the money for entertaining reading.

The depiction of the terrorist from his point of view was chilling, really made me think, his concept's are so different from the American point-of-view! Mr. Johnson's own past experiences on the sea really shines through when his characters are at sea. The last little twist at the end of the story, leaves the viewer wondering.....would definitely read another book from this author.

I sat down to read and read almost cover to cover in one sitting. It was that good.I will admit up front, I think everything Laura Story does is "so cool", and read the book mostly because she wrote it. I wanted the subject matter, but I would read a cereal box if Laura had a quote on it. ;-)But this isn't just me with my "hero worship" glasses I am tempted to wear. This book is REALLY good! And, I think a big reason is because we ALL have brokenness. We all have things we wish God would "just fix". We all have things that would be easier to not share or be vulnerable about. And Laura is really honest and open about that. She shares her personal story in a really raw, open, honest, and sometimes hilarious way. ;-) but interwoven throughout her story is universal truth. Not platitude. Not "Christianese", but for real for everyone truth. Almost every chapter ends with a Myth vs. Truth. And almost every single myth she lists is a lie that my heart so wants to tell me is true. Myths like (this is me paraphrasing cause she says it better) "When everything is healed then I can be used by God", "He is punishing me and that's why everything is broken.", "when everything is healed then I can be happy"- and she combats them truths like "God can use my story in the redemption of the nations", "He isn't punishing me, He loves me, and in His love and mercy He is going to use my story to bring hope to other hurting people." "Joy is deeper than just when it "feels better"" I could go on and on, but don't want to just regurgitate what she said - I want people to read it for themselves and hear His love and power and grace just washing over them.I can think of something in every person that I loves life and story that needs healing and repair and redemption. And I think everyone would hear His voice saying "I love you - here is my hope to you" through her words.

By Kelly Because of my life circumstances at the present, where it truly feels as though I have been praying and praying for some things to be resolved and healed, but they are taking much longer than I had ever imagined, this book caught my attention. I'm really not much of a reader (unless it's the Bible, my devotionals, or nursing school textbooks), but I got the book (I believe it was a God-thing.) I read through it within a few short days. I didn't want to put it down. Laura is so very down to earth, so honest, and so open. There were places throughout the book where tears were streaming down my face. It felt so good to hear her story and how she (and her family) have gotten through it. I also loved hearing the background to how some of her songs came about, and I learned so much about her that I never knew! It helped convince and confirm for me that regardless of our life circumstances, we are where God wants us to be, and HE HAS HIS HAND IN IT. Whatever it is! And, I love her reference to not being able to put a bow on it....my life is not where you can wrap it all up and put a bow on it. It was like reading a special friend's precious diary. I recommend this book (and have!) ~ it is truly a blessing and proves how God is with us through anything and everything.

By Amazon Customer God has a way of reaching out to His children to bring encouragement, correction, and revelation of His great love when we need it the most. This book delivered all of these plus so much more. Though the author's story and testimony are completely different than my own, she writes on a heart level that is so relatable. She addresses hurt, anger, pain, bitterness, and questioning just to name a few. I shed many tears reading this book because it was ministering so deeply to my pain. One of my biggest takeaways was instead of asking "God, why?", ask God "how?" How will you work this out? How will this situation strengthen my walk with You? How will You use this to bring glory to Your name?I also want to add that this is the first Christian "help" book I was able to read start to finish without getting annoyed with the content or irrelevance. She shares some great truths from scripture as well as offering different perspectives. Please, if you are hurting and looking for encouragement, this book is a helpful instrument to offer healing.

I bought Kinnara after listening to a delightful interview with the author Kevin Ansbro on BBC radio about why he wrote the book. Who would not be intrigued by an author who mixed genres of romance, thriller, and mythology, and then injected a bit of humor to contrast with the suspense and pathos?Ansbro is a superb writer with masterful storytelling skills. He intertwined three storylines creating characters that were charismatic and empathetic. I was immediately pulled into their stories and dilemmas. The narrative felt real even when it touched on the magical; disbelief was suspended and I felt anything was possible. Even the emotions of a mythological creature felt real.With lush prose and perfect pacing Ansbro pulled me into the stories of young love, the agonies of loss and bereavement, and yearnings of the heart. I felt the emotions and perspectives of the characters, whether Sawat, a poor Thai boy; or Calum and Hannah, young British lovers. I even listened with dread to the inner musings of a deviant mind with murder in his heart.Ansbro used the right amount of humor and introduced peripheral characters that fleshed out the stories and lives of the main protagonists. His sensual prose was so evocative I could feel, smell, see, and hear each scene, especially those set in exotic Phuket Thailand by the Andaman Sea, whether at the gorgeous seaside resort or in the stinking squalor of the tenements where Sawat lived.Ansbro writes fondly of Thai culture, the humility and hospitality, the inner calm. I was as charmed by their gentle culture as he, and could feel the beauty of the people. A major theme is mirrored in the young lover, Calum, and the mythological creature, Kinnara—their awakening to an understanding that impulsive actions spurred by anger could have far reaching and devastating consequences. Another theme, even with the peripheral characters, was the healing nature of love between lovers and friends. Evil existed, but with repentance and right action redemption was possible.I loved Ansbro’s Acknowledgements, which had a beautiful expression of love for his wife. It is easy to see the inspiration for the love story in Kinnara.This was a beautiful book and a wonderful read. I truly did not want it to end and would love to delve back into its world following the characters into the next chapters of their lives. It would make a wonderful film. I look forward to more from author Kevin Ansbro.

This is story-telling at its apogee, in its best form, with all the enduring, classical elements expected from a modern fairy tale, rooted in the real. Emotional highs and lows and, yes, a ‘moral of the story’. A really good one.Much to ponder about our shared humanity, as told through the fates of Calum, a young Englishman, Sawat, his upbeat, self-less friend in Thailand, and Klahan Kinnara, a mythical half-human, half-bird creature banished thousands of years ago to a solitary existence beneath the sea for his transgression.In Klahan resides the universal human character. Can’t we all relate to feeling sunk under our own past mistakes? We all make them and beat ourselves up over them, isolating ourselves, and long for human touch to make everything all right. Just as Calum will long for Hannah, the love of his life.In Thailand, Calum learns about the existence of Klahan from his friend Sawat. “Sawat, I want to go into the water…” Life lesson: be careful what you wish for! Or be willing to pay the price.Calum dives into the sea, sees Klahan, but does not reach out to the lonely Kinnara, who, in the misery of his banishment, “pleaded with the human to remain … thunderbolts of desperation started to shoot through his chest.” …. “Oh, please, human, acknowledge me! Know me, help me!” The universal human cry!! And when Calum turns his back, Klahan is left in “soul-crushing anguish”.How distinctly human! The primary human drive, after all, is our need to connect. But very often, our own actions damage the connections we crave, those bonds that hold us together. (When our focus is solely on … I want….??)How to mend the damage? How are severed connections repaired? Like a severed spine, it takes a miracle, but fortunately we have the miracle of forgiveness, which rests on taking responsibility and self-sacrifice, which Calum intimately learns.I love Kevin Ansbro’s style of writing - effortless to read, but so incredibly descriptive, in both setting and character. This book was a joy to read. And a knock-your-socks-off, surprise ending!! Fabulously done! Highly recommended.

I would definitely recommend Steve's audibal books to friends and family. His words were clear, descriptive and held emotion. It was almost like I was watching a movie in my mind through my ears lol Great job and cant wait to hear some more from this guy!

By A Customer In classic "Sproulian" style, this book probes the subject matter of Christ's Olivet Discourse. Are the events that our Lord describes to be understood as taking place in the distant future (even beyond 1999!) or are they to be understood as events that would take place in connection with Jerusalem's destruction in AD 70? While the former option seems more sensational, more exciting, Sproul methodically shows the reader that an honest read of Christ's words will inevitably lead to the latter conclusion. His discussion of the time frame references ("this generation") is excellent. Did Jesus mean what he said when he promised that the catastrophic events he described would be experienced by many of his orignal hearers? Sproul sees this as an essential question to be answered if we wish to defend the integrity and veracity of our Lord's words. As a pastor, I hope that other Christian teachers and leaders will read this book and be shaken from so much of the dogmatism that surrounds eschatology today. Even if one is not fully convinced by Sproul's argument, he should at least be convinced that maybe there are more options than the "Lahaye-I'm premil,pretrib and you must be too" approach that is so pervasive today! How refreshing to learn that godly men down through the ages have held differing views about the "last days." RC has done a great service for the church!

Although not a definitive answer, it is a definite response By preacher@link2000.net Pastor John Stephen Brown As a Pastor of the Eternal Grace Baptist Church, it is quite refreshing to read a book in our time, when sensationalism seems to sell, like "The Last Days According To Jesus" that offers a biblical perspective rather than the rehashed blind fanciful predictions of "Prophets for Profit." This is not a definitive answer to the swirling controversy regarding Christ's return, but it is a definite response from a "Mainline theologian" sure to stimulate the earnest believer to diligently search the Scriptures. What Sproul does is exposes the major flaws of various commentators in their defense of the preterist or futurist position, while buttressing the validity of preterism. By raising the questions that naturally surface when the preterist view is held, Sproul enables honest seekers to examine the evidence in an atmosphere conducive to sane, consistent, Biblical meditation. It has been stated that a stimulating book must have a catchy title, an intriguing cover, and provocative content. "The Last Days According To Jesus" manages to achieve all three beginning with the provocative title. Upon the cover centrally located in the top of the book is the famous clock nearing the twelfth hour. Concerning the content, Mr. Sproul is perfectly correct when he asserts that part of the problem regarding prophecy is "the confession concerning biblical interpretation stems from contemporary usage of the term literal. ... " (p. 65). Lazy literalist miss the time frame references and thereby promote views from texts out of context which become a pretext, thus opening the flood gates for bizarre beliefs unattached to contextual Scriptural truth. Sproul subtly raises and answers the objections sure to surface by futurists. Although it is primarily a book length review of the preterist position as presented by J. Struart Russell in his work, "The Parousia" and its shortcomings, nonetheless it serves the astute Christian student well in clearly stating the biblical position. Sproul's treatment is very charitable, to say he least, with those holding positions clearly questionable. It is federal reserve notes (commonly thought to be money) well spent.

19 of 21 people found the following review helpful. A ground breaking book for making sense out of difficult Bible eschatology By Daniel C. Markel Early on in this book, R.C. Sproul astutely observes that the recorded accounts of Jesus' discourse on the Mount of Olives in the three synoptic gospels can be the most persuasive proof of divinely-inspired fulfilled prophesy due to the amazingly accurate account of the destruction of Jerusalem. Yet at the same time, due to a passage in the Matthew account that alludes to Jesus physically appearing when these events occur, this Discourse opens up plenty of skepticism from unbelieving critics.Unlike the dozen or so R. C. Sproul Sr. books that I've read, this book presents itself more as a research paper that points to observations by plenty of external sources rather than a lone commentary by Sproul himself. To his credit, he's not intolerably dogmatic nor takes a hard line about issues open to interpretation, except for ones that clearly conflict with creeds or scripture.To give the best overview, Sproul writes the following in the final conclusion of the book:"The purpose of The Last Days according to Jesus has been to examine and evaluate the various claims of preterism, both full and partial. The great service preterism performs is to focus attention on two major issues. The first is the time-frame references of the New Testament regarding eschatological prophecy. The preterist is a sentinel standing guard against frivolous and superficial attempts to downplay or explain away the force of these references.The second major issue is the destruction of Jerusalem. This event certainly spelled the end of a crucial redemptive-historical epoch. It must be viewed as the end of some age. It also represents a significant visitation of the Lord in judgment and a vitally important "day of the Lord." Whether this was the only day of the Lord about which Scripture speaks remains a major point of controversy among preterists.The great weakness of full preterism--and what I regard to be its fatal flaw--is its treatment of the final resurrection. If full preterism is to gain wide credibility in our time, it must overcome this obstacle.With respect to partial preterism, Kenneth L. Gentry Jr. has done excellent work in forcing reconsideration of the date when the Book of Revelation was written. If he is correct in arguing for a date prior to A.D. 70, then sweeping revisions must be made in our understanding of this book's content and focus.Debates over eschatology will probably continue until the Lord returns and we have the advantage of hindsight rather than the disadvantage of foresight. The divisions that exist within the Christian community are understandable, considering that both the subject matter and the literary genre of future prophecy are exceedingly difficult. This does not mean that we may push the Bible aside or neglect its eschatological sections. On the contrary the interpretative difficulties presented by eschatological matters simply call us to a greater diligence and persistence in seeking their solution."The book doesn't address the entire Olivet Discourse verse by verse, but tackles the most difficult passages such as Matthew 24:34 where Jesus says, "Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place" and the possible meaning of "the end of the age". For me on a personal level, this book revealed several fascinating insights to logical explanations of prophesies such as the appearance of heavenly apparitions during the destruction of Jerusalem (miraculous signs in the skies above such as "chariots of fire" as reported by historian Josephus), and the meaning of the Beast and the appearant meaning behind "666" in the Book of Revelation. For those fascinating insights alone is why I would strongly recommend this book. The other great feature of this book are the tables that show the main differences between the different types of preterism and the side by side passages of Matthew, Mark and Luke regarding the Olivet Discourse. It's far from comprehensive for eschatological studies of the Bible but it's definitely a great place to start.
