2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great Gift for the Man in Your Life By Upstate New York Reader A well-done devotional Bible addressing the thing men struggle with. The devotions are both Biblically sound and applicable to the lives of men living in 21st century America.Devotions are of two kinds. Two-Hundred-Sixty (one for each weekday of the year) of them are topical devotions. Each focuses on a “key verse” that is then developed within the devotion. Inside each devotion is a one-sentence summarizing its content. Finally, each devotion ends with a boxed “Bring It To Life” - a sentence or two suggesting how the reader can apply that day’s reading.In additions to the devotions are 52 (one per week) myths that many in the church have swallowed without much thought - for example Myth #30 is “Just use credit now, and pay for it later.” After stating the myth, the problem and a suggested correction are given within two or three paragraphs.I like the fact that the sources of all Devotionals and Myths are documented in an index following the Biblical text. There is also a topical index which allows the reader to find appropriate material whatever the reader’s interest. Though absent, this reader would have liked to see the Devotionals and Myths listed in order as part of the table of contents. This would allow the potential purchaser to quickly see the topics discussed within the various pieces of commentary without thumbing through the whole Bible to see all 310 entries.The NIV text is presented in clear type. It includes no footnotes (other than those belonging to the NIV text proper) or cross-references. Perhaps an enlarged 2nd edition could include these features to add additional value to the book for the male reader.This Bible would serve as a wonderful gift for the new believer or a devotional Bible for a believer of any age. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Understated design and a good translation in the NIV. The "fresh insights" actually seem a little stale. By Marshall Carter This Fresh Insights NIV Bible for Men is nice enough, and would likely make a good gift for a Christian man. This hardcover edition is sturdy and should stand up to the rigors of regular use, and the design is understated, which I like. It doesn't scream out "LOOK HOW MANLY I AM," but neither do men who are quietly confident in who they are. You might almost expect a Bible for Men to come in real camo or something, but I'm glad that's not the case.I've always been partial to the NIV translation as far as reading comprehension goes. I don't have any issues with the good old King James, but you won't need your Vine's or Bible thesaurus with this one. The language is straightforward and concise, and for the most part, it's easier to read for more people than any other direct translation out there. Some may feel that that "waters down" some of the language, but I'm not really one of them. I'd rather understand things fully, without being sidetracked by words that seem out of context (or missing) in today's vernacular. Ultimately, it's just a preference.As for the "Fresh Insights," I couldn't help but feel that they were anything but. Ecclesiastes says that there is nothing new under the sun, and that certainly seems to be the case here. It basically offers "modern myths" that we often hear or that are status quo in today's society, then contrasts it with what God's Word has to say about it. The idea is novel, and the wisdom offered is solid, but I couldn't help but feel like I'd read these before countless times. These consist of topics dealing with marriage, sex, pornography, money, selfishness, things that men typically have to deal with sooner or later. There's nothing wrong with these sections, and there's nothing really wrong with what's being offered, but it doesn't really feel fresh either. That's not a huge deal, but I don't see all that many guys reading through these and really feeling like this has awakened some kind of new spiritual growth or understanding. Sometimes, something just is what it is...Ultimately, this is a Bible, and it's for men. It succeeds on this and will serve that purpose. It would probably make a better gift for a younger man, or a new Christian, as a lot of the "Fresh Insights" are going to come across as pretty old hat to anyone who's sat (or fallen asleep) in a pew regularly.

Many of them are serious and candid.Topics include (randomly) "The answers are within you," "Life will be great once I get married," "Internet pornography is harmless," "You must chase your dream," "My time is my own. I can indulge myself" etc.... These are very focused on common things men tend to struggle with. The solutions are Bible focused and they often have practical tools.It also includes various topics for reading, such as "bold prayers," "characters," "distractions," "future," "money," "image" and more.One good thing is that the various readings are on the same paper as the Bible is printed on and they are not in some strong color. So reading through, the pages will stay open and there is nothing to distract reading the text.
