Many generations ago, a spacecraft filled with evacuees fled from what used to be planet earth. En-route to their new home they were forced to crash land on a desolate desert planet. Immediately after landing they were attacked by an unknown beast in a misty dusty cloud. It is only by continually moving that they were able to survive. A large machine The Traveler was constructed from the remnants of their crashed spacecraft. It is in a constant state of reconstruction and addition, as it can never stop moving. When they do stop it is only long enough to pick up raw materials. The machine, several stories tall and several blocks wide became their only home. Many have lost their lives to build The Traveler and after forty years the population has grown to over 4000 people. Now unseen dangers await them at every turn and not all of them are on the planet.

By Lisa Lowell Tilman's The Traveler is a suspenseful science-fiction novel that is full of surprises and gets into the action right away. I sat down to read the first chapter and ended up finishing the first half of the book. The setting of the story is on a city-sized ship that travels in space as its population struggles to maintain the necessities of human survival away from earth. The author takes on the technological elements of this futuristic setting in a competent and believable way rather than leaving open too many distracting loose ends. The reader can effortlessly envision the complex world of the book's adventurous, persevering, and hopeful protagonist, and within a matter of moments, is along for the ride. This book is a fun and enjoyable read and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys diving into a fast-paced, dystopian world on a lazy afternoon.

I have many books on witchcraft and none even come close to this. This has a history, and many introductions into witchcraft and the things that are talked about in the book. It talks about stones and crystals and herbs and flowers and anything you would use for a spell! It has detailed descriptions on how and when to cast spells and omg I cant even explain how great this book is. I haven't been doing any spells lately and now I have so many new ones to try. It has spells for everything a white witch would need. Some you may have already done before but trust me this book is full of new things! Lots of yummy recipes also. I am so ready to try the relationship rescue pie, its a yummy apple pie that brings more love to relationships and its so clever and simple. So cute I can't stop talking about it. You HAVE to get this book. Amazing for beginning witches and also experienced ones. You will all love it trust me!!!

It is not often that an author follows through with a novel that is better that the debut, but Justin Dillon-Shallard has done just that.Where DEiFIED was more of a fantasy, Technopath is more thrilling. It is fast paced and high tech, but without boring a person with trivia. Many of the old characters return — in some form, but they are different. The time span between the two novels has matured them and it’s great to see fictitious characters grow.‘Patriot’ is a new character and what a dark horse. The author has a way of articulating each character’s thoughts in a distinct manner. Do not be put off by the alternating chapters of first and third person narration. It is seamless and I only realised it after I was well into the book.The writing is elegant without being stuffy, and it just flows well. You may end up reading just another chapter, or two, or three, and not getting any sleep. You have been warned.Who will love this book? Anyone who has a penchant for Telekinesis, Science Fiction, and High-Tech genres. This is a great story with believable technology that could very well be commonplace in the very near future.If you enjoyed the first book DEiFIED (GODS Book 1), you will definitely want to pick up a copy of Technopath. I cannot wait to read the next one. Justin Dillon-Shallard is a great new Sci-Fi/Thriller author to watch closely.

I read this series-opening short selection as soon as I received it, and with great interest. Fans of space opera a la Heinlein or Roddenberry should find a lot to love in here. Schaffer's writing is polished, confident, pleasingly jaunty, detailed and thorough. Well done! Note that as part one of Return Fire, it is not a complete story, and you will want to go on to read Part 2 immediately. There's a parts 1-3 volume which is a good deal.

Heikes Read this as part of the compilation and was very glad I'd picked up all three. Knew this was a serial approach going in, so the short nature of the offering wasn't a problem. In fact, it really served to focus the story and keep it moving right along - no wandering around with extraneous details, just a direct and to the point story, well formed and well told. Even though I'm not a trekkie, I thoroughly enjoyed this and ended up plowing through all 3 stories in a single sitting. Star Fleet storytelling at its finest. Keep them coming!

By Kindle Customer So I had just finished writing a review about the lack of a higher " purpose " in some of the shoot them up sci fi so popular lately and then I read this short gripping story. Granted it has blatant echoes of the Star Trek universe and the Borg but when someone picks up the guttering torch and holds it high like this who cares!

16 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Editing So Poor, It's Virtually Unreadable. By Alan Arthur Katz I hate giving bad reviews. Really. Normally, if a book is just plain bad, I don't bother reviewing it because that just gives it more attention than it deserves.But I occasionally will review a book that's poorly written if I believe the author has some talent and both she, and her readers, need to be made aware of her issues so that maybe, she will improve and grow and become an author I adore. That has happened more than once. The first books of N. R. Walker struck me as being pretty much amateur fan fiction. It turned out that's exactly what they were, fan fiction that got published. However, over the course of just a year-or-so, N. R. Walker developed into one of the finest authors of gay fiction writing today. I would never have guessed it had I only read the first couple of books, but her later books and series ("Red Dirt Heart" and "Cronin's Key") are among the finest fiction, of any genre, I've ever read.Hence, I''m willing to take the time to seriously consider this other Walker's (Aimee Nicole Walker - no relation, as far as I know) book, Chasing Mr. Wright. Beneath the surface I see the glimmer of talent trying to break through. Some paragraphs, even whole sections, display hints of elegance and promise, and I hope that, with an appropriate editor and guidance, Ms. Walker will shine through and show us her potential, fulfilled.First of all, in the interest of full disclosure, let me state that I was unable to finish reading Chasing Mr. Wright. About half way through this long tome, I gave up and skimmed to the end. I had to stop for one reason - the editing was nothing less than abhorrent. To me, the book was unreadable. I was so mired in all the Middle School spelling errors, grammar errors, and word-misuse, that I just couldn't keep my head in the story anymore. And that's a terrible shame because, although it was overlong, derivative and rarely credible, I was hooked by the story and saw possibilities for the characters, despite their stupid 12-year-old-girl behavior. I saw a glimmer of something interesting in Ms. Walker's intentions, an outline for a really good tale, characters who were almost charismatic and empathetic and situations with great potential (such as the MC's "Gram" being a famous gay romance author - but where else have I read that meme before?).There are days when I wonder if half the authors of gay fiction (or just self-published authors of gay fiction) don't bother editing at all, or share the same incompetent editor, because they all seem to make the identical errors: "you're" for "your", apostrophes in plurals (never, never, never!), bad hyphenation ("button down shirt" wrong. "button-down shirt" right.) Authors misspell their own characters' names (in this book, "Ava" seems to morph to "Ave" and back again, sometimes in the same sentence). Almost every self-published author uses this phrase wrong: "It didn't phase him", which should be "it didn't faze him". But one of my favorites from this book is when the MC is asked to design a birthday cake for an old lady's anniversary. Hey, Ms. Walker, if the cake is for a 50th anniversary, it's an anniversary cake, not a birthday cake.This book was rife with disturbing, near-illiterate writing, such as "I listened aptly..." instead of "I listened raptly", and (arrrgggghhh) "I could have went straight home" instead of "gone straight home". That's the kind of mistake that makes the speaker sound completely illiterate. And, speaking of education, her MC, who is a graphic artist who designs logos, etc. has just gotten his MBA degree? Why would an artist get an advanced business degree - planning to be a stock trader while painting in his atelier? The graduate degree a graphic artist would get would be an MFA (Master of Fine Arts), not MBA (Master of Business Administration). What is this, Donald Trump with a paintbrush?Of course, none of that is much worse than the MC exclaiming "I smiled at the site before me". I'm sure Ms. Walker was not writing about a construction project, she just used "site" where she should have used "sight". One of the most annoying tics of this manuscript (it is certainly not a completed book) was the author's tendency to insert the letter "a" before days of the week, such as "I'll be returning at the end of the week on a Friday", or "When a Monday came...". What is with that? I can't even imagine the logic of that particular oft-repeated construction.The examples I gave are just a handful among hundreds in Chasing Mr. Wright. Look, I know that quite a few brilliant authors are not great at spelling and basic grammar, which is why they use editors. What baffles me is how few independent authors even bother to use spell check, let alone hire an editor. Spelling and grammar checkers can't find everything, but they can find perhaps 70% of the issues. The rest is why you have an editor, an actual human being who can read, spell and correct. If Ms. Walker used an editor, he or she should probably be shot. I got through approximately 100 pages of this embarrassing writing and just couldn't continue on. I felt too bad for the author.Let's be honest, if this were any Amazon product other than a book, it would be returned with loud complaints and a demand for a refund. Yes, you got quite a number of five-star reviews (though honestly, I can't figure out how that was possible), but a nearly equal number of 1- and 2-star reviews, each and every one of which complained about the execrable editing. You owe it to yourself, your talent and your readers to publish your best work, or at very least a finished work.A book is not finished until it is edited - and more than once. I'm not returning this book for a refund, because I got it free on Kindle Unlimited, but if I had paid, I'd be returning it now.Re-edit, polish and re-publish the book - I'll look forward to reading it again, from the top.Alan reviews gay fiction for the Sinfully Addicted... blog.

This was a No Go for me By HaloLove The story started off truly well but the further I read the more it fell apart for me.-sigh- Bad editing, cringe worthy dialogue, ridiculous misunderstandings, everyone was either stunning, handsome, beautiful or gorgeous and it's stated non-stop, and there was way too much sex to define a romantic relationship for two people who desperately were looking for a love they could trust and spend their life with.What made the story worse:"Her cheeks were flushed pink, giving her that healthy glow that only fair skinned women get." -roll my eyes-I've seen plenty of non fair women that have that exact glow!-----------"I told him that I did not believe that a bisexual man would ever be completely happy with one sex or the other." Beautiful Calvinism By David Murray What do you get when you combine Gretchen Ruben's Happiness Project with the Five Points of Calvinism and Tony Reinke's compelling writing?You're looking at it.It sounds like a weird and unworkable combination, but it works well and results in an outstandingly beautiful presentation of the doctrines of grace.Tony is careful to clarify early on that this is not a Christianized version of The Happiness Project. This is not book of practical theology, but of pure theology. It's not a book centered on you, but on God. It's not a book about what you can do to make yourself happier (though there is a place for that). It's a book about what God has done to make you happier. It's not DIY-happiness, but GDI-happiness. (You work it out!)It uses the hook of the universal human pursuit of happiness to draw the reader in, only to dash these doomed hopes of happiness to dust, and then rebuild them on solid durable biblical foundations.Its five main chapters are built around the five points of Calvinism. But it's not your usual over-systematized presentation of the doctrines of grace that, while theologically correct, kills the beauty of grace and bores the reader to tears. By using the overarching theme of The Joy Project, Tony manages to join accuracy with attractiveness, and correct theology with compelling theology.If you've ever wanted a book to help introduce someone to the doctrines of grace, not just the truth of them but the beauty of them, this book is perfect in size, content, and style. I'll be getting a supply of them to give away.If you want to persuade Arminian friends, this won't beat them over the head with naked logic, but will so whet their appetites that they surely cannot but desire to feast upon these truths. Happiness is not the absence of difficulties By Benjamin Vrbicek Yesterday I rode my bike past a church sign that said, Happiness is not the absence of difficulties, but the presence of God.Typically, church signs are nothing more than clichés and sentimentality. Blah. But this one is pretty good. Yet we must ask, “If happiness comes from God’s presence, how do we get God’s presence?”Tony Reinke wrote The Joy Project: A True Story of Inescapable Happiness to answer this question. The book was released earlier this week, and you can download the book free of charge, in three digital formats, at desiringGod.org/thejoyproject.The book explores—no, celebrates!—God’s mission to bring his children infinite joy. And it does so through the theological framework called Calvinism or the doctrines of grace or the acronym TULIP (total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and perseverance of the saints). This may be the most robustly practical and simultaneously beautiful application of TULIP I have ever read. It's short, it's simple, and it makes sense to someone who has no formal theological training. It made me weep in its beauty. It's a book I'll go back to over and over again, and recommend to all my believing and non-believing friends. Thank you.

Myers, Jr. Perry Stone, like many current TV evangelical preachers, are attempting to awaken the sleeping church to the dangerous rise of the Islamic threat to the world, in particular the United States. He unerringly points out the methods being employed by Islamic leaders and spokesmen to overthrow and eventually subjugate nations and peoples who are willfully ignorant of their satanic devices and strategies.After spending the first portion of his book on a review of prior kingdoms that have impacted world history, Perry Stone concentrates the major remaining section on a study of Islamic thinking and aspirations, namely, propaganda, infiltration, intimidation, killings, and world domination. Additionally, he specifically enumerates the approaches now being taken to implement the Islamic master plan. Establishing mosques in every major city, establishing full-time Islamic schools to raise leaders, making criticism against Islam a hate crime, buying out media outlets, papers, and companies, making inroads into the black communities(often more accepting of Islam), Engaging in debates to legitimize Islam's equality to Christianity and Judaism, holding America hostage with high oil prices, and encouraging Islamic families to further reproduce in order to gain numerical superiority are but a few of the techniques presently being utilized or will be fully exploited in the future.Perry Stone concludes his work with a chapter on what individuals can do to prepare for what lies ahead. I was intrigued by the title and subject matter as I'd read several of Ann's previous books. I quickly devoured it and took notes. Ann is such an amazing writer. She writes each story with descriptive details and background information. It's obvious to me that much research has gone into the writing of this book."Wicked Women of the Bible" is a book of stories. Twenty women with names like Delilah and Rahab are brought to life for today's readers. Although Ann uses fictional techniques, she stays close to the Biblical text. Not all of the women whose stories are told are terribly wicked. Some are considered 'wicked good' and 'wicked smart'. Women like Abigail and Esther are included.The book is arranged with twenty stories. At the end of each story is a short section entitled "The Times". It provides additional information including the approximate dates and where the story can be found in the Bible. I learned much about the worldview of the people in the story at that time and some of the common customs.Something I really found helpful was "The Takeaway". This section concluded each chapter. Four questions were posed to the reader. It caused me to consider how I might react if I was the woman in the story. Ann also posed questions for readers to consider about temptations and situations they might be dealing with that are similar.The book held my attention. I am amazed how the Bible shares details of flawed people and doesn't gloss over them. It gives me confidence that God can even use me for His purposes despite my own flaws. I also came away from the book with a greater understanding of how God can use our seemingly everyday stories for His greater purposes and good. I would recommend this book!

By Catherine Daugherty Ann Spangler is an award-winning writer and the author of many bestselling books. After using her book Praying The Names of God for a leadership study in Community Bible Study last year, I am thrilled with the opportunity to read Wicked Women of the BIBLE and take part in the launch of the book. However, as I read down through the chapter list of the 20 women of the BIBLE she chose to write about I immediately got defensive thinking about some of my own heroines. How could she possibly associate the word wicked with the likes of Deborah, Ruth, Abigail and one of my favorites, Esther?Luckily for me it wasn’t too far into this anointed page-turner that I found these definitions:WICKED: 1. Morally very bad. EVIL. 2. A Fierce, Vicious …She continues on with the Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary with the rest of the well-known definition.BUT then, from The Online Slang Dictionary she includes:WICKED: very, very good, excellent, extremely, in a grand way; “cool”; “awesome”. As in that concert was wicked!Author Ann Spangler uses these two definitions to creatively weave details into the stories of 20 women of the BIBLE to give us a better understanding of these women and the lives they lived. Under her pen the story of each woman from ancient times comes alive as they mirror the stories and lives of women today. Wicked lies, wicked disguise, wicked girlfriend, to a wicked predicament, each life story has a lesson for women and men of our times.At the end of each woman’s story, Ann provides a historical account of the times surrounding that woman’s life. Following this historical information each chapter concludes with what Ann calls The Takeaway. It has become popular for authors today to write books such as this one in a way designed for a small group study. This is where she has included more information in the form of questions to be used as a study guide. I found the questions at the end of each chapter perfect springboards for more study and discussion.Ann Spangler’s deep knowledge, research and understanding of the BIBLE becomes very clear as she backs up the stories with scripture and historical data. Her creative sense of humor shines through each story from the chapter titled Wicked Old, How a Ninety-Year-Old Got Pregnant and Set Tongues Wagging to my favorite Wicked Funny, How a Good Queen Gets the Last Laugh. In her introduction she writes, “One of the things that makes Scripture so believable is that these unsavory stories remain part of it. In truth, the Bible never attempts to clean up the stories or whitewash its characters.” Using that truth, Ann is able to bring to us the lessons revealed through the lives of the wicked evil and the wicked good.My heart ached as I read Wicked Lies and the story of Eve. And I laughed right out loud when reading about Sarah and how she was filled with non-stop laughter marveling of her pregnancy after 9 decades of life. Ann writes, "Who wouldn't find that funny? Two old sticks kindling a fire!" Can you just imagine? I give this book 5 stars because I want you to read it. Use this book for a small group study. The message from the lives of these women is as relevant today as it was when they lived. Their God is our God and He wants to be as active in our lives as He was in theirs. While the book as a Bible study may appeal more to women than men, by the nature of the title, don’t let it fool you. Through these wicked women God has much to teach men and women today.

13 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Very disappointed By Debbie The title of this book is misleading. It's a selection of 20 Bible stories that are as much about the men as the women. So Miriam's story was also about Moses and Aaron, Abigail's story focused mostly on Nabal and David, and so on. The author took about 5 pages to retell each Bible story. She switched between tenses, so she'd start off in present tense ("run"), have a few "am running" mixed in, then switch to past tense ("ran"). It found this distracting, and it felt poorly edited to me.The author added fictional elements to "flesh out" the stories, but it was usually physical descriptions or comments like: Pharaoh made a "brainless attempt" to overtake the Israelites as they left Egypt. She also portrayed people in ways I don't agree with, like in Rahab's story: "Their husbands give her looks that tell her they are wondering what it would be like to caress her honey-gold skin" and this pleases Rahab. So we're left to believe God saved this apparently unrepentant woman simply because she decided He was more powerful than her gods. And some details didn't need to be added, like David watched as Bathsheba "rubs a sponge across her body--caressing her face, her neck, and then her breasts."Each story was followed by one page (or less) of information on "The Times" which told where the story is found in the Bible and about the larger historical context of the story. We're also given information on topics like harems, eunuchs, kinsmen redeemers, and such. The New Testament stories also included some cultural background information. She also included 4 or 5 questions about each story, like "What three to five words would you use to describe Abigail's character?"I've enjoyed this author's books in the past, but I was very disappointed with this one. Frankly, you'd get as much out of reading the stories in a good study Bible. The author even referenced information from the "Archaeological Study Bible," which I have and would recommend.I received this book as a review copy from the publisher through Booklook Bloggers.

El personaje principal está logrado y aunque los secundarios son un poco planos la trama se aguanta bien. No hay magia ni dragones ni elementos tan típicos del genero fantástico. Este hecho lo encuentro casi original y lo agradezco.En resumen, un libro bien escrito, que engancha y se lee rápido.

Wonderful story to take you into a different world By The Pegster If you have read Keith's Watcher's series, you will agree with me that he is firmly establishing himself as author of books of slightly odd teenage boy who gets thrown into a strange world which will become his world.Alex, a college kid, is regarded as slightly odd by his peers, as he has withdrawn himself from most of his friends since his mother vanished a few years prior. He lives with his father who owns a electro-magnetics research company. They both clearly are deeply effected but are supporting each other. On the 6th anniversary of his mother's disappearance, Alex gets called away in school to the head's office where he finds Silas, who works at his father company. Silas tells Alex that his father has also vanished and Silas has been made Alex' guardian. Silas behaves very strange, and Alex does not like him at all. Silas then tells him about the research Alex' father was working on which involved teleportation from one place to the next within a second using a special suit. He wants to know if Alex can provide him with any information, whether his dad has told him anything. Alex fears that Silas' interest might have an ulterior motive, and goes to investigate. He finds the suit and instructions from his dad to destroy everything. But all Alex wants is to find his dad, and maybe even his mum and hopefully this place where they have vanished to. Only one way to find out, and this is to try the suit to teleport himself. The world he will find is nothing like he could have imagined.I did not know the original story of the 'Missing Colony of Roanoke'. and while the author has spun a wonderful story around it, it is not a historical book, but firmly set in the present day.What I like about the book, apart form that it is easy to read, is that even though 'The Under' is of course an invention of the author - a different world and there are supernatural elements - it is still completely believable and I could imagine inventions like that can happen. Or maybe I should not let my reading cloud my perception of the world? Oh no, long may it continue and long may we receive wonderful books like this to take us into different worlds.This is a great start book to a new series, and I can't wait to see how it continues for Alex and everyone in 'The Under'.

I remember that Virginia Dare, the first child born in the New World, was born in this colony. By this little girl’s third birthday, the entire colony had disappeared. Where did they go?There are theories as to what happened to the colony, but do we really know why the colony disappeared? Matthew Keith has written a hard-to-put-down story about the disappearance of the colony of Roanoke. Could it have happened this way?The story begins in 1856. Benjamin Croatoan has made an astounding discovery, the Magnosphere, but the residents of Roanoke consider it more dangerous than beneficial. Found guilty of treason and sedition, he is exiled. When the machine is aimed at Croatoan and turned on, he isn’t the only one who disappears.In the present day, we meet Alex Croatoan. His mom and dad were the founders of a research company, Electro-Magnetic Technologies. Leaders in all the newest technological discoveries, they were looking for way to travel from one place to another using energy beams, or teleportation, when Alex’s mom disappeared.On the sixth anniversary of his mom’s disappearance, life once again changes for Alex. By Diana Kassavetis The only major criticism I have of this well written exploration of what happened to the colonists of Roanoke settlement is that it has a good beginning and middle, but no end. A sequel to a book used to modify the original theme somewhat, not be the second installment of a story like the cliff hangers of the old movie theaters . I would gladly pay more for an e-book to get the whole story. As it is, I now look to see how many I have to buy to get one whole story. Sad, because I really enjoyed the book until it never finished.
