~ WITCHERY & MAYHEM IN THE OUTER BANKS ~5-STAR RED CITY REVIEWWelcome to PORT OF REFUGE - another light and quirky island mystery steeped in Outer Banks culture, from the author who took you to PORT STARBIRD.Storm Ketchum, a damaged emigre to Hatteras Island on North Carolina's Outer Banks, generally prefers to stay close to home and mind his own business - but he unexpectedly finds himself entangled with a cult-like coven of modern-day Roanoke Island witches when a relative of his paramour meets an untimely end on church property. Is the High Priestess of the Croatoan Covenant Church really in contact with the departed spirits of the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island? Are the members of her church really from both this world and the next? Or is she just a con artist preying on gullible Wiccan acolytes - and is she a killer? A desire to provide closure for the family drives Ketch to once again call on his amateur sleuthing skills to conjure up answers to these and other questions, in the process risking the physical and spiritual well-being of both himself and the one he loves.Join Ketch, his loyal dog Jack, and his Kinnakeet Boatyard friends as they embark on a bewitching new adventure in the picturesque Outer Banks, where intrigue continues to cast its spell on them all.Garrett Dennis's PORT OF REFUGE is his second novel in his Storm Ketchum series. This novel picks up with Storm Ketchum, "Ketch," showing off his new houseboat and his lover, Kari, who is moving in with him. Everything seems to be in perfect harmony. However, when Kari's aunt passes away and a will is found giving all her assets to a Wiccan coven, things become weird. Something seems off. Ketch's sleuthing bug bites again, and he finds himself thrown into a world of the Dark Web, hitmen, witches, and drugs. However, it appears Ketch may have bitten off more than he can chew this time. The coven's High Priestess, Samantha, is sly and ruthless. She will stop Ketch at all costs from figuring out what the coven's true motivations are. Thus ensues a showdown of intellect and persistence. - 5-Star Red City Review

PORT OF REFUGE: A Storm Ketchum Adventure (Storm Ketchum Adventures Book 2), by Garrett Dennis

Review "Dennis is brilliant with his descriptions. He beautifully describes the Outer Banks area, not only detailing its physical beauty and peacefulness, but also delving into the history of the area. Whereas some authors can become a bit tedious in the details, Dennis' information is interesting and adds to the story - similar to what John Berendt's Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil does with Savannah, Georgia. Although it would be helpful to read Dennis' first novel in the series, Port Starbird, this novel can easily stand alone. There just might be a few finer points and background details that are missed if one reads this novel first. PORT OF REFUGE is an enjoyable read with an excellent pace." - 5-Star Red City ReviewPraise for PORT STARBIRD, the first Storm Ketchum Adventure - a Red City Review Book Awards finalist, Best Kindle Books Awards semifinalist, and ABNA quarterfinalist:"Ketch's knowledge of the island is professorial, something that will appeal to readers who adore a strong sense of place. The accented dialogue creates the right southern atmosphere... A good effort." - Publishers Weekly"Port Starbird has everything that a fun, summer weather novel should have - adventure, romance, beautiful beaches, guitar playing, underwater excursions, and, of course, murder mystery intrigue! The characters are so well written that you almost want to invite them to your next barbeque." - Red City Review"Tell me a book is a boat-filled adventure, a mystery, or a romantic tale, and I'll start reading. Find me a good story that combines all three, plus a dog, and I'll be recommending the book to others." - BOATING TIMES Long Island

From the Author Some notes to help you decide whether or not you'd like to read this book:1. This is a standalone book; despite being part of a series, there are no major cliffhangers. 2. This is not a formulaic mystery, suspense, or action/adventure story; but I believe those who enjoyed PORT STARBIRD will like it as much or more.

About the Author Garrett lives in upstate New York. PORT OF REFUGE is his second novel.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. "Welcome back, Ketch!" By Theresa M. Goodrich Ketch has decided that he likes being a detective! Garrett Dennis' second book brings us back in touch with his quirky, multi-faceted, good-hearted, and very human group of friends, and introduces us to some fascinating new characters as well. Both of his books contain current and accurate knowledge of the beautiful Outer Banks, the local geography, animal and plant life, weather, and points of special, unique interest. In addition, we as readers get a taste of the darker side of computer life and communication. With its unique blend of local lore and culture, genuine scientific and geographical knowledge, a very mixed but well-blended cast of characters, and unexpected bursts of suspense, Port of Refuge is a book to be enjoyed thoroughly. Both of Dennis' books leave the reader wanting more, very similar to wanting to know more about friends who lead exciting, adventurous lives - "Tell us what you've done THIS Time." This book was a genuine treat to read!

Garrett's writing style is quite unique with sentences, at times, that seem to go on forever--it's really very interesting. The book is a real page turner, full of suspense and adventure. Garrett's writing is very clever, witty, (with a great sense of humor-laugh out loud humor). I especially loved the philosophical musings of the main character, Ketch. All of the characters really come to life in this book. Garrett seems to have done much research in putting together this book, and the plot is full of interesting details on many different subjects . This book is a great follow up to the first book. I'm looking forward to going to the outer banks to see the book's fabulous setting for myself!Don
