0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. too short By NiqueDaOne i love Mrs. tomb's books i have bought & read them all with the exception of the last crusade. i have loved them all & have quickly become hooked but i have some problems with this story im sad to say...1. the overall chyna stone love story(the adult parts) it was unexpected & i found myself skimming & skipping it to get back to the story it just was a distraction for me...just my opinion.2. in the last chyna stone adventure they take precautions to keep the information they are gathering out the hands of the bad guys...they are then betrayed by one of there own...but in this book they take no precautions...non what so ever not even when they think someone if following them..in the 1st book the stay in very secure hotels & have guards they block the windows...you would think they would take minimal precautions in the 2nd book but nope they don't.3. i found the story went by 2 quickly...i understand that every job wont have danger & wont take long but once i was done reading the book i found myself saying well that was just easy everything went along with out any real effort.don't keep reading if you haven't read the book4. the bad guys in this book...weak...just weak....so i thought the story was finally about to get more interesting...the bad guys still the book & say it will never be found...Mrs. stone & her group kill the main bad guy & wound all the rest without knowing where the book is...& find the book in the car...really...the north guarding turning his back on a life time of protecting the book & stealing it i understand( he didn't think it was time to give the book up) but i thought here we go...there going to have to chase him down & stop him from doing what ever but nope...he came to them. he even brought the book with him even though he didn't want them to have it. it just felt like every one was saying hurry up Mrs. stone we cant wait to hand over this book we have been protecting for thousands of years. please come & take it so we don't have to protect it any more.i liked the book but i just think it was lacking...it felt hurried...it felt like this was a part one of a 2 part story but then she decided to change it & just gave it a quick neat end...that's what really bothered me it was all just neat & tidy & there was little effort put in the search of this artifact

This one does give a little more back story of Chyna and Anthony's relationship. Fast paced once you start you will not want to stop until you have finished it. Another must read......

We need to be Men of the Covenant, the Cross, & the Eucharist to serve and protect the others/Church By Dave McClow Deacon Harold is a force to be reckoned with when he speaks, and now he adds this book! This grand tour of male spirituality is deeper and wider than anything I am aware of. He integrates a vast array of Scriptures, Church documents, and the human experience. He includes all men, single or married, which is refreshing!The heartbeat of the book includes four things: 1) the covenant relationship with the Trinity, especially illumined by the spousal analogy, 2) the Cross as our model for suffering and living, 3) the work of men which is “to till” (Hebrew: *abad*), i.e., to serve; and “to keep” (Hebrew: *shamar*), i.e., to guard, protect, and defend, and 4) the Eucharist as the source and summit of male spirituality.Here is one sample regarding the Cross: “The Cross is the hermeneutic of male spirituality. It is only when we begin to understand the gift of vulnerability lived from the Cross that we will know what it means to be a man of God” (loc 299).This book is part Catechism, part kick-in-the-pants old and new evangelization, and part apologetics, but all of it will challenge you to know yourself (or your spouse) better and to grow in your knowing, loving, and serving God more! A great gift for any Catholic man, not just husbands and fathers By Stuart Dunn When I was a Protestant, I remember there being books geared towards men. They focused on being a husband, being a father, and just being a better man. Though I was just in my late teens at the time, I remember reading those, because I wanted to be the best man I could be both now and in the future. Since, I became Catholic I have noticed that there is a lack of "male spirituality" books, but that trend seems to be changing, slowly but surely. In 2009, we had Fr. Larry Richards' book Be a Man! After that came the series of books Joseph's Way. Now, we have Behold the Man, from well known Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers.Deacon Harold begins his Introduction by telling us how rare the Catholic man is, and says it is Catholic men themselves who are responsible for their own destruction and extinction. He then provides an example from a raunchy television show, Two and a Half Men, to show just how far we have sunk. After this painful example, we are presented with statistics that show how much men shape their children's religious lives. He cites a study that shows us the importance of Catholic men going to Mass regularly. If we don't go regularly, it says that only 2-3% of children will attend regularly. That's pretty devastating. The book is then divided into eight chapters, which cover topics like Biblical Manhood, Covenant Relationships, Theology of the Body, and Fatherhood.Before diving into examples of Biblical Manhood, Deacon Harold reminds us that we need to understand Biblical context before dissecting a passage. In this chapter there is heavy focus on God the Father and the first family of Adam and Eve. He then dives into the meaning of covenants, how God's love is central in covenants, and how important marriage is. He tells us that it is so important that God Himself, Jesus, chose to be born into a covenant marriage. In the chapter on fatherhood, he begins by emphasizing the importance of the Mass and Eucharist, and how so many Catholic men view this Sunday obligation as a burden. He also tells us that as Catholic men, we must focus on Christ crucified and model our life after His life so that we can grow in love for God and our fellow man. The most interesting section on fatherhood compared our roles as fathers to Christ the King, Prophet, and Priest. As fathers, we must exhibit love-centered headship, servant-based leadership, and life-giving authority.Deacon Harold always speaks with passion and conviction, so it was refreshing to see that style reflected in his book Behold the Man. He was able to mix practical with scholarly and deliver a book that was a clear call to action to all Catholic men. He didn't just rely on his words though, he backed them up with copious notes and references to both Scripture and the Catechism. What is most refreshing about this book is that it is not just aimed at a specific type of Catholic man, i.e., a husband or a father. It is instead aimed at ALL Catholic men, both laity and religious; single and married. So if you are looking for a book for the man/men in your life, I'd strongly recommend this one.

By Soccermom1960 While the book started a little slow, mostly due to character developement, I found the book entertaining and full of action. I found myself having to make myself put it down as I wanted to read just one more page. Great ending. Although it does leave the character a little in the air. Possibly a sequel to wrap up Mr. John Barnes. The author seemed extremely knowledgeable of the details surrounding the nuclear portion of the book. Well over my head. But I could picture what the author was trying to relay. The only criticism I would give is the book seemed a little unbelievable in parts. But like the movies, it is fiction. I would recommend this book to my friends and I would read it again in the future.Well done Mr. Parkhurst.

Why we have them, what they mean and how the messages within them can serve as a guide, a warning, a revelation or a glimpse of the divine. Premonitions are along that same vein, the inexplicable nudge toward something unexpected or that persistent feeling that compels us to respond in a specific, sometimes uncharacteristic, way. I have read previous issues of Chicken Soup for the Soul books and really enjoyed them. After reading and thoroughly enjoying her story which is on page 317, we went on to read others remembering that all these stories are true events that happened to these wonderful authors. I highly recommend reading this book.

She has had a lifelong love for the meaning behind dreams, believes in ‘things happening for a reason’ and generally believing in the power of such things as premonnitions and dreams. She is not a general reader but would read every Sylvia Browne book and anything relating to dreams, astral travel and such. Knowing that, I knew this would make an excellent gift for her and she loved it! She has read many passages already and given great feedback, so if you have someone in your life who also believes in the power od dreams, don’t hesitate to buy this book.

He graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1973 and served in pastoral ministry for over forty years. He currently serves as Pastoral Care Pastor at Salem First Church of the Nazarene in Salem, OR. He and his wife, Dianna, have three grown children and six grandsons. He is bold, passionate, and staunchly biblical. He is not afraid to be tough when it comes to God's truth. THE DAY THE EARTH SHOOK A story of climate chaos survival Synopsis This novel is at the vanguard of the latest literary genre called Cli-Fi (climate fiction), which is sweeping the world. Books in this genre examine the consequences of ignoring global warming, through the actions of fictional characters. This is a story of two men, both fighting climate change in their own way. Jack Halliday is a disillusioned journalist who drops out to his own private paradise, determined to lower his carbon footprint and live a self-sustainable life. The other, his long lost son, is a student activist who organises radical demonstrations against fossil fuels, power generators, chemical companies and large supermarkets. He is eventually labelled a terrorist and finds himself on the run from government forces and the police. The two men are thrown together after a cataclysm, caused by global warming. The book observes the results of a catastrophic global warming event, and explores the challenges that a region would face if it were suddenly isolated from the rest of the country and a devastated planet. The action takes place in a rural region of Australia, and the responses and consequences to a global catastrophe would be the same in many parts of the world. Although this book falls into the"science fiction" category, there are no zombies, mutants or super-natural forces from outer space in this story. Instead it realistically examines the scenario that would face a region that was suddenly totally isolated, without fuel, medicines, imports or exports. The story spans six years, exploring the strategies necessary for the survival of the region when faced with financial collapse, violence from criminal groups attempting to profit from the chaos, and from external anti-democratic forces. Woven through these dramatic events is a human story on the lives and loves of the two main characters. It is a realistic examination of the actions and traditional skills necessary to make the region self-sufficient and sustainable, creating a form of a future Utopia.

About the Author LEE PEARCE BIO Lee Pearce has had a lifelong association and addiction to print media from the time he sold his first pictures to a magazine at the age of seventeen. His teenage years were spent hitchhiking around Australia, photographing and writing stories for magazines. From Italian cane cutters on sugar plantations in Queens land to the beatnik bars in Sydney, he photographed feature stories on all aspects of Australian life. In 1959 he sailed for Europe, eventually winding up in London in winter in the middle of a recession. He was homeless and penniless and endured six months living on the streets in desperate circumstances. With these last few shillings, he bought some film and photographed a campaign for nuclear disarmament rally. He sold a picture to a Fleet Street paper and then Photographed a riot in Belgium. He escaped the English climate and spent some time in Greece and then a year working on a kibbutz in Israel, all the time doing stories for English and Australian publications. In 1963, with his new wife, he hitchhiked overland to India, from where he returned to Australia. All of his adventures, and many of the photographs from this period are contained in his book "Hit the Road", which will be published later this year. He then spent two years freelancing for many magazines including Rolling Stone, Cosmopolitan and POL, eventually returning to Europe, photographing and writing many stories on India and Nepal on the way. He resettled in London producing features for many Fleet Street newspapers and Australian publications, before spending six months in Spain. On his return to Australia, he immediately left for Fiji where he produced a book called "Fiji Today". For the last thirty years he has written and photographed for most Australian magazines and many newspapers. He has produced audio-visuals and videos on New Guinea as well as a book on Australia's national parks called "Wild Places of Australia". He wrote and photographed and self published a coffee table book called "North coasting… Life on the Northern Rivers of New South Wales". He abandoned photojournalism when he suffered severe vision loss and called on his colourful life experiences to write fiction full-time. His major new work "The Day The Earth Shook" is available from Amazon, Kindle and all e-book outlets, and the paperback edition is available through Amazon from July, 2015. His second novel "Deadly Flower" will be available by the end of the year.

The characters play out their lives while the planet, and particularly Australia, harvest the results of a society based on heedlesss greed and environmental destruction. It is a good read. The author has obviously enjoyed a broad life experience and now has the wisdom to take a wide view of it all. As the characters play out their roles, the author makes comment on the societal circumstances that are leading to, or as a result of government and business policies. These asides are acidic and funny, doubly so because they are so often true.Thge picture Pearce paints isn't a pretty one, but today's circumstances aren't pretty either; and the novel does have a soft heart with characters searching for love in spite of it all. More people should read Lee Pearce. He has something to say, and he says it in a way that will win him much support.

I recommend it for anyone who wonders about the future By bren claridge It's about time somebody wrote a book about the potential repercussions of humanity ignoring global warming. It's also a relief to read about what actions reasonable people would have to take after a global climate crisis. The characters are well drawn and there is enough action as the isolated community scrambles for survival, to make this book hard to put down. It also makes us question many of the things that we take for granted. For all the global devastation this is a strangely positive book, giving humanity a second chance to get things right. I recommend it for anyone who wonders about the future. William Douglas

An Entertaining and Enlightening Dystopian Vision By Chantal Boudreau It is surprising and fantastic when a dystopian novel written decades ago seems to be in tune with what is currently happening in the world, be it the voyeuristic and controlling government in "1984", or the entertainment-drugged masses, bred to their social status in "Brave New World". "High-Opp" offers this kind of precognitive insight, a hint of "Future Shock"-esque vision from Mr. Herbert.As with the typical format for a dystopian novel, the story begins with an attempt at a utopia gone wrong. What was originally intended to be the ultimate of democratic processes where everyone has equal access to resources so that no one is left wanting and no voice is ignored, has become corrupted. The survey voting system that was supposed to allow everyone an equal say in government has been secretly usurped and is being manipulated by a handful of now high ranking officials or "High-Opps", the majority of which are now in their current position because of the family they were born into, just like royalty. There are exceptions, like one official who was clever, ambitious and resourceful enough to rise from the bottom ranks to the top, Daniel Movius, and the story begins with his downfall, once an abuser of the corrupt system, and now a victim of it.Not surprising, feeling slighted and vengeful, he is willing to join the resistance, the "Seps " and the book follows his struggles from there: his alliances, his manoeuvring and his attempts to use the way the system works to counter his antagonists.I really enjoyed this book, with a great deal of detail woven into the narrative, delightfully flawed characters - the protagonist is not always all that likable, enhancing the sense of realism in the book - and plenty of action and intrigue surrounding the politics and the posturing. If I had only one complaint, it was that I found the very ending of the book a little unrealistic and over-the-top. Other than that, the story was an entertaining and enlightening read.I'd like to give this a 4.5, but with the limitations of a 5 star rating system, I'd have to say I'm more inclined to give it a 5 than a 4. I'd recommend it to anyone who would appreciate a stimulating dystopian tale that mirrors many current-day events.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. But is the book any good? By BG Redinger In a word, no. There's a reason it wasn't published when it was written, sometime between 1955 and 1965. The characters are one-dimensional, the unrealistic human interactions make a soap opera look like Shakespeare, and even the protagonist is unlike-able. He never truly suffers. The things that were taken away from him were things he never wanted anyway. By the time he decides to forego his revenge, events have moved beyond his control. The deep philosophical issues that make Herbert so interesting are completely absent in this book. The only redeeming feature is that it's a peek at a proto-Dosadi before the concept of a people conditioned by a harsh environment (such as the Fremen) were read back into the story, allowing the fan of Herbert to see how the author's ideas were shaped. For hard-core students of Herbert only.

Frank has been gone for a long time By Alexandre Brisebois Frank Herber has been gone for a long time, but reading this book was entertaining and refreshing. I wish more of these unpublished books would pop up. It doesn't feel as complex or as developed as some of his other publications. But it was a good read non the less.
