A great fictional short story, ripped from the headllines of today but shaped in the culture and community of 2025 By Sean Sumner A great short fictional story that brings up some very timely topicsBased in the year 2025 in Northern California, this future shows a time when the cultural makeup of the population is very different than present day and the police force is taking measures to change as well. With the caucasian population making up only a small minority, white officers are slowly phased out of the force in favor of other officers that better represent the racial and cultural makeup of the community.Although some of the topics and themes within the book could have been ripped from the headlines of today's newspapers, the author deals with them from more of a sociological perspective.Written by a former police officer with decades of experience in both police work and community management the author shows his knowledge of the inner workings of a police department and community politics

By Vicki Cook Our nation is in so much turmoil with the current state of affairs between the public and our police officers. Stories of injustice, mistrust and conflict are often heard. Sadly, race is often associated in these headlines. Regardless of your personal point of view on the issue, Sumner’s life experience in the force tied with his thoughts on what could be is encapsulating. It definitely got me thinking about how the state can relieve the tension between public/police and get the community trusting in those who put their lives on the line to protect them.

The author’s personal experiences and our nation’s current events lend themselves to this story’s character’s retrospective look at his law enforcement career in a future society. The personal choices and the political intrigue left me guessing how he could stay committed to the job. A good read that left me thinking.
