Forged through Fire By Michael Philliber Friendship that lasts to the end of one’s life is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain in the light of the high mobility of the nomadic 21st Century. And yet friendship – true, lasting friendship – is one of the gaping holes in our societal chests. It is a large theme fleshed out in Tolkien’s works like “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” and it is a major tone vibrating through Claire M. Banscbach’s “The Wildcat of Braeton”. This 447 page paperback written for fantasy-fiction lovers young and old, wraps up the story that began in “The Rise of Aredor,” bringing the saga to an end. Many of the cast of characters in “The Wildcat of Braeton” are old acquaintances met in the earlier volume, along with several newer ones. The first half of the story follows Corin’s friend, Aiden, who was still in the service of Lord Rishdah of Calorin, but has now completed his time in Rishdah’s Phoenix Guard. He returns to his homeland and to his family to find out what awaits him. When he left Scodra years before, it was on tense and troubled terms with his father, Laird Gordan, the head of Clan Canich. Upon his return things are not well, for his father has fallen under the sinister influence of Adalwulf of Clan Dyson. The aging Laird Gordan has all but alienated his Clan’s warriors, as well as his sons. What unfolds is a brave, bold and obliging reclamation of Scodra as well as the Clan, and Aiden rises out of the smoke and sweat as the grudging Champion of his Clan. Also surfacing from the dust and deadly contest is a growing attachment to courageous and committed Rona, a young woman willing to be armed and fight for her clan.Once calm and concord have been restored to Clan Canich, other things begin slowly to be reestablished. Relationships between Laird Gordan and his sons, along with the fighters and farmers are rebuilt; forgiveness is sought and received; hope and trust grow; and life begins to return to Scodra as in days past. Yet something unseen, but sensed, is in the air.The second section of the book unfolds with Corin preparing for what he can only suspect. The ranks of the Hawk Flight are slowly refilled, scouts and patrols are sent along the frontiers, but nothing can be seen. Throughout the time of preparing and waiting, Corin finds himself attracted to Mera, as a result of the scheming of his own sister. The relationship moves along, step by step in courteous and chaste ways, in-between patrols and frequent travels to the outposts and borders and back. Finally the concealed menace raises its callous head, and the rapacious conflict is on in earnest! Many of the characters who mount up in both books are bid farewell, and “The Wildcat of Braeton” comes to a close with finality and firmness. All through both portions of chronicle the friendship between Corin and Aiden matures and marches on. There is loyalty, commitment, support and the willing fulfillment of duty even in the face of dim probabilities and potential defeat. Each comes to the other’s aid when called upon, and both display trust in one another. It is a friendship forged in fire!“The Wildcat of Braeton” is a page-turner! It will keep the reader glued to it well into the wee hours of the night. It is a striking portrayal of camaraderie, moral courage, character and tenacious commitment. Older adults all the way to teenagers will delight in the book. As soon as it arrived in the mail my oldest son snatched it up and devoured it in one day! If you’re looking for a good and wholesome story for your young adults or for yourself, I highly recommend you pick up both volumes, “The Rise of Aredor” and “The Wildcat of Braeton”. You will be glad you spent the money to secure your copy! Thanks to Miss Banschbach for providing, upon my request, the free copy of “The Wildcat of Braeton” used for this review. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. and brimming with great characters. It follows The Rise of Aredor and ... By Shantelle H. Ooh, hard one to rate! Don’t let my low-ish rating (3.5 stars) stop you from picking up this novel; The Wildcat of Braeton really was quite an impressive book…set in the middle of a well-done, fascinating, non-magic fantasy world, and brimming with great characters. It follows The Rise of Aredor and continues the grand adventures of Aiden and Corin, and all their friends and loved ones. There’s epic battles, wonderful friendships, and endearing romance. The quest to guard Aredor continues as both Corin and Aiden rise to new heights and responsibilities in their lives. I did really enjoy it, truly. It is probably not exactly my style book though. I would recommend it more to boys 12/13 or so and on up. And also, girls with more Claire Banschbach’s taste! Some portions of The Wildcat of Braeton just didn’t capture me as much as an epic, gorgeous fairytale would, you know, *wink* But for the most part, I really liked this tale. I found myself wanting to return to Corin and Aiden and see where things would go next. Their lives intrigued me. Their fight for their homeland stirred my patriotic side, *smiles* Since this book is titled for Aiden, I shall mention his family a bit. So the Clans, (including the Braetons), were really fascinating. I almost feel like the idea of these group of people was taken from Scottish ancestry or something of that sort. In any case, their traditions and lifestyle charmed me, *grins* Loved the dancing, the bards, and the songs! So fun. I will say again, I felt Claire’s world building was quite well-done. It has the feel of being thought-out and all. So that was great. I was inspired by the world of The Rise of Aredor and The Wildcat of Braeton. And Claire has definitely found her writing style/flow. I didn’t notice any choppiness in this book. It all came together very nicely! And we get some romance this time! *winks and smiles* Some friendships developed into something more, and there were a few sweet kisses and moments. Some words of love exchanged. I was happy to see more of the girl characters and explore a bit of their thoughts, feelings, and adventures. There isn’t very much of a faith element. We have some talk of singing the dead off to Lleu’s Halls or something to that sort; and other little mentions of Lleu. A few Clan-traditions/folk-lore kind of thoughts scattered throughout as well. As I mentioned above, there were some endearing kisses exchanged as for romance. All sweet, *smiles* There’s some talk of cursing and rough(er) bantering between friends. Also, there’s frequent mentions of ale/drinks. But, after enjoying the story for a while … then we start getting to the heart-rending parts. Be warned, fellow readers, your heart will be (utterly) crushed a time or two. As for me, I like that “happily ever after” fairytale ending feel most of the time, so it was really hard for me to come to grips with certain happenings of The Wildcat of Braeton. And the ending was … different. I’ve read one other book, I believe, with that sort of ending; it leaves me with a bit of a surreal feeling. I haven’t decided if I’m okay with it or not yet, lol! *wink* So there is some sorrow in this book that my girly, fairytale-ish self had a very hard time holding up under. That would be the reason for cutting off a half of star from the rating I wanted to give. But overall, I really liked The Wildcat of Braeton! A chance to explore Aiden/Emeth’s story and journey along more with Corin as well. Just the last bit left me floundering! Here’s what I suggest. Read The Rise of Aredor and also give The Wildcat of Braeton a try. We have a fantastic writer here and wonderful non-magic fantasy, *grins* You can see if the story elements are more to your taste than my personal preferences!I received a proof copy of The Wildcat of Braeton from the author in exchange for my honest review.

The Wildcat of Braeton By Morgan Huneke, Christian Children's Book Author Recommended for: Ages 10 to AdultRating: PG (for violence)The Wildcat of Braeton is definitely a step up from The Rise of Aredor. I certainly liked it better. While it still doesn't make it to my favorites, it is enough for me to continue following this author's career.Writing: 4/5It felt better written than the last book, certainly. There's still more telling than showing, and the character point of view could be deeper, but there was less head hopping and the story was much easier for me to follow. Claire has certainly improved between books.Setting: 4/5The worldbuilding is expanded upon in this book. You get to see what Braeton is like. It reminded me of the Scottish Highlands as portrayed in Little House: The Martha Years. I always loved those books, so being able to draw that connection was a definite plus. It feels like a real world, and I like it.Plot: 4/5I liked this storyline much better than that of the first book. Aiden finally leaves Calorin to go home to Braeton. He had some difficulties with his family prior to running away, so fixing those relationships and fitting back into a very different culture from the one he has lived in for so long is an important part of the story. Also, Corin has trouble fitting into his old life. He doesn't really like being a prince. And the guys start finding girls. :) The threat of war hangs over them for most of the book, but battles don't happen until the climax, which is just where I like it. There are deaths, though, which, well, I didn't like them--at all--but at least it isn't as bad as Mockingjay. The story structure could still use some work. The plot line kind of rambles rather than following traditional story structure, as far as I could tell. Still, I liked the story.Character Development: 4/5In the last book, I felt like I was watching a group of close friends. In this book, I felt like I was on the outer edge of the inner circle. Certainly an improvement. Deep character point of view would make these characters fantastic because, while they are well developed, they are still a little difficult to connect to. That being said, the deaths in the battle did certainly affect me. I was sad. Very sad. They did feel like somewhat pointless deaths, but I guess it is kind of unrealistic for that many characters to survive the battle. I have to say goodbye to the characters before I know them as well as I would like, but I do wish I could know them better in later books. (The epilogue kind of seems to indicate that this is the end of the Aredor/Braeton books, at least for these characters.)The Wildcat of Braeton was a good book. I enjoyed it and do recommend it.For more reviews from me and my sisters, visit www.shirereviews.blogspot.comI received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.

Do you get tired sitting in a pew? Have you ever fantasized about traveling to the other side of the world, telling people about the good news of Jesus Christ? Wake up and look around: The world is right here, waiting for the Good News to make itself known. For too long we’ve outsourced God’s work in the world to missionaries “out there” at the ends of the earth. In reality, God wants us to love our neighbor right next door. He wants us to pray for the welfare of our zip code, to witness to the world outside our window. He wants us to be the church, the people of God, in conversation and meaningful engagement with the people God loves outside the walls of the church. The stories in this book will change the way you look at your city and provide insights into how you can be an authentic Christian.

By Paul Sparks There are simple revelations that could change your life forever - but most people don't know how to find them. Alan Briggs has discovered the secret context for ongoing revelation and real transformational mission - "Choosing to Love Where God Places You."Why do we miss it?1. We miss it because we alway want to "Go Forth"Briggs believes "the paradigm needs to shift from Go Forth to Stay Forth. People everywhere are discovering how the posture of staying forth - applying that same spirit of exploration to the place we find ourselves - can be exhilarating." The great media theorist Marshall McLuhan once said, "Environments are invisible." He realized that we are blind to the insights that could change our life, and the lives of those around us, because our context feels so ordinary and common that we overlook its meaningfulness. But, learning to love and listen to the place God has planted you can make you receptive to what God is doing and change your life forever.2. We miss it because we have not embraced what Briggs calls "Terrible Masterpiece of Proximity."Often we can't catch the life giving revelations God wants to give us because we do not put ourselves in a position where we can be known, where the truth about our lives can be clearly seen, where the effects of our actions can become more visible. "Proximity allows others to view pieces of our lives through a glass house." Sharing life together reveals both the cracks and the beauty we might otherwise miss. When we come face to face with one another, over the course of time our need for the power of the gospel is revealed. We can choose to fight one another, flee from one another, or rely on God to help us flourish together.3. We miss it because we don't want to explore our need for limits - we "try to change the world."Alisdair MacIntyre once remarked that the great philosophers have spent very little time exploring human vulnerability and dependence. We would rather explore how close we are to the gods, rather than what we have in common with animals. Staying is the New Going helps you find the revelations that come with embracing limits. "God has given us only so much energy. This realization should lead us to careful boundaries and stewardship..." Once stop looking only for big immediate impact and start thinking about "faithful presence" and "longevity" a shift happens. "It's more about covenant than emotions, more about obedience than motion, more about my life being affected than affecting those around me."Staying is the New Going is a book that captures the heart of the movement to join God in the local. "People everywhere are feeling this gravitational staying force... Our current places are becoming the next frontier, and neighborhoods are becoming parishes again, where churches anchor their communities and every Christian can live out our first vocation as a follower of Jesus eyeball to eyeball." Briggs writes like one who has been awakened by God to something so very special that we find ourselves surprised that he is only referring to the place we live. Could it be that this local ground has possibilities we have only begun to imagine? This is straightforward and helpful reading with meaningful stories and practical pathways for the most profound change. As Tim Soerens writes on the back cover: "This timely and energizing new book by Alan Briggs dares you to join a movement that's probably much closer than you imagined." Read this book - buy copies for your friends - and "stay forth" together into the life of God and love of neighbor.

By Gardener&Reviewer "Staying is the New Going" asks this question- where does your life happen?Where do you sleep at night, where do you hang out, where do you eat your dinner and go to church and go to work and walk your dog? Why did you choose this place, and why do you stay?Do you even intend to stay? What if you decided that you would stay, and stay well? What if we could reveal the hidden power of staying? What if we could stay in a way that's so compelling that staying would be the new going?Alan Brigg's thinks that we can. He's tried it. He's gone from a mover-and-shaker out to see the world to a man growing roots, trying to faithfully inhabit his corner of God's earth.Barring the necessary moves to meet your work and family needs, Alan challenges you to hold your ground in one place for a while. He casts a vision of Christians who move into any "ordinary" place and get busy right there with the people of that area. This book explores several aspects of what it takes to encourage a "staying culture." Some of these points really got my attention.First, we'd need to begin recognizing God's glory and good opportunities in our own zip code. Ministry and mission happen right here, Alan argues. God is at work and you can join in, on a dirt road or in a city block.Second, we'd need to understand this place we're trying to serve and flourish in. As Stephen King said, "A place is yours when you know where all the roads go." So, go explore. What's the culture? What's the lingo? How do the people here roll? Where do you fit in seamlessly and where do you struggle to find a toehold? What do you enjoy about this patch of the map, and what drives you crazy?Third, watch your mindset. As you explore, be a pilgrim, Alan suggests, not a tourist. To simplify the definitions, a pilgrim moves with an eye for Christ's presence in all places, and accepts the hard things as well as the lovely ones as part of the journey. A tourist might eagerly find all the best spots in town, but by nature they can't stay long or get deeply involved.Fourth, you need to neighbor. No, you didn't choose them. No, you don't live anything like they do. No, you don't know them yet.But if you're going to stay and stay well, you're gonna have to meet the neighbors."You know your neighbors are beginning to trust you when they begin to inconvenience you."This is a statement that is so true, yet I'd never thought of it this way before. If somebody is a stranger to me, do I call them to ask for help during the dinner hour? No. I don't.But if I ever did, if I took that risk, they might become a friend. And actually, I've seen this happen.Maybe you have too.Maybe you've been really blessed by the people around you, and maybe you've blessed them back.If so, you know what Alan is talking about. If it's never happened yet, keep the faith. It can happen."Staying is the New Going" would be a really great book to read along with Hugh Halter's "Flesh." Both of them revolve around the same thing- Jesus does his awesome work through common men in common places.(And perhaps you'll find that no place and no person is common, if you borrow God's eyes to look with.)I thank Tyndale and NavPress for my review copy.

This feels like a big kid's story book of following Jesus boldly and intentionally in the real world of neighborhoods, work, back yards, and your local city. It doesn't have any pictures but beautiful stories that paint a picture that it is possible to "make a scene for God's Kingdom".I think this is a game changer for young men and women that are heading out of Christian colleges with a romantic view of ministry. When we are encouraged to pursue influence, sexy ministry, and to be world changers (im into that too but..) we can miss the people and places we are placed here and now.I'm thankful for this prophetic word for the modern church...I pray it encourages you as much as it encourages me!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Holy crap!!! READ THIS if you want a thrill ride! By Mom of Two Kids, One Dog, No Sanity Let me preface this review with stating I love action and adventure books. Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler, and Dan Brown are some of my favorite authors. Ron Dalby is a very new author, but I figured I would give the book a chance because it popped up in my recommendations. Best decision ever – – I read this monster book in one day and only reluctantly put it down for meals. This has everything – – state troopers with a sense of humor, fish and game wardens with a grin, pipeline workers with quick wits and a love of bourbon, bad guys, good guys, some we're not real certain of, and the absolute BEST helicopter ride in frigid death defying conditions I've ever read. This author's descriptions are so incredible I finally skipped to the end of the book just to read his bio, and, well, it's exactly what you would expect for anyone who could write about the details this author does. Just --try this book out. You won't be disappointed.So--a preface about this novel: three disgruntled men decide they're going to blow up the the pipeline in Alaska in the early 90s. One of the ex-cons is a pedophile and we realize early on, also most likely a murderer who has nothing to lose. But there are some wonderful heroes in this book as well – – helicopter pilots, Alaska State troopers, Alaska fish and game officers, and even a good guy (er--girl) reporter. Loved almost everything about this work.Well, let me add an exception to that statement: I didn't love the fact that when I searched for other books by this author, I could only find Alaska travel guides. Here's hoping Dalby writes another work of fiction very soon!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Brilliant writing, truth in fiction By Lynne Curry Pipeline is brilliant; one of the best works I've read in a long time. It's fiction that reads like a documentary, and that's because it is. It's not just a well-paced action story, the detail brings the characters and Alaska to life. Because it's so well-written, readers don't know what will/won't happen to one of the main characters until it does. Because of my personal history with small plane medical rescues and brave and bold pilots I can validate that Ron wrote truth in fiction.

The author draws his characters from a pallet so colorful you can actually picture each one in your mind. From the young victims, to the bad guys, to the State Troopers, FWP and civilians...each one has their own distinct personality that pulls you in to the adventure and drama during a nine month period in the Alaskan wilderness (including the pipeline).I found it difficult to put the book down, but when I did, I couldn't wait to get back to it.I am amazed that this is Ron's first attempt at a novel, and I hope it won't be his last!Lori Slipiec

Climate is what we expect, weather is what we get. - Mark Twain By Cheryl Stout I haven't read any of the other Mariner adventures but I didn't feel that was necessary as I read MARINER'S ARK. It's a complete story in itself. This is quite an adventure, focusing on the overwhelming power of weather, especially winds and rain.Richard and Robin Mariner of Heritage Mariner Shipping are in Long Beach, California when they hear a newscast by Dr. Danielle Jones of the USGS National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration division, forewarning of an ARkStorm - over 40 days of rain falling at at least an inch an hour. It's hard to envision that much water. The Mariners with their cargo carrier Sulu Queen, and their filthy rich friends the Greenbaums with their racing boat Katapult8 and their yacht Maxima, all head to Mexico to escape the worst of the storm and to see the new resort built by Nic Greenbaum. The power of the ocean and the power (and capriciousness) of Mother Nature are explored in this gripping adventure. Besides ships (or boats) there is a helicopter, the National Guard to the rescue, a dirigible and pages that made me seasick to read them. The story started out a little slow but was soon moving at breakneck speed. I enjoyed the characters, the story, the dialogue but I did feel the ending was rather abrupt. If you like tales of the high seas, of Mother Nature at her fiercest, lots of details about shipping and sailing, I recommend this thriller by author Tonkin.NOTE: I received a free advance copy of this book from Severn House via NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.

Adventure on the very high seas By BasingstoneBook There is a long series of Richard Mariner books however this is my first and was pleasantly surprised at how entertaining it was. After a slow start which included unnecessary meal descriptions and other fillers, and the author started on the main subject of the storyline, things got measurably better. As an adventure story excluding the start it is full of exciting action and written in a way that makes it easy to visualise the experience. Mariner is in Long Beach with his wife when warnings are issued for an Arkstorm that would be bigger and more destructive than all the recent storms and tsunami. As he heads into the storm with emergency supplies aboard his container ship he is unsure of his wife's location or condition. Will she be safe in the luxury yacht Maxima as they go south following a high tech competition yacht?

What If God Wrote Your Bucket List?: 52 Things You Don't Want to Miss, by Jay Payleitner

Review

"Between the easy-to-read stories and observations, Jay delivers the kind of insight that helps give purpose to our time on earth. Keep reading and be ready to experience the abundant life Jesus promises." —Josh McDowell, author of More Than a Carpenter, and The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict

"When you're as old as I am, you need to keep your bucket list short and doable. I've just junked the bucket list I had and have found a much better one in Jay's book. This isn't one of those books that make you feel guilty about things you probably can't do. It's a practical, biblical, grace-filled, and fun way to live out your walk with Christ. Read this book and you, with me, will rise up and call Jay blessed. It might even change your life." —Steve Brown, radio broadcaster, seminary professor, and author of Three Free Sins: God's Not Mad at You

"I love What If God Wrote Your Bucket List? As I've gotten older, I've realized that life is all about moving from success to significance to surrender. So rather than living the rest of our lives completely on our own agenda, let's think about what God's agenda might be for us. With an enjoyable, non-preachy approach, Jay Payleitner gently challenges us to get out of our own way. A great read and a great blessing." —Ken Blanchard, coauthor of The New One Minute Manager and Lead Like Jesus

"Working in politics and public policy for more than 20 years, I know it's not always easy to focus on the goals God would have us pursue rather than the ones the world tells us are most important. That's why I was personally delighted to see this book from Jay Payleitner, who in 52 concise and storytelling chapters gives us encouragement to seek first the kingdom of God." —Genevieve Wood, The Heritage Foundation

"It's rare to come across someone who can get you to stop and think about serious personal application while keeping you smiling and chuckling at the same time. Payleitner has hit that mark for any generation with this book—a great read." —Brandon Aldridge, director of ministry services, Men's Ministry Catalyst

"For a long time I've been wanting to write a book about making a spiritual bucket list. Well, my friend Jay Payleitner has beaten me to it and has done a much better job than I could have. If you have ever wondered how to align your choices in life with God's will, this is the book for you." —Edward Grinnan, editor in chief, Guideposts Publications

"Are you working your plan? Or God's plan? What If God Wrote Your Bucket List? will make you smile and think, and it will equip you for your best plan going forward." —Bob Tiede, director of global operation leadership development, CRU

"What If God Wrote Your Bucket List? is a deep and rich treasure, at once thoughtful and whimsical. Jay brings the finer gold of the Christian life to light in this remarkable read." —Brannon J. Marshall, director of church engagement, Awana International

Since I don't normally read many religious books, I planned on skimming it and picking off a few key points that I could recite back to my friend to show that I read it and assure him that I enjoyed it. I started skimming the preface and found myself stopping, going back and re-reading paragraphs. Before long I found myself reading every word. Each chapter is short, succinct and peppered with colloquial wisdom and supporting biblical references, wrapped in entertaining stories about the author's family. Payleitner's wry wit and frequent references to expressions and practices from the 60's and 70's will bring a smile to your face....especially if you're over 50. His writing style reminds me of Dave Barry. My favorite chapters referred to bucket list items #11 and #48.

The list was very creative and unusual and the book was written in a way that was interesting, easy to understand and personally relevant. I received this book via Net Galley for an honest review and I definitely think it is worth reading and that it will result in you seeing your world and life in a new way.

By Amazon Customer It was an easy read, with quick 3-4 page mini-chapters that you can fly through four or five at a time without too much trouble or time-investment. The advice was sound, and had some good biblical backup. My only issue was that the personal stories that were given as background to each section sometimes felt a bit too much like bragging and name-dropping. I totally get the point of personalizing it -- it makes things much easier to relate to. But a few times it felt more like "Check out this amazing thing I got to work on." or "Guess what important person I know personally." I enjoyed the stories more when they were just about Jay's family or when they were more self-deprecating about past mistakes.Overall, it was a good read and was perfectly paced for the short attention span reader that I am. Give it a shot.

Year 2035 Cyn is a Drug Enforcement Agent (DEA) operative on assignment in Mexico, where a weapons deal goes wrong. She is force to shoot and kill another agent because she doesn’t know which side he is on or whether he is a rogue double agent. They assemble inside an old warehouse to negotiate the deal. Another agent was embedded with the cartel, which wasn’t revealed to Cyn for both of their safety. She arrives at the meeting and exits her red Corvette and walks up to the three Hispanic men. Emmanuel walks up and starts to pat Cyn down as she flinches from the man putting his hands on her body. Then he reaches under her skirt and slides his hand up between her legs. She shoves him away as he realizes she is carrying a weapon. “She’s packing,” Emanuel tells the other two men. The other men put their hands on their weapons. “Stop!” A voice emanates from the shadows near their vehicles. Cyn strained her eyes trying to see who the voice belongs to, but the man stayed in the shadows so he wouldn’t be recognized. “Where are the weapons?” he asked? “I didn’t bring them because I don’t trust any of you,” she said. “I have them stashed and waiting at a close-by location.” “We don’t have time for nonsense,” he said as he pulled out his cell phone and placed a call. After he finished the call, he pulled a black duffle bag from his car and said, “That was my contact and he stated there is no close-by location and this is a setup.” “Kill the girl!” a voice came from the dark. Cyn quickly grabbed her weapon from her inner thigh holster as someone started firing from the dark. One round hit him in the arm as Emmanuel pulled his weapon and put a round in the center of her chest. As she fell to the ground, she fired one round in the chest of Emmanuel, instantly killing him. She lies on the cold floor in a pool of blood, gasping for air as she could hear the air suction from the hole in her chest. She could hear the men leaving through a door in the back of the warehouse. Then she could hear some metal banging as she passes out. When she came to she was in the hospital waking up from a 30-day coma.

It had a lot more sex in that I thought it would have. Some parts were right close to porn. I liked the plot and had a nice Syfy twist in the entire story. I also liked Mr. Green’s tale on what new Technology might come about in the next 20 years as well.

Part Man, Part Wolf, All Cop By Brad Ellison If you've seen the film Wolfcop, which currently stands as the craziest movie I've seen all year, then you should know exactly what to expect from this book. If you haven't seen Wolfcop, then go do that, but this is a high-octane low-sanity action horror thrill ride that delivers all the gleefully deranged b-movie delights of the movie, freed from the constraints of budget and the laws of nature. Like a World of Darkness game run by a guy on meth, or an Golan-Globus-produced Charles Bronson movie described to you by a guy on shrooms, it's a crazy, scuzzy, supernatural adventure too ridiculous not to love.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. (a fun movie! ) and I had remembered seeing By Jason E. Berry So, my reading list was slightly derailed due to the fact that I watched 'WolfCop' the other day, (a fun movie!) and I had remembered seeing, not that long ago, that Permuted Press had published a WolfCop story, which I, of course, then had to read...Both are enjoyable, for what they are.If you enjoyed the movie, more-than-likely, you will enjoy the book as well. With a 'WolfCop' sequel on the way (looking forward to it!) it wouldn't surprise me if more books may be in the works as well.

Clark We already knew a trendy song that morphed into an earworm can damage your mental health, but who knew it could kill you? Not in the eating-away-at-your-brain-bit-by-bit way, but in the full-on psychotic turning-people-into-weapons way. The book begins with this idea and then tears through scenes of flesh-slicing magic and bone-crushing investigations that ultimately make the two misfits at the center of the story vulnerable to a most cruel and unusual demise. Seriously, how can anyone resist reading about death by flashmob?

By AshM I love John's books and have most in my library and copies on my kindle too! This is no exception, actually it may be my new favorite. There is in depth teaching with many many prayers towards the end. I have struggled with anxiety and depression most of my life and have had abuse at the hand of family members with mental illnesses as well. So there's a lot going on spiritually there. After only a few days the freedom I've experienced has been truly miraculous!Thank you John for writing this! And Jesus for anointing it!

It looks deeply into double minded thinking, one's perception of self and others. It address the casualties of being tormented, the cause and effects of confusion, some possible reasons for rebellious attitudes and action, and the feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. What makes this book ahead of its time it walks you through healing, deliverance, by the Word of God. Double minded is a catalytic for spiritual blindness. "Unshakable" a good read with "Prayers that Rout Demons".

The groundbreaking, bestselling classic, now available in a special fortieth-anniversary edition that includes a new Foreword from Eben Alexander, M.D., author of Proof of Heaven, and a new Afterword by the author.

Raymond Moody is the “father” of the modern NDE (Near Death Experience) movement, and his pioneering work Life After Life transformed the world, revolutionizing the way we think about death and what lies beyond. Originally published in 1975, it is the groundbreaking study of one hundred people who experienced “clinical death” and were revived, and who tell, in their own words, what lies beyond death.

A smash bestseller that has sold more than thirteen million copies around the globe, Life After Life introduced us to concepts—including the bright light, the tunnel, the presence of loved ones waiting on the other side—that have become cultural memes today, and paved the way for modern bestsellers by Eben Alexander, Todd Burpo, Mary Neal, and Betty Eadie that have shaped countless readers notions about the end life and the meaning of death.

Review “It is research like Dr. Moody presents in his book that will enlighten many and will confirm what we have been taught for two thousand years -- that there is life after death.” (Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, M.D., author of On Death and Dying)

From the Publisher "I had a floating sensation ... and I looked back and I could see myself on the bed below." "I went through this dark black vacuum at super speed." "From the moment the light spoke to me, I felt really good -- secure and loved." "I heard a voice telling me what I had to do -- go back -- and I felt no fear." "It opened up a whole new world for me -- I kept thinking, 'There's so much I've got to find out.'" In this fascinating book, Dr. Moody reveals his groundbreaking study of more than one hundred people who experienced "clinical death" -- and were revived. Their amazing testimonies and surprising descriptions of "death" and "beyond" are so strikingly similar, so vivid and so overwhelmingly positive that they have changed the way we view life, death, and the spiritual hereafter. Life After Death will intrigue and offer strong reassurance to anyone who has wondered "what comes next?" "It is research like Dr. Moody presents in his book that will enlighten many and will confirm what we have been taught for two thousand years -- that there is life after death." -- Elisabeth Kubler Ross, M.D.

She had cancer but died a peaceful and almost painless death. Mum had no fear of death or dying. But from the moment she died, I have desperately wanted to know where she went. I do not believe that a human being's life is completely snuffed out upon death. Reading Raymond Moody's book confirmed my belief. I no longer wonder what happened to Mum, where she went or even where she is now - I am at peace about all that. All my life I have deeply feared the inevitability of my own death. Now, when I think of death, I am no longer anxious and afraid. Again, I feel peace. Dr Moody's research has given me an intelligent, substantiated answer to what I once believed was an unanswerable question about the unknown. His book went straight to the heart of my need. If you fear death, or have lost someone you love, read Life after Life. It will answer many of your questions, diminish your fear and relieve some of your pain.

He found that all of the participants in the survey experienced God unconditional love. I believe this is the first publication about these experiences. It must be the survey Lewis makes reference to in his book An Encounter With A Prophet. It is enlightening to see how all of these people responded to these questions before the media got a hold on the subject and attracted the fundamental religious fanatics

By A Customer This book is a wonderful gift for our recently bereaved friends, or those who have notyet accepted the loss of a loved one. It is compatible with most religious outlooks anddoctrines. This very original work is a joy to read, and is a great solace and comfort to anyone who has ever had to deal with death of friend or family. Insights are given as to the true nature of death as a sequel to life, and the reality of a glorious afterlife. Largely due to improvements in medical technologies, many people are now brought back from near-death, often with reports of their experiences upon entering and glimpsing another world just over the threshhold between life and death...Their first hand reports are thrilling. The manner in which Dr. Moody presents these experiences, shared with him over the years by his patients, is sensitive and meaningful, never morbid or frightening. Upon completion, the reader may well exclaim, "Death, where is thy sting?". This is a "must read"!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Awesome... By Lynn Lamar I, too, was searching for free reads and stumbled upon James Oliver Curwood. I already have read 16 of his books that are free and fear the day that I run out of James' writing...I have even done a fiction analysis for a Written Communication course through college, on his "The Courage of Marge O' Doone."As a lover of the far North, I cannot get enough of Mr. Curwood's stories! Things change very very slowly up in the Arctic and you can rest assured that much of the same description of life in the North continues on in the current day. When Mr. Curwood gave up hunting animals for sport and starting writing about them as the beautiful living, thinking, feeling beings that they are, he expanded his depth of creative writing to an amazing apex. I have cried over several of his 'animal' stories, ie. "Baree, Son of Kazan," "The Grizzly King," "Kazan." and, my last read, "Nomads of the North. A Story of Romance." Richly heartwarming...Well done, Mr. Curwood, and thank you for your contribution to visual writing!! RIP

Had forgotten that the authors of the past were very good writers. Even though this was written long ago it was entertaining and hard to put down.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A good "old" story By Louanne I liked the book. It had some words that required my using the dictionary option in my Kindle, but I like to learn new words. Nowadays, seldom does an author challenge us to upgrade our vocabulary. This was written at about the turn of the last century by a Michigan man who was one of the country's most popular authors. The story is interesting about a woman who travelled alone to the Canadian Northwest and what transpires once she gets to the mining town. I'll most likely read another of his books; as a child I read his dog story Kazan and loved it. I'd recommend you give Curwood's books a try, get to know what your grandparents or great-grandparents enjoyed. Compare the writing of today with that of yesteryear.

John Smith has a wife, a daughter, a dog, bills, and a 9-5 job. He fully comprehends that the United States Government is financially collapsing and the voter base is revolting against the establishment’s puppet candidates. He has worked overseas enough to recognize this pattern and has witnessed the extreme measures that men in power are willing to take to remain in power. Today, John lives a normal life, but he has a bugout plan to protect his family for the day that things turn bad. His co-worker, Jim, lives a similar life. Because Jim believes that the Constitution protects him, the horrors that he witnessed overseas could never happen in the United States. One day with the flip of a FEMA switch, the president turns off all electric grids and communications. Within 24 hours, the president eliminates congress, seizes control of the military, and starts eliminating the troublemakers and non-producers. The American people immediately rise and fight, but the president’s military crushes the civilians at each and every battle, that is, until a rebel leader emerges and teaches the troops the art of guerrilla warfare.

The author provides a compelling, yet subtle argument for 'preparedness' as we progress towards fiscal disaster. He develops fictitious, yet plausible military scenarios resulting from our failed economic and foreign policies. The characters are realistic as are the locales and environments. There are some passages that I am not qualified to verify the authenticity of, such as the capabilities of various military ordinance and the adjustments needed to make a successful sniper shot. I'll leave that determination to the pros. There is a LOT of action, military action and guerrilla warfare tactics throughout the book that will keep the reader engaged as the plot progresses. What the book really does, is make you think..........what if a President followed through on the premise of the book? btw, the book lends itself to a sequel. I hope there is one as engaging as this book. After that, maybe the movie.

The general could be a possibility today, the President would have to be a power-mad individual ... but I liked that he kept his "voice of reason" advisor throughout the story.

Talk about being tired for work the next day. I just wanted to find out what would happen next. It was the same way when I read "The Firm" back in the nineties.
