Founded in 1971, The Witches' Almanac is a witty, literate, and sophisticated publication that appeals to general readers as well as hard-core Wiccans. At one level, it is a pop reference that will fascinate anyone interested in folklore, mythology, and culture, but at another, it is the most sophisticated and wide-ranging annual guide available today for the mystic enthusiast.

Modeled after the Old Farmers' Almanac, it includes information related to the annual moon calendar (weather forecasts and horoscopes), as well as legends, rituals, herbal secrets, mystic incantations, interviews, and many a curious tale of good and evil. Although it is an annual publication with about 15 percent of the content specific to the date range of each issue, there are pages and pages of interesting and timeless articles about Witchcraft/Wicca, magic, herbalism, charms, spells, and related topics.

The theme of Issue 35 (Spring 2016 - Spring 2017) is air: the breath of life. Also included are articles on Lithuanian Day of the Dead, Nine Elements of the Druids, Tomb Sweeping Day, Kohl, and the Akashic Records.

Yet another beautiful, deeply magickal almanac that is a MUST for your magickal library By Meredith This is now the third year in a row I have bought "The Witches' Almanac" and once again I am thrilled with it! These books are indeed magnificent keepsakes and are, in my opinion, indispensable for any witch or magick practitioner. There is so much amazing, enlightening and valuable information, so many great stories and ideas. I love how they have been focusing on the elements (the last couple years were "Mystic Earth" and "Fire, the Transformer") and I cannot wait to get the "Water" issue next year and complete the set! I learn so many wonderful things in each issue and I love reading and re-reading them throughout the year. There is so much innate magick in these books that just makes them all the more special; each time I get one there are articles that speak directly to me, that are about things that I recently thought of or wondered about before buying them. Sometimes you feel like much of it is written just for you! Are you on an occult or pagan path? Are you a witch, shaman, wise woman or wild man? Do you want to be a natural healer, or get in touch with the hidden esoteric world? Do you want to deepen your spirituality, your magickal skill, or simply broaden your mind? Then this almanac is definitely for you! I will definitely be buying this at least one more time next year, but most likely will buy it every single year I can!

By Poppy I am a faithful reader of The Witches Almanac and am so happy that it is available via Amazon yearly AND I can pre-order. I have been reading/perusing this annual almanac for 20+ years. Love it. Good for people who have short attention spans, a lot of valuable info packed into this goodie. Recommended for folks who like a variety of metaphysical type info. I like to leave it ion the living room table. So many of my friends and family pick it up, flip through it amd then go buy it. :)

By Katlyn I've been looking for more and more books as I dive deeper into my craft, and this is a wonderful addition. The articles are on a wide range of subject from many paths, and the astrology section is very in-depth. I bought the compilation book "Witches All" straight after to catch up on the previous editions as well.

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. a must read for any worship leader! By __ Zach Neese is the type of author with the rare gift of being simultaneously witty and weighty. In his book "How to Worship a King," he tackles challenging issues with the type of grace, strength and humor that makes even the most obtuse concepts tangible.I simply loved this book, and I have recommended it to nearly every worship leader I know. I am certain you will walk away from "How to Worship a King" feeling both encouraged and challenged...and hopefully, stirred to Worship the King of Kings more than you ever have before!

So often we take for granted praise and worship by allowing our thoughts to wander toward daily activities. How to Worship a King enlightens the reader to a deeper level of worship to the One Who gave His all. Zach Neese speaks candidly of his past and of his deep, abiding love for the Father. Zach Neese digs deep into the Word of God by relating worship to entering the Holy of Holies. This was a pivotal book in my life. Better understanding true worship of the King strengthened my walk with God.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Life-Changer By Loisa I wish I could post a screen shot of my heart before reading this book and after. I have been walking with God for 20 years and been a leader in ministry in some capacity for nearly all of that time. I picked up this book thinking I would maybe get a few tips for leading worship, or at least confirm some of the principles I have used. Instead, I found myself on my knees searching places in my heart that had not seen the light of day for years. I actually took off work and checked into a hotel to get away and quiet before the Lord to process some of the things being fed to me in this book. This is truly a life-changer. I'm living in new kinds of freedom. I sincerely believe anyone who desires to take their intimacy with the Lord to another level would be changed by the truth captured here. Please don't think it's only a textbook for musicians in the church. It is for anyone who loves Jesus and longs for intimacy with Him.

Have you ever made a mistake? A big one? I’m back in Chicago and back in business with my boss, Rinaldo Moretti. So much for my run at a normal life. There are some new faces in the organization, and someone’s been cooking the books. Personally? I think they’re after more than a just little cash. If I have any hopes of flushing out the traitor, I’m going to need to find a good hooker to help me sleep at night. As the bodies pile up, I find solace in Alina. There’s something about her, something different. She understands me without asking a lot of questions. It’s as if she’s known me for years, yet we’ve only just met. If I weren’t so distracted by business, I’d try to figure out her story. She’s the only one keeping me grounded as my world spins out of control. I’m going to lose the one man who has ever meant anything to me – the only man to ever call me son. I want to deny his request, but there is no avoiding what awaits me. I never wanted any of this, but I’m out of options, and time is running out. Some choices have unforeseen consequences, and some choices are simply irrevocable.

By Angie IsA ReadingMachine **I received an ARC courtesy of the author in exchange for an honest review.***** WARNING!*** ***MY REVIEW IS FULL OF MAJOR SPOILERS! ***I am utterly stupefied right now. I loved the entire Evan Arden series up until this point. I really enjoyed Isolated. I didn't blame Lia one bit for leaving...but I naively assumed Evan would go after her. He lets her go with a shrug and a 'she's better off without me' explanation. I just feel so cheated. For three books Savage has convinced us (or at least me) Lia is the one for Evan, the one to love him and heal him. I was excited for this book, now I'm just sad.Not only was Evan and Lia's HEA completely crapped on, now in just one book we're supposed to accept Alina, the hooker with the magic hands, as a better match? Not effing likely. I tried. I really did. In reality, relationships end all the time and in Evan's situation not just any girl can handle him and all the baggage he brings but I thought we were past that already. I felt like we were reading book one all over again - Evan can't escape Rinaldo, he still needs professional help for his PTSD (although he gets semi-cured in a way I'm still scratching my head over), and even his relationship with Alina is still shaky. For me, it was hard to focus on the meat of the story which is all about finding a traitor and the future of Rinaldo's business. I just kept wondering if Lia was crying at her mother's house assuming Evan is dead because he never came for her. I wish Evan let Jonathan check on her, it might have made me feel better if she was happy. I know this is fiction, I know this series is Evan's story not the Evan and Lia story but it doesn't make it any less upsetting. I may even be the only one that feels this way. I'll continue to read Savage's work but I'm very disappointed in this finale.

By Nook berd ******I received an ARC courtesy of the author in exchange for an honest review.*WARNING SPOILERS!!!I really loved how Unharmed ended, but I understood why she brought Arden back for Bastian's story. After reading that and Isolated, I was anxious for Evan to find and redeem himself with Lia.They had their happily ever after and when she leave he basically says "Meh..." and goes and finds a hooker. I'm sorry but that was done in Evan's first book. Maybe I'm too loyal, but I had a super hard time accepting Alina because of the connection he had with Lia.I felt like this book was incomplete in that there was really no closure with that chapter of his life.To me this felt like book one all over again and I couldn't focus on the story because I kept thinking about what Lia was doing. Evan was still dealing with his PTSD in the wrong way and the one person that helped him is missing and he has no desire to find her.I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wanted more in the line of closure between him and Lia. I invested my time and feelings in Lia for 3 books and for her to be completely written out isn't fair to the readers.Bottom line, will I read more Shay Savage? Absolutely! Do I feel like she cheated her readers out of a happily ever after? Without a doubt!

By Avephoenix After everything they went through, especially to Lia for sticking by his side and on top of everything, saving his life! I'm so disappointed by the turn this story had taken. HE SHOULD HAVE PUT HIMSELF DOWN AS HE REPEATED SO MANY TIMES IF LIA EVER LEAVE HIM OR IF SOMETHING HAPPEND TO HER.LIA SEARCHED FOR HIM FOR MONTHS, NEVER LEFT HIS SIDE THROUGHOUT THE MESS, AND HE COULDN'T EVEN DO THE SAME AND TRIED TO GO AFTER HER, BUT INSTEAD WENT AND FIND HIMSELF ANOTHER HOOKER TO REPLACE HER? (DON'T TAKE ME WRONG, NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT, BUT IN THAT CASE HE SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT AFTER KILLING BRIGITTE, AND SHOULD HAVE PUSHED LIA AWAY BEFORE HE HAD PULL HER DIP INTO HIS LIFE)!I WAS MISLEAD FIRST BECAUSE THE TRILOGY TURN OUT TO BE A 5 BOOK SERIES INSTEAD, AND SECOND BECAUSE LIA IS GONE AND HE DIDN'T EVEN GIVE A SH*T! YES, BECAUSE IF NOT ONLY THAT HE DIDN'T EVEN TRIED AND GET HER BACK, BUT IN ADDITION HE MADE HER A "TARGET" SINCE EVERYBODY KNEW SHE'S THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE! (YEAH RIGHT)!SORRY, BUT JUST STICKING TO THE "TRILOGY" ENDING INSTEAD! THIS IS WHAT HAPPENDS WHEN A FOUND AN AMAZING AUTHOR THAT TAKES ME DIP INTO THE STORY AND FOUND MYSELF PURCHASING THE ADDITIONAL BOOKS, AND SUDDENLY THERE IS NOT CLOSURE AND THE HERO BECOMES A SELFISH BASTARD!!!!!!

In Pauses for Lent, Trevor Hudson offers a beautifully minimalist book in which he focuses on one word for each day of Lent. You are invited to pause, focus on the word, read a scripture and a brief meditation related to the word, and then offer a prayer. Pausing in this way will help you carve out time for God and refresh your spirit even in the midst of a busy life. You may find yourself sensing God's presence in a new way and discovering that God wants to meet you in the midst of your life as it is, muddles and all.

At the beginning of every semester at college I would go through the same crippling feeling that I wanted to run away. After a year or two I noticed that in the first week I had to learn to plant my feet, because all the change and demands that were placed on me just completely overwhelmed me. Fast forward to this semester (the last one before I graduate) and I realized I did not deal with that fear this time around. College has become safe, and inviting so I don't fear it anymore. However, as a newlywed I am dealing with a new type of change as a transition from single gal living in a dorm with few responsibilities to married gal trying to figure out budgeting, meals, insurance, etc...One constant in my life has been change, and I cannot tell you how immensely comforting it was to read Kirsten Strong's book. I felt like I had a mentor sitting beside me, calming my heart, and turning my eyes heavenward. If you are in the middle of a big change, or if you are like me, and struggle not to run away in the face of fear---I highly recommend you give this book a read. It will comfort you, encourage you, and forever touch how you handle change in your life.

I cannot even put into words the ferocity with which I dug in my heels and gripped with both hands while jutting out my chin and saying a stubborn, emphatic NO!!! to change.Change scared me to death. I hated the vulnerability, the uncertainty, the learning curve...the upending that came with change of any kind. {Other than my underwear. I did change that.} I felt like any measure of change would rock everything in such ways that I couldn't even recognize my own life or hang onto the control I erroneously believed I had over it.The passing of time and the growth in understanding I control nothing and God controls everything have helped me loosen my grip on change, and some of it I actually {gulp!!} like now. But there are still moments when God calls for change, and that familiar gripping and digging kicks in.So you can see why I wanted to read Kristen Strong's "Girl Meets Change." Here's what I love about Kristen: she's normal. She's a wife. She's a mom. She's a girl. She's a Christian. She's lived a military life for many years. She gets it. She doesn't write this book from some big life-altering, tabloid-attention-grabbing seat that no one else will ever sit in. She's just just like us. Just a girl livin' life. But as you might imagine, with credentials like wife, mom, military...human being, she's no stranger to change. And she's resisted it from time to time in ways identical to my own stubborn resistance. Through those moments, she's allowed God to teach her to not just survive the change, but to meet it. To embrace it.To allow the best change of all: His change in her heart, regardless of how much she likes or dislikes the physical change in front of her.Gasp.In fact, she has learned to say {and mean!} "change is an absolute provision of God's grace." Oh, my goodness, how true it is.Good news? She doesn't take away the truth that change can hurt. That it can bring grief. That it can be a loss. But she also offers the equal truth that it can be a beautiful gift when cradled in the Hands of God.This book is saturated in brilliant quotes that I would highly recommend scribbling on note cards and scattering around your house if you are in a season of hard change right now. It's saturated with stories of her own run-ins with change, how she coped, and what she learned. She's a girlfriend having coffee with you, smiling and offering hope and hugs when you want to lay your head on the table and sob.And the additional brilliance of this book is that it really doesn't matter what change you're facing, you'll find something to aid you in these pages. I say that because getting to peek at this book a bit early meant I also had the chance to see notes from other people as they read through the book. I saw notes from women facing health changes, death, birth, kids going to college, kids going to kindergarten, starting jobs, losing jobs, moving, not moving...changes of all kinds for women of all ages. And each one found hope in the pages. That's a God-breathed miracle...that He can bless a human being's words to bring HIS hope to people in all life stages. So if you're facing a change you didn't ask to face...if you're facing a change you saw coming...if you're facing a change that is good and you know it, but hard at the same time...if you're watching a friend face a change that seems to be her unraveling, I have three words for you: Girl Meets Change.* Thanks to Revell for the advance copy of this book and the chance to share my honest opinions. *

For those fearful of change :) By Marbara Stivers "Letting go of the fears and lies that cause our hearts to hurt and hands to wring is not a once and for all activity. Rather, it's a daily choice to make, remembering that yes, God will be faithful here, too. We make a daily decision to not let those fears determine our actions". If you need a friend to walk you through the changes that come to all of us, grab this book and let Kristen lead you through Scripture and remind you of your worth and purpose. You will underline, journal and pray with her as you journey through her book...until it will become your story as well. Your attitude towards change will change...and that will make all the difference!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Reclaimed By Lola I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.I love Pajonas her Nogiku series and I was both excited and sad because this book is the last book in this series. I love Pajonas her writing style and the slow pace really fits this story. In Reclaimed Sanaa is trying to find allies, but it isn’t easy. This book really is a struggle for her, Sanaa loses so much and gains only a little, although a few very important things. My favourite aspect of this book were the animals, there’s a twist involving the animals which I loved. It felt a bit like the series took a different direction with that, but there were already some clues in the previous books, I just never had expected this. One of the things that troubled me a bit in this book was my lack of remembering names and the lack of having a map of the country next to me. I am pretty bad with remembering names and it seems even worse when reading books with lots of side characters, then names all sort of start blurring together and I had a lot of trouble keeping some side characters apart. It didn’t help there are two clan related people who’s name both start with an M and half the time I couldn’t remember who was who just that they belonged to a clan. That was enough to follow the plot, but it felt like I was missing pieces as I read the previous books so long ago. Also there is a map of Yusei and make sure to look it up before you start this book. Halfway I had enough and picked up my copy of book 3 and looked up the map so I could get my bearings. There were some scenes where I lost track of where they are and in my opinion the map is absolutely necessary to keep track of where is whom and how everything is located in comparison to everything else. This book is a lot about the characters and maybe even more so than the previous books. I actually liked Sanaa less in this book and on the other hand felt really sorry for her. She goes through so much in this book and it was just hard to see her struggle. It was too much at times and I just wish she would get a break as I got tired from her never sleeping or eating well. I just wanted to cook for her and force her to eat as she was breaking her own body. Pajonas also shows how that impacts her and she feels the effect of the bad eating and sleeping, which I was happy with as it was realistic. I’ve read a few books where the characters keep going on even though the should be falling apart, so I was happy that wans’t the cae here. I just felt like it was a bit too much at times, I wanted to have some happy moments as well, but those are rare. There is so much sadness and hardship in her life, it just doesn’t seem fair.Even though it’s the last book in the series there are a lot of new characters we meet. My favourites where some of the animals, the owl was so adorable and one of my favourite new animals in this book. Then there are some new characters who end up playing a big role and some surprising twists where some characters are involved. There are also some unfortunate turns with some characters which made me really sad, everyone loses so much. The whole book felt a bit sad, due to Sanaa, but also do to the events that happen. There were some fun scenes, but mostly I just felt bad for Sanaa or sad. She sacrifices so much for this country and her people and she get’s so little back. She sacrificed almost everything she has and the ending felt a bit unsatisfactory as I felt like she still didn’t get the ending she deserved. She was still trapped, but on the other hand I did like how realistic it was, not all her problems are solved in one day. Although it also leaves a few too many open threads, but the main plot get’s resolved. Also a certain scene at the ending felt a bit too easy, it still felt like it went a little too easy and like they didn’t really need the help they were looking for. It just felt a bit silly looking back, that so many of the book focusses on one thing and in the end it seems like it doesn’t matter, ofcourse the characters don’t know that, but it just felt a bit off. And I just missed the emotional bang at the end, but maybe that’s just me. There was an epilogue, but it doesn’t really show us how things are now 3 years later it only shows one individual scene. I guess I just wanted more, to see where things are heading? The ending is very realistic and that’s also one thing I liked, everything isn’t neatly wrapped up and not everyone get’s their happy ending. The ending did fit the story. The romance always has been one of my favourite aspects of this series and I loved that in this book as well. I felt a bit sad that Jiro didn’t pay more attention to Sanaa at the beginning and didn’t realize what she was going through, but she did hide it well. Their connection is strong and while the romance is pretty on the back burning, there are still some very sweet scenes and I just love this couple. They deserve so much more than what they get from the world. I also like how Jiro keeps standing beside Sanaa, even when everything goes wrong and the odds are stacked against them, he stays at her side. I just loved that and what they have together is so precious. There are some things added in terms of world building, mostly related to the animals and the new city they visit in this books. It helps build Yusei and gives us a more complete picture of this continent and the people who live here. There was also some focus on how the different people saw Sanaa, her grandfather and Fujiwara. I thought it was great that even the last book in the series still adds new things to the world. To conclude: I loved this book and it is a good ending, but I just hoped for something more concerning the ending. Sanaa goes through a lot in this book, it’s hard to see at times and she ends up sacrificing so much. I hardly recognize her when I remember her in the first book. This book has a lot of sad events, loses and changes that hit the characters hard. It was a a bit depressing at times, but there were also some happy moments, I just wished for more of those. Sanaa and Jiro their relationship was great and I love how the stand strong together. I just hoped for more for them, they deserve more. I had some trouble remembering who was who at times because it’s been awhile since I read the previous books and made sure you have the map close by when reading this book. There was a twists with the animals that I loved and it added an interesting perspective. All in all I really enjoyed this book, but I had hoped for a happier ending, even though this is a good ending and staying true to the world and realistic at the same time. I just hoped for more for these characters as they deserve more. Most things were too hard, but things at the end seemed a bit too easy. This is a great series and I would recommend it to everyone who loves a good sci-fi book with some romance thrown in that doesn’t take over the plot, but is one of my favourite aspects of the book.

This story goes places I never expected, and wonderfully at that. There were heartbreaking moments - yes, I cried - and an entire (new!) plot line related to the animals that was just filled with whimsy and wonder. I absolutely loved that part. (And now I want an owl...) The heartbreaking moments certainly outnumbered the happy moments in this book and I was left feeling horribly sad for Sanaa most of the time. She sacrifices so much over the course of the series, particularly in this book, you just want her to catch a break and she almost never does. The endings of good books always make me sad and this was no exception, but it did wrap up nicely, if not entirely tidily. (Nor should it - endings are rarely tidy! It had a very real-world feel to it.) I think perhaps I expected a trifle more from the ending, but I've no notion what that would have been. Maybe just because I wanted the story to go on forever!I highly recommend the whole series!I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Love this series! By Karen Loved this book! Loved this series! And now I'm a bit sad that this series has ended. This post-apocalyptic book set on a new world, along with the Japanese cultures and sci-fi technology, was exactly my cup of tea!Sanaa, the MC, goes through so many difficult losses and it seems that just when she seems to find a bit of happiness, the author throws yet another punishing scenario at her. But Sanaa being Sanaa, overcomes each experience in her Sanaa way.My absolute favorite parts in this book, which weren't in any of the others and therefore made this book in the series a standout for me, were the animals. OHMYWORD, the animals!!! If you are in any way an animal lover, then I think you should read this series just so you can get to book 4!So, in ending, I really love the writing style of Pajonas and am looking forward to whatever she comes up with next in the sci-fi realm!I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

"Dhrusil-matkhashi is a wasteland. The soil is sterile. Why do you suppose we stay on this continent?" Marta, a graduate student researching indigenous life on isolationist Dray's Planet, discovers an animal that can't be indigenous, but which can't have come from anywhere else. The puzzle convinces the Children of the Second Revelation to bring two Unbelievers into their closed society. As the rival offworld scientists trek into the harsh desert to determine the creature's origins, Marta stumbles onto another mystery: why do folk tales speak of roarings and screechings from the planet's second continent, the uninhabitable Land Beyond the Gates? And why are the Faithful forbidden to set foot there? Religious leaders will not sanction a trip to the uncharted land they deem uninhabitable. Marta must keep her expedition from coming to their attention, while keeping her difficult offworlders on task. After that, uncovering the secrets of the prohibited place ought to be the easy part. But they still have to live to tell the tale...

The characters are multi-dimensional and their motives change as circumstances change. Every character had an interesting personality. Most SF characters are very one dimensional (ie. good guy, bad guy, greedy, altruistic, etc.) Well's blended these and other traits to make very realistic characters. The plot was interesting with a surprise twist ending that I liked a lot. The theocracy was a bit too unrealistic for me but worked in the context of the story. Finally the sex was not nearly as gratuitous as the author likes to make it out to be. The sex scenes fit in very well with the story and seemed appropriate.

Wells takes a typical SF plot--the mysterious life form and the scientists who try to figure out what it is and how it got there--and blends it nicely with ``the backwater planet held back by a religious theocracy'' theme--and brews up something fresh and spicey.Marta, the randy, feisty heroine (aka ``the little predator'') herds two glory-crazed, funding-obsessed scientists around the planet. The plot twists and turns nicely, and she becomes the stuff legends are made of, as we see from the clever framing device--the text is woven around a tale told by caravan leader to his child at some time in the future. Increasingly the text itself diverges from the Arabian nights tale the nomad tells, and that only adds to the fun.Seems as if there's going to be a thousand and third night, too. But this one's more than enough for now.

Now the story is not exactly brimming with technology, which actually makes this a believable story in many ways. The humans of Dray's World are Nouveau Moslems of a variety that see men and women as equals in every way. The women are strong and independent and I think that's the best with this story.However. I read this book with an initial joy that slowly turned into disappointment. The Islam portrayed in the story is an Islam interested in the pursuit of knowledge, tolerance and equality. The fact that the leaders of this culture has lied to their own people is not what bothers me, leaders always seem to have something to keep away from the prying eyes of their subjects. What bothers me is that an equal and tolerant society still practice execution of dissidents. If anyone questions the religion they can be killed by people throwing stones at them. That seems odd to me. I am not naive enough not to realize that this is the prerogative of the writer to create the society of her choosing. But to brush past this fact that unbelievers and dissidents are not part of the tolerance of the Innantan society seems disturbing to me. Whenever a religious order create a closed society to practice their beliefs anyone who follows them into seclusion are accepting the rules of the group. Their children are the ones who rebel. I read somewhere that the Puritans of New England were disturbed by the fact that so few of those born in New England measured up to the standards of the Puritan faith. Where are the dissidents of Innanta? The second problem I have with this book is that in a society that favors sexual freedom in the way that Marta practice also executes homosexuals. I think that a culture that has an easy attitude towards womens sexual rights usually also are easy on homosexuality as well.

A sweeping historical adventure that's equal parts romance and thriller, K. T. Tomb's latest novel takes the listener from war-torn ancient Greece to deep sea dangers...and something far worse.

On the brink of the Roman Invasion of Greece, the city of Corinth, well established as a mighty seat of power in the Achaean League, is threatened with impending destruction. Widespread colonization of the mainland has severed crucial supply chains and the need to establish a fruitful colony of their own has emerged.

Aineias and his steersman, Pyrrhus, are the only sailors willing to take on the voyage, which will take them across the seas, through the Pillars of Hercules, and into the vastly unknown oceans beyond in search of Priteni, a beautiful and fertile island of fable.

With his crew of free man and a chain of Tracian slaves, Aineias sojourns to the end of his world and into the new in search of a land whose colonization could save the future of his beloved city. But as their journey progresses, evidence that the Romans are preparing for a major incursion on Achaea becomes more and more evident. The men soon realize that the only hope they have of saving Corinth before the Romans reach the isthmus of Megara is to chase after a legendary creature which has been destroying ships and killing sailors around the strait.

If they could capture it and bring it east with them, they could turn it loose on the expanding navies of Rome and put an end to their attack on Greece. They know their task is impossible, even the gods have told them so, but if Aineias and his men are to change the fate of their homeland, then they have no choice but to seek...the Kraken.

It was well written and easily read, however, I did feel as if I was reading a young adults book. I am not likely to read more by this author but will recommend the book to my nephews.

I would have enjoyed a longer story as this seemed short and to the point. I'm surprised by how quickly I read the book. Either it wasn't a long novel to begin with (my kindle needs page number formatting...) or I was quite captivated with the adventure! I do plan on reading more books by the author.

Wright I bought this particular journal for my son for his 19th birthday.I bought this one because of the Bible verse Jeremiah 17:7 on this beautiful journal. The 'Trust in the Lord' on the front of the journal under the gorgeous tree; the verse on the back, the Bible verses inside were other reasons that impacted my purchase of this particular journal. My son journals when he studies his Bible, so I look for not only quality journals for him, but also ones that I know will have special meaning to him. This journal is made very well, and will last a long time. We are very pleased with it. The zipper is a heavy duty zipper, not cheap.I recommend this journal to anyone that seeks a quality Bible themed journal. I love it!

Each page includes a scripture verse and the zipper, pages, and overall product is quality. A beautiful device to use during bible study or as a tool to chronicle your life etc. I have found the scriptures quite fitting and oddly applicable. The product(s) arrived on time, as described by Amazon & manufacturer, it was shipped without issue, arrived within prescribed estimates, the packaging was undamaged, and the product itself was unmolested and made with quality materials. Description, photograph, website presentation, and what arrived are the same-size, shape, color, and it matched my expectations.

An unexpected funny gem of a book written by a really nice guy By Korey I was at a science fiction convention in Chattanooga and was wandering through the dealer's room and happened to see a display containing a book titled Xenotech Rising. I really liked the title. I picked up the book and read the back and chuckled. I put it down and continued around the room. I passed by the table 3-4 times and each time I smiled when I read the front of the book. Finally I bought a copy from a young lady manning the table. I was asked if I wanted a pink Rabbot cookie. (read the book to find out about those! LOL) Yes a real cookie as well as the book. She also said if I came back later I could get the book signed.Between panels I started reading the book and it was a lot of fun. It made me laugh out loud in more than a few places. I had the book in front of me as I was sitting waiting for one of the panels to start. A gentleman comes up sees the book, smiles and says thank you! It turns out he was the author Dave Schroeder. We had a great conversation and he signed the book for me. I met him and his family again at a restaurant and he remembered my name and we talked a bit more about the book.We never know when we will find a gem of book. I was lucky that my brain kept bringing my eye back to this book. I won't go on about things in the story but I will say there are lots of little hidden treats in the story - references to other science fiction stories and authors. I enjoyed discovering those as well as discovering the characters. I am looking forward to the next book. This book is self published which means it's harder to get it recognized. The only way for people to hear about it is for those of us who have discovered the book (by whatever means) to let others know about it. I will tell my friends about this book. I went back to the table and bought a couple extra copies to give to people I know will enjoy it. If you read it and like it do the same. Mr. Schroeder was very happy talking about his book and his characters. He said writing his book was a lot of fun for him and it shows in the book. This is not one of those deep, dark, serious science fiction novels. It is lighthearted and very inventive. And Jack, the main character, is an amazing dynamo of a good guy who is building up his company as well as a network of very interesting friends a lot of whom are non-terrestrial. His friends include the oddest wisecracking "genie" in a bottle you can imagine and a shetland pony sized young hexapod with blue and pink spots who enjoys earth bedtime stories. Need I say more? Working for Jack would be the ultimate in IT!Thanks Mr. Schoeder for writing such a delightful book and for taking time to talk about it with me!

By Amazon Customer Quick Witty and showcasing an American take charge attitude in a new galactic reality.I am really glad that I took the time to pick up this story. I look forward to many more Xenotech adventures. I can totally see this series as Pratcett-esk with situations consistently becoming surreal and villainous antagonists that can steal the scene. I am glad that the story was complete in itself and the series appears to be episodic which if Mr. Schroeder can produce quick enough he is sure to receive a great and enthusiastic following. The main character's solutions to the tech support problems never failed to advance the story and were more amusing than not; and the various problems from imported alien technologies showcases the author trying any way he can to make the reader sure he has no idea just what is coming next.gallandro

The well crafted characters and erudite writing make it a pleasure to spend time there. If you like your sci-fi with a touch of humor, this will be a favorite. Hope its the start of a series.

Benabides is like a fusion appetizer - it's wonderfully complex but leaves you wanting more. There are really two stories happening simultaneously, both of the main characters are sons cast out of their homes by fathers who want them to learn to respect what they have been given. What we are just given a taste of in the main protagonist is a spoiled, aristocratic, brat having their world turned upside down and through the trial set before them we start to see a young man who may have redeeming qualities after all.... Unfortunately I'll have to wait for the next installment to see if this character development continues. While there are angels and demons in this tale as a Christian I can safely say, check your Bible and any ruffled feathers at the door. There are certainly some Judeo-Christian aspects like the references to heaven and hell, but these, as well as the terms angels and demons, really hold a more mythological construct. There are some minor proof reading issues and while they caused me to stumble they weren't enough to detract from the story. These along with the brevity of the story are the only reason why I gave this 4 stars instead of 5.

Benabides delivers a riveting and memorizing story of a dyspeptic post-apocalyptic future set in Japan that seamlessly blends the details of the present in something that is curious and captivating from the first page. Truly an enjoyable piece of work that will leave you turning the page and wanting more. Since this is part one, your wish to read more about these fascinating characters will be granted, I hope. While J.D. is a young and unknown writer at this point, I urge you to give his work a chance. I'm sure you will find his budding talent starting to bloom in this work and will become mesmerized in the tale he's spun.

I found that the story moved quickly and the chapters are pretty short. I really liked the opening lines of each chapter which are a sort of mythological parallel to the story that unfolds in the chapters. The author has a good sense of pacing and I am looking forward to reading the upcoming parts of this book.
