Her death was totally unexpected and devastating. She passed while we were out and the Veterinarian hospital we took her to could not revive her, nor did they perform autopsy's. So not only were we grief stricken, we didn't even know for sure what she died from! I started searching the internet in the desperate hope of trying to figure out what the cause of her death was, and I just happened to come across Brent Atwater and her You Tube videos. I have no idea how I found her, but I can only surmise my precious Julie led me to her. I started to watch her videos which covers everything from grief to guilt to how to cope with our pets deaths. I immediately found these videos extremely comforting, not realizing there are so many people out there that love their pets and were as grief stricken as we were. I continued to watch the videos and decided to purchase (2) of her books: After Death Signs & Animal Reincarnation. Brent said that we can still talk to our pets and ask them for signs because even though they have left their "fur suit" they are alive and well and in a bright, beautiful sparkler form right there next to us waiting us to talk to them and to be happy! So, I decided to ask Julie for a sign because I needed to know if she was ok. Brent instructs us to be specific in the sign that we want them to visit us in, so that we can recognize that it is indeed them when they visit! So I asked Julie to please visit me in a specific form. A couple of days had passed by, then while I was walking up the stairs in my house, I turned around and there was Julie! Right there on my deck looking at me through the window was a red Cardinal! You might think Cardinals are everywhere, however, I had not seen one in my yard for over a over a year, and have not seen one again since! I was so thrilled and it touched me deeply knowing my baby girl was alive and well on the other side. I never knew you could communicate with your beloved deceased pets until now. In Brent's books she goes into specific details on the procedures you need to follow exactly to get the positive results you want. I would highly recommend these to anyone wanting to truly have a new journey with your beloved animals. Brent also conducts live readings which you can schedule on her website. I recently had one myself and was so amazed that my Julie talked to me through Brent and said things that only she would know! While I am still very sad in my heart and missing Julie terribly, I am comforted knowing she is okay, and that I CAN communicate with her if I want to and so can YOU!

By Nella Coiro I have read all of Ms. Atwater's books related to pets, and have successfully practiced her techniques. When my basset hound, Patrick transitioned, my heart was shattered, and I was devastated. He was my "baby". So, I searched for hope and discovered Ms. Atwater's books, used her techniques verbatim, and my husband and I have received many signs from my dog that his soul is and well, and there is an afterlife. --Last night I was missing Patrick terribly. I had a good cry, then pulled myself together. I miss his physical 'fur suit', but I know that he still exists. Every day I speak to him, and I'm getting scent signs now that my husband is also experiencing. Before going to sleep I said Brent's protection prayer (which I say daily), then I said the 'permission request' (also practiced daily), and asked him to come to me in my dream that night and allow me to see him in a way that I can understand. Well, last night he came to me in my dream in vivid, bright colors. He looked younger and very healthy. No limping. Running around the house, and walking up to me and gazing into my eyes. It was intense. I am so happy about this. I have received many signs, but this was then best so far. I really felt him with me - a soul to soul connection. All of Brent's techniques work, but you need to say the words as written without ad libbing. I hope this gives you the motivation to try these techniques. They work!

Her passing was sudden and unexpected and very devastating to me. I cried for days, so stricken with guilt and grief, that I did not know how to cope with the loss of my baby. In hope to find some help, I started to search you tube videos and thats how I found Brent Atwater. Her books gave me hope when I felt so sad and lonely that I thought I'm not able to go on. I learned that my pet is live and well, and using Brent's techniques I was able to connect with my little girl realizing that I have not lost her at all. This book will change your life and, it will help you to get through the loss if your pet when you think that no one knows how painful and heartbroken you are.

I returned from the City about three o'clock on that May afternoon pretty well disgusted with life. I had been three months in the Old Country, and was fed up with it. If anyone had told me a year ago that I would have been feeling like that I should have laughed at him; but there was the fact. The weather made me liverish, the talk of the ordinary Englishman made me sick. I couldn't get enough exercise, and the amusements of London seemed as flat as soda-water that has been standing in the sun. 'Richard Hannay,' I kept telling myself, 'you have got into the wrong ditch, my friend, and you had better climb out.'

He had left Scotland at age six to work and find a small fortune in South Africa. Hannay was tired and bored after a month in London. At his flat a neighbor asked to speak to him in private, and asked for help. This stranger told of his travels in the Balkans and the things he learned about those who stirred up a revolution. Its all due to a conspiracy (money can be made on a falling market). But now Franklin P. Scudder knows too much to be allowed to live. An important foreign leader will visit London. He will be murdered by an Austrian and the evidence will point to Vienna and Berlin. Scudder told how he faked his own death! Hannay believed him, and sheltered him for days. When Hannay returned to his flat he found Scudder stabbed dead. Hannay now believes Scudder's story to be true. But Hannay will either be the next target or be charged and convicted for the murder. Life is no longer dull.Hannay took steps to disguise himself and disappear. He found Scudder's notebook and tried to decipher its coded entries. Hannay must evade the police search and those seeking to kill him. The chapters tell of his flight and the events of his capture by the killers and escape. Buchan describes the country and the characters Hannay met. Some of the words are obscure ("burnside"). Hannay finally meets Sir Walter and learns more. The police will no longer be an inconvenience. There is a new surprise when Hannay returns to Sir Walter's London mansion. Hannay figures out who is the spy, and his method. The next step is to intercept and stop him before he leaves England with the secret information. Of course this story has a happy ending. The 1930s film by Alfred Hitchcock changed very many of the details of this story, so the novel will be fresh and interesting to a reader. Note how a person can simply disguise himself by a complete change of clothes and hat. Dashiell Hammett also mentioned this in his "Red Harvest". People remember clothing better than a face.

Foster I thoroughly enjoyed this story and, in fact, connected with the characters such that I really, really wanted to know what happened. As someone who has ridden a bicycle across the US, and ridden several parts of the "Trans Am" on which this story unfolds, I found the bike culture and other bicycling references very enjoyable. Loved the characters, the story and the twists. Well done.

Crownover Although I know little about the Northwest and even less about biking, this book held me from the opening pages until the satisfying end. The mystery aspect of this book was skillfully woven into the story, making it hard to put down. Looking forward to reading other books by this author.

How the author gets you from point B to point E is the ride (all puns intended), and I thoroughly enjoyed this ride. Learned some things on a subject I knew absolutely nothing about and enjoyed the multi character twists and turns. I look forward to reading his next book

Quite frankly I find them not be that interesting and they tend to bore me. That is why when my friend recommended this one to me it took me a while to even attempt to read it. When I finally sat down and started to read. I finally realized why my friend was raving so much about this story. Have to say that the story was very interesting and the way it was presented kept me intrigued from beginning to end. Therefore, give it a try and you never know you may end up liking it.

It seemed to be a fresh of breath air to me in a way when really delving in here as I was astonished at what I would have missed By Levi My dad's more into westerns then I am whether it comes to books or movies but when it came this book I couldn't help but pay attention due to the well drawn out story behind all the action depicted. It seemed to be a fresh of breath air to me in a way when really delving in here as I was astonished at what I would have missed out on if I had just figured it be just like any other generic story.

By Richard Evans I have a lot of friends who are native Americans and I have always loved old westerns and cowboys versus indian shooters. As I read this last night I felt like I was in the stirrups riding through the old wild west, right next to the characters in the book. The imagery in this book took me into a whole different world and I totally lost myself in it with all of the great action scenes

Sam's dad's job has them moving frequently. While Sam has learned to adjust and makes friends quickly, it's hard to leave relationships behind over and over. When the Cooper family visits a local church, Sam meets two boys who seem to know how to find all the excitement. Tony's dad owns the marina and Tyler is Tony's sidekick. After getting all three boys free scuba lessons, Tony borrows one of his dad's boats so he and his friends can do some real scuba diving. The boys learn a lot about themselves as well as a few secrets of the island that someone else wants kept secret.Growing up I loved reading Hardy Boys (preferred them over Nancy Drew) and this reminded me of a Christian contemporary version of Hardy Boys. There is definitely action, adventure and suspense for both boys and girls 8-12 years.

His dad is a research biologist, which means that they move a lot. In the beginning of the book, they see a news article about a drug raid only three blocks from their house, which makes Sam think that maybe their NEW move to Harper's Inlet (a town north of Miami) is going to be a GOOD idea.On the drive to their new home, Sam overhears a conversation at a rest stop which puzzles him, a snippet about "running boats with shark's teeth and blood". He is put off by the appearance of the man holding the conversation, and "almost" tells his parents about it, but decides not to.Once they're settled in, Sam meets some new boys in Sunday school: Tyler and Tony. Tony's dad owns the marina, where he rents boats and runs a scuba diving school. When Tony's dad offers free lessons to Tony and two of his friends, Sam persuades his parents to let him attend. As Sam's friendship with these two develops, he realizes that he has some misgivings about Tony. Tony is rather brash and arrogant, and likes to take chances, which gives Sam the feeling that he can't trust him. This feeling only intensifies when Tony tries to talk the other two into a solo scuba diving trip, which Sam knows his parents would not allow. Despite his misgivings, he allows himself to be talked into it, and he heads off into what will be a dangerous adventure. The theme of drug running flows through this book, as does the theme of family. Sam's family is very supportive, doing simple things such as taking their meals together (his friends tell him he's lucky). Sam's struggles with some of his decisions, going against his first inclination just to fit in, and we see how peer pressure can easily be succumbed to, and also how doing what you know is right is better than going along.Parents: This is a wholesome book that boys will relate to and enjoy. The lessons that are included as part of this adventure are fully integrated into the story, unlike many books where we see a "preachy" sort of lesson which just pops up out of nowhere. Bebe Boy James and I discuss chapters as we go along, and some of his remarks were: "I'D want to get rid of all of the drug dealers, too!" and "If you know it's wrong, you shouldn't let someone else talk you into it".We enjoyed it, and James was so caught up once the boys got in their fix that we ended up reading past our planned reading time just so he could find out what happened.QUOTESHe had never made friends this fast before, and nowhere in the rest of the United States, not in all the places he had lived before, had he ever been friends with someone like Tony."Mom and I do lots of things for special reasons. That's because we only get one shot at being your parents and showing you what we think is important. Right now, you're one of the most important things in our lives.""We need to go down for a better look," Sam said."You mean you need to," Tony said. "I need to stay right here.""Yeah," Tyler added. "My mom would want me to hide behind this log; I know she would."Writing: 3.5 out of 5 starsPlot: 4 out of 5 starsCharacters: 3.5 out of 5 starsReading Immersion: 4 out 5 starsBOOK RATING: 3.75 out of 5 stars

My favorite parts are:#1 The high speed chase when Sam, Tyler and Tony are chased by the men in large black coats.#2 The deadly storm when the boat rips in two.#3 When Sam, Tyler and Tony wash up on Lost Island.#4 When Sam, Tyler and Tony take a ride in the submarine. The pictures are awesome and give me a good view of the things in Lost Island Smugglers. I will tell all my friends about it.Peyton

Locus Recommended ReadingWhen Taggert's adopted daughter goes missing he suspects the hand of an old enemy. He gathers friends, family, and even those who don't quite trust that he has left his violent past behind. But their search leads them to an unexpected place, the past, and the consequences of their journey have a price that is higher than they can afford.Praise for The Liminal People:"A great piece of genre fiction. But picking which genre to place it in isn't easy. The first in a planned series, it's got the twists and taut pacing of a thriller, the world-warping expansiveness of a fantasy yarn, and even the love-as-redemption arc of a romance. Oh yeah, a lot of the characters in it have superhuman powers, too."—The Rumpus"Ayize's imagination will mess with yours, and the world won't ever look quite the same again."—Nalo Hopkinson"An action-packed thriller and a careful look at the moral dilemmas of those whose powers transcend humanity."—Publishers WeeklyThe enigmatic quagmire that is Ayize Jama-Everett has been making his presence felt all across this world since 1974. In New York, California, Morocco, Ethiopia, and elsewhere, he has impressed, reviled, and astonished with his amazing feats of mental alacrity and mystical inebriation. Despite being degreed in both divinity and psychology, the forlorn artist stakes his reputation and honor on the calling of author. He is known to be cunning in the ways of the bottle, the pen, and the pistol.

The Liminal War: a novel, by Ayize Jama-Everett

Review Locus Recommended Reading List"The Liminal War bounces between scenes of high-octane, superpowered battles, and surprisingly low-key interludes. The entire middle of the novel follows Taggert, Tamara, and Mico, the high priest of the mannah, as they travel back in time to 1971 so that Mico can jam with a young Bob Marley. Music, in fact, has tremendous power in this story, and the final confrontation with Nardeen is powered by the music of Robert Johnson, whom the group meet in 1938 in the book's final third.... Books like The Liminal War and The Entropy of Bones won't make up for the fact that the dominant genre of our pop culture is so completely wedded to the past and the status quo, but they point the way to how that might—if we embrace change and creativity—someday change."— Strange Horizons"In Ayize Jama-Everett’s The Liminal War, the family one chooses is just as important as the one a person is born into. Taggert is a “Liminal,” a being who can manipulate human molecules and DNA, allowing him to both harm and heal. When his adopted daughter is kidnapped by his psychotic former mentor, Taggert will rent the fabric of time and space to make sure his daughter is found before his former master can twist her mind. While there are forces stronger than Liminals bent on stopping Taggert and his friends — a pot-smoking god and a musician who takes him back to 1970s London — they may be outmatched by Taggert’s biological daughter, Tamara, who will risk her own life to save her sister’s."— Nancy Hightower, Washington Post"Like Ursula K. Le Guin and Octavia Butler before him, Jama-Everett has a knack for braiding issues of spirituality and race throughout a compelling fantasy landscape."— Leilani Clark, KQED"It’s been a long wait since Jama-Everett’s 2009 debut, The Liminal People, but the same raw wattage that lit up healer/killer Taggert’s epic introduction to his daughter, Tamara, and his split with his sociopathic mentor, Nordeen, is at work in this rich, dense sequel. This episode opens with a characteristic blast of pure psychic chaos from Tamara, who’s discovered that Prentis, a child Taggert calls “mine by choice,” has disappeared from the sensory realm commanded by superpowered liminals like Taggert’s family. Taggert’s sure that Prentis isn’t dead, but beyond that he’s stumped. His lover, Samantha, guides him to the Rasta-tinged commune of London’s Eel Pie Island, where he encounters the avatar of a four-billion-year-old vegetable god who allies with him in the search. And that’s just the first 30 pages. Jama-Everett writes with such cyclonic energy and verbal legerdemain that occasionally the plot has to be taken on faith, but the noir-infused verve of the telling makes it all work."— Publishers Weekly"A scrappy group of people with superpowers who careen through a criminal underground, the space-time continuum, and frequently outrageous battles to rescue a young woman who's gone missing. Taggert, a former criminal, can "read bodies" and manipulate them on a molecular level. He's lying low in London, working a shadowy business of healing people with terminal diseases and keeping an eye on his teenage daughter, Tamara, and adopted daughter, Prentis. Both Tamara and Prentis are also "liminals"—people with supernatural abilities—and survivors of Taggert's criminal past. When Prentis vanishes from the planet, invisible even to Tamara's powerful telepathy, Taggert and Tamara set out to look for her. They find themselves thrown into alliances with legendary musicians and the worshipers of a strange god and pitted against viciously ruthless nonhuman entities called "alters." The plot moves swiftly, cramming incident after incident into a novel that seems surprisingly slim for this breed of action-adventure. . . . An engaging sequel that sets its likable cast of characters against a fast-paced sequence of dangers."— Kirkus Reviews "The Liminal War did something I thought was impossible. It was even better than its predecessor, which knocked my socks off when I read it last year. Science fiction and fantasy fans, run—don’t walk—to go read Ayize Jama-Everett’s Liminal series."— A Bookish Type"The Liminal War is thus rich in action and meaning that is impressive for its short length. . . . an effective and remarkable novel . . . I really look forward to the next entry in this series, the further growth of its characters and its textured layers of Black culture and history."— Skiffy and Fanty

Wonderful read - looking forward to the next book By Cheryl Montgomery-Nolan The Liminal War is a very fast-paced alternate reality tale based upon the universal balance of power. Forces against each other from the dawn of time wage war for supremacy. Allegiances are in flux as the psychically gifted combatants attempt to end the conflict. Following orders is difficult for those who see loss of humanity as the outcome. Family ties become pivotal in an increasingly improbable victory for mankind. Wonderful read - looking forward to the next book!

A Fantastic Second Act By Amazon Customer On first read I definitely enjoyed this novel—which, like its predecessor The Liminal People reads like an action-filled afro sci-fi thriller. However a few weeks after finishing and moving on to the next books on my list I found myself in the midst of a very powerful psychedelic experience thinking a lot about this piece of literature. The obvious theme of a fungus-based omniscient deity who possesses its disciples when smoked certainly played a role, but even deeper were the connections to themes of the power of the Ancestors of those of us who have inherited the genetic trauma of those who made (or didn't complete) the journey across the Middle Passage, and the reality of their individual humanity (a point that echoes some central themes in Ta-Nehisi Coates' recent work of art Between The World And Me), as well as the cosmic oneness that can be experienced through truly sublime musical works. Where the first Liminal novel focuses on setting the foundational rules and physics/biology of the Liminal world in order to drive the action of the plot, The Liminal War smashes those expectations by expanding out into the realms of the spiritual and the cosmic. With a cliffhanger that is sure to drive all fans of Jama-Everett's series insane with anticipation, The Liminal War is a fantastic second act to this engaging, thought-provoking series.

Jama-Everett puts you into his world immediately from the first page. Like his first book the characters, their abilities, and the world they inhabit are really authentic.A relatively short read, the pace stays high the whole time. Looking forward to reading the third book!Keep them coming!

The plot and settings are well developed, though the scope and timeframe seem more suited to a longer work. This short story could serve as a chapter outline for a novel. Two kids alone against the wilderness - with a lot more fleshing out and detailing, it could potentially be another Gary Paulsen or Will Hobbs. Because it's told in the first person, the voice in which it's told seems about right for the main character. I'd like to see more interaction between the two characters, especially dialogue, and much more "show" and less "tell." All in all, a well thought out story here, with lots of potential for expansion. - Ken Wallin, author of Falling to Eden and Passport to Adventure.
