Follow Nicky through his highs and lows, and heartbreak and see how he deals with some of the things that normal fifteen year old boys wouldn't and shouldn't have to deal with.

Now you can really get to know Nicholas, Chalice, Lidia, and Nicky and found out more about the family business. This book here made you laugh with all the antics that Nicky and Lidee did to their step mother Chalice. The book made you cry and your heart broke for Nicky and Treva. The book makes you love the Joneses when they come together as a family and there were no more secrets.

In mentoring young leaders as the president of Catalyst and in other leadership spheres, Brad Lomenick knows that the patterns we cultivate matter. He lays out twenty of these habits in H3: Leadership, sharing the personal and professional successes and failures he's experienced, as well as providing examples from others. The book is divided into three sections (humble, hungry, and hustle, as the sub-title suggests). Personally, my favorite chapters were both in the "hungry" section: "A Habit of Curiosity" which encourages readers to keep learning, and "A Habit of Innovation" which focuses on staying current, creative, and engaged. The book is easy to read, helpful, and succinct - a perfect book from which to read a chapter or two on your lunch break - and it's providing a lot of clarity to me as I prepare to walk into my next season of leadership. I particularly liked the collaborative feel to H3: Leadership. Each chapter concludes with some commentary by other influential leaders. This is a book to buy in bulk - one for you, one for each leader on your team, and one for each of the up-and-coming leaders in your life.

By Jon Becker Seventeen years ago, my friend Judy handed me John Maxwell's classic book, "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" As a fledgling leader eager to grow and learn, this was like pouring cold, refreshing water on a thirsty plant. I devoured the book in a day and have referred back to it countless times in my quest to continue to grow and develop as a leader. I have read numerous books about leadership, taking away valuable insights and teachings from each one."H3 Leadership" is the first book I have read in those ensuing years that approaches Maxwell's "21 Laws" in terms of the sheer volume of valuable content, wisdom, and practical application to the gift of leadership. Written by Brad Lomenick, the founder and former president of "Catalyst," this book has the potential to achieve the same level of respect and become a must read for all leaders as any of Maxwell's numerous books on the subject."H3" looks at three simple questions:Who are you? (Be Humble);Where are you going? (Stay Hungry), and;How will you get there? (Always Hustle).Lomenick examines each of these category questions through the lens of 6-7 different habits that effective leaders must develop if they want to reach their full potential. By Thomas McMillan Jr. Vulnerable is the word that comes to mind when I think about the story expressed on the pages in H3 Leadership. From the start, I could relate to the story that Brad shares in this book and the importance of being intentional about being a leader through the practice of habitual work. I've seen Brad from afar for several years as I've attended Catalyst, the leadership movement he stewarded for a better part of a decade. I actually remember when he announced on the main stage that he'd be taking a sabbatical...little did I know that I'd get to read more about his story and get greater insight into the leadership lessons he gained as he took time away and planned out his leadership legacy for his next 30 years. Brad Lomenick spells out 20 habits essential for leaders...a great roadmap to put into place. If you've ever grown stale in your leadership or are looking to give your leadership a "boost", order a copy of H3 Leadership and put these habits into practice. You'll be glad you did.

Have you ever wondered how you could feel so empty and what if anything you could do to change it. This book will take you on a journey that will show you how to become a well of refreshing water not only for yourself but for all those around you. Karen Schatzline has done a wonderful job teaching us how to turn our pits into wells of life giving water for all. A must read!

By Andy and Cathy Sanders Karen Schatzline takes you on a journey; one that both exposes her past pain and shows how our God is not only faithful, but He can take your dry, thirsty soul and fill it to overflowing. Although the main storyline focuses on the woman at the well, I especially love the perspective that she brings out about the healing of Jairus' daughter in chapter 6. On the way to Jairus' house Jesus stops to heal someone else, and right then is when he got word that his daughter had died. Karen points out how it could have looked like everyone else was getting their miracle except for him, but Jesus reassured him to not be afraid but to believe. Then Jesus spoke life into that which was dead. If you are dry and praying for a breakthrough in your life, I highly recommend this book to you. Find the faith, hope, and strength to believe that God will bring you out of the desert and into times of refreshing!

The #1 Book any Deacon needs, aspiring or already ordained By TJ Burdick The Heart of the Diaconate is the first book any aspiring, or current, Permanent Deacon should have in their personal library. Deacon James Keating, Ph.D., has composed a classic in the spirituality of the diaconate in this concise, but very profound read.This book is a lot like Keating’s previous book, The Deacon’s Retreat, in that it focuses on the interior life of the Deacon and how important this interiority is to his outward ministry. The difference, however, is what makes the book a must-have, namely that it has a preferential focus on the formation of aspiring Deacons and those who are in formation. While it doesn’t ignore the currently ordained Deacons by any means, there is special attention given to those who are experiencing the first whispers of the call to ordination.Keating’s pen strokes mold the aspirant as a spiritual director would into the deeper echelons of discernment:“To discern a diaconal vocation is to distinguish between the attraction to ‘help out’ around the parish and the weighty invitation from Christ: ‘Will you allow me to live my servant mysteries over again in your own flesh?’ Does one want to be a man who is living Christ’s own servant mysteries? This is the central question of discernment.”Dr. Keating wastes no words by warning the aspirant that the journey he is embarking upon will not be easy. He asks, “Can a man who wants to aspire to Holy Orders withstand the fire of receiving God’s love and live to tell about it?” Certainly whoever picks up these pages and reads them with an open spirit to God’s call will be confronted with the realities and sacrifices that such a call requires.What particularly caught my attention was his desire to see diaconal vocations come from younger generations. Under Canon Law, men are eligible to receive the sacrament of diaconal ordination after the age of 35. Keating’s hope is that at this age, God will not only call young Deacons, but that dioceses would be able to form them well. When speaking about spousal attendance for aspiring Deacons he argues that “Encouraging but not mandating spousal attendance leaves more room for younger couples to come forward and thereby enliven the diaconate in the diocese with not simply the wisdom of age but the vibrancy of youth.”If you or someone you know has felt the call to become a Permanent Deacon but are unsure as to how to go about discerning, this book should be the first that they read. It will guide him deeper into the Heart of the Diaconate, as printed on the cover of the book and in the depths of the soul of he who reads it.

By DF This is a wonderful book that should be read by all deacons and men discerning whether they are called to diaconate ministry. I found it to be very thought-provoking and inspiring. The author focuses on the greater importance of the spiritual life of the deacon, his intimate relationship with the HolyTrinity, over what the deacon "does" in the parish where he serves. This is something that those of us already ordained need to be reminded of from time to time, because we can lose sight of this in the daily struggle to balance our responsibilities to family, work, and ministry.

I wanted to read To Kill a Mockingbird to get a good understand of where Matt was coming from but really By Free-Bird Reviews I did not realize when I saw this that it had so much to do with the book To Kill a Mockingbird. It was apropos since my family’s book club had decided on reading Harper Lee’s books this month.Upon starting I had not read To Kill a Mockingbird and put this on hold until I finished. Although that was not necessary since Matt Rawle gives a synopsis, and in some cases talks a bit more in depth about the book. I wanted to read To Kill a Mockingbird to get a good understand of where Matt was coming from but really, it is not required.Many of his chapters have to do with the characters and plot of the story but the main plot of this book is about loving one another. Matt Rawle constantly goes back to biblical passages to remind us what love is and how we can use the ideas of TKAMB and put them into our own lives.For those on the blog it is known that I am a new christian. I am not one that goes around professing my feelings but I do try to follow in Jesus’s footsteps. Or Mother Theresa’s, Buddha’s, etc. The people who really made a loving difference in this world are the ones that I look to for what to do. Matt is able to take the things that happened in the Jim Crowe times and adjust them to our beliefs and ideals of today in a Godly way.Jesus’s main idea while he walked this earth was one of peace and love so it saddens me to see so much violence today. TKAMB sheds some light on why the violence is prevalent but Matt Rawle is able to bring it all back around to biblical sense; to shed light on the problems and how to fix them within ourselves.In short: This is an amazing book. Even if I were not a Christian I would want to read this. The ideas are biblical but the message is transcendent. The message is clear if only we would open our minds to really listen.Received from publisher for an honest review.

If using for a class, read ToKill A Mockingbird prior to the study of this book.

An interesting journey to a new world By LadyErynn When a signal beacon on the planet Actaeon suddenly goes silent, Bernard Limited sends their best agent to investigate. But Nolan’s adventure begins long before he reaches the junction as he battles a radiation storm, living hallucinations, and an abandoned junction. As he looked for the missing crew, he discovers a secret so horrible that it may change his life forever.This is a story full or potential, but it needs some work done before that potential is achieved. Some good points are that the plot is unique, the characters are fairly fleshed out, and the setting a well described. The dialogue does a decent job of moving the story along, and the story does a good job of piquing your interest.The thing that I had trouble with is the structure of the story. Some of the sentences were worded a bit strangely, and that can pull the reader out of the illusion. (For example: I saw the smoke begin to fill sinuously the compartment, it was becoming increasingly dense).Despite the flaws​, I think Actaeon is a wonderful addition to Science Fiction, and I can see it becoming a beloved story in no time!

By Marci Mecagni I hate reading but when I come across a really good book, I cant put it down. This book would be an awesome Valentine's day for the hubby. If I were you I would then steal it from your husband and read it. Expecially if you were ever an athlete and it has a love story twisted in there. The ending, now you cant wait to get to the ending Awesome and Shocking all at once. Take the chance you wont be disappointed in this book and I cant wait for the next book. It will be hard to beat.

I read this book because I know who Jim is through family. I was not sure I would like it because it is about boxing which I don't care fore, but it was written so well that I really enjoyed it.I would recommend this book to anyone. Great job Jim. I look forward to reading your next book.

The first laughs are on the first page, and Bingham mixes social commentary (like, the CIA has limited the Mob's contribution to foreign policy to money laundering, providing prostitutes for visiting diplomats, and importing drugs from anti-communist dictators) with very visual and funny slapstick humor. Really worth reading.

Currently the best commentary on Revelation available By David deSilva And I'm resigned to the fact that Koester's will STILL be the best available after my own is completed and in print. :)Readers will find here a commentary that is thoroughly informed by the archaeological and epigraphic evidence from the cities of western Asia Minor, close study of intertexture between Revelation and the various resources which have gone in some way into its formation (Hebrew Bible, Second Temple Jewish literature, particularly apocalyptic literature, emerging Christian traditions, and Roman imperial ideology), thoughtful consideration of how Greco-Roman texts inform our understanding of Revelation, and the application of the well-honed exegetical skills and instincts manifested in Koester's earlier commentaries (I think especially of his excellent contribution on Hebrews to this same series). Perhaps needless to say, this is a commentary written from the point of view that John's seven churches really mattered to him from start to finish -- not a treatment of Revelation that assumes that Rev 4:1ff. was written for an audience two millennia removed. While I continue to appreciate the commentaries by Aune, Beale, and Osborne, especially, THIS is the commentary I have been waiting for both for my own consumption and my class on Revelation.I am delighted to find Koester's magisterial commentary now available in paperback! This was released in hardcover in 2014, but the price tag made it prohibitive to use as a required textbook for my course on Exegesis of Revelation. At the paperback price, it's still a bit steep, but well worth it for the quality of coverage that Koester brings to the text.

So far it is very well done, not too formal yet detailed enough for understanding some of the more difficult passages. A fairly quick easy read, but very informative By Karen A lot of the big thick books that you pay $10-$15 for seem to have extra words that seem to be used only to make the book appear thicker. And that's not to say they don't contain useful information. Sometimes the information is difficult to locate. This book however was organized very well. It was full of information that can be put to use right away. I highly recommend this book and intend to look at others by this author.

I just bought my first blank book from a Wiccan online shop, to use as a Book of Shadows, and then, in checking my order, ran across an e-mail from a Wiccan website I belong to, which allows members to review e-books for free, and this is the first book on my list! I guess you might say, Goddess works in strange, and magickal ways.Wicca Book of Shadows, by Lisa Chamberlain, is a fast read, easy to understand, and yet full of good information. It covers the history of the Book of Shadows, from the time of the ancient Grimoires of Magick, to the coining of the word by Gardner, up to the technological age of computers and phone apps. Lisa Chamberlain clearly explains what goes into a Book of Shadows, what types of books to use, resources available, even types of paper and whether to use quills and ink, a calligraphy pen, or even crayons and markers, depending on how elaborate you want to make it, and how talented you are as an artist. She also discusses the pros and cons of using technology, and whether it is best to make a choice between handmade/handwritten, or computerized, or a combination of both. She even includes a short protection spell to protect your Book of Shadows from unwelcome observers, while allowing those you choose to share it with...and a list of some of the arcane ways you can confuse other people from reading it in the first place, such as magickal alphabets such as Theban, for example, numerology, sigils, etc. But, with this being a very basic beginner's book, she didn't go into much detail about the many arcane alphabets, but really, with the internet, if people are really interested, they can find out more about that online.I highly recommend this book for any beginning Wiccan, witch, or pagan who is interested in having their own Book of Shadows. And, I am looking forward to creating my own.

Other than that, this is a really interesting book which unfolds into an amazing story of...well, life - love, pain, healing, redemption, and the hard choices we must all make (although Mike's choices are harder than most). If you like crime fiction, this story is for you. If you like Florida, this story is for you. If you just like a really good book, then this story is for you.

The last part was about love, life choices, suspense and pain. It was the middle that made this book one of the most surprising I have read. Just when I thought I had it figured out everything changed. A creative and imaginative plot that will hold your attention to the end. Can't wait for the sequel.
