The future of an orbiting space colony is threatened by a fugitive and the assassin on her trail in this science fiction adventure from three-time Hugo Award winner Allen Steele Skycorp has always expected the near-Earth space colony Clarke County to serve as a cash cow, bringing the corporate behemoth a substantial return on its investment through food production and tourism. Now that the Church of Elvis is planning a major revival meeting on the colony, the execs anticipate that the devout and the curious alike will be rocketing to Clarke County in droves. Its residents, however, would prefer to be left alone, and there has even been some dangerous talk of freedom and independence from Earth.   It’s Sheriff John Bigthorn’s job to keep the peace on the colony, but his work may prove more difficult than usual in the upcoming days—especially following the unexpected arrival of a frightened young woman carrying money and important data she’s stolen from her gangster ex-boyfriend. With an ice-cold assassin called the Golem on the runaway’s tail, the holy “Living Elvis” stirring up the faithful, and revolution in the wind, Bigthorn will have to lay off the peyote and stay particularly sharp if he hopes to prevent total chaos and bloodshed . . . and perhaps even save his floating artificial world.

From Library Journal Sheriff John Bigthorn's job of keeping the peace on "Clarke County," Earth's first orbiting space colony, seems simple enough--until a frantic young woman fleeing her gangster boyfriend seeks refuge there, bringing with her a secret that holds the key to the colony's destruction or liberation. The author of Orbital Decay (Ace, 1989) combines satire with suspense in this fast-paced adventure that belongs in most sf collections.Copyright 1990 Reed Business Information, Inc.

As it happens, the colonists have apparently named it after Arthur C. - if you're skimming through the book, you'd miss the brief mention of his statue. That said, yes, the rest of the plot does have more to do with Heinlein's books than Clarke's. It's a rousing story, plenty of action, several connected threads. I *would* recommend reading "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" by Heinlein before you read this, especially to refresh your memory of Mycroft. The Church of Elvis provides a lot of the fun - but so does Blind Boy Grunt. Even the more serious characters have their moments of fun. Police chief Bigthorn, of Native American ancestry, has a sense of humor, even when he's being almost blown up. We also have some villains we can enjoy - heartless lawyers representing soulless corporations, that sort of thing, that we can unabashedly revile. A hired killer code-named the Golem, complete with an explanation of the original Golem and some scary insight into the assassin's psychology. The only disappointment in the book is the very end - involving Simon McCoy. I thought this particular bit of explanation to be rather out-of-nowhere and arbitrary. Works as a plot device, but not as a plot or a character, in my opinion. However, it's quite possible to just ignore that part.If what you know of Allen Steele is his more recent Coyote series, you will find this book to be both similar and different. There's some of the same questions of exactly what constitutes patriotism, and when is it correct to decide that one's patriotism should be devoted to creating a new country. There are also the same Heinleinian issues of figuring out what it takes to be self-sufficient, and how big a political/geographical entity do you need to have to be self-sufficient. (Steele poses these questions in the spirit of Heinlein, but the answers to these questions are not the same as Heinlein's.) There is more humor in this book than in the Coyote series, rather less time spent on assorted military preparations. All in all, while not a complete masterpiece - it's a little too lightweight for that - it is a worthwhile, fun, read, and gets five stars for being accessible, funny, not as politically strident as some books in the same vein, and having lots of in-jokes for science fiction fans.

I like his tributes to the greats and his nostaligic treatment of current scifi, "the good old days of Captain Kirk." The Elvis Cult is a riot.

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Good, but not science fiction By Ahmed Rizk Tis is an action/gangster story set in outer space. The setting could well take place in any small or isolated town, not necessarily a space colony. The bernal sphere has been introduced before to SF literature in "Rendevouz with Rama". apart from that, there are no new ideas or concepts. It is a good read though. The author has a talent in description and drawing characters and the events are fast paced. What I mind the most is that the cover illustration got the shape of the supposedly Bernal sphere wrong and really spoiled the way I tried to imagine it.

This book offers so much spiritual insight on how to live the life God meant for us to live. I love the specific steps that are easy to follow and understand. It is a book that one can refer to for the rest of their lives. It's a guide on how to live that uses the Bible as a point of reference, but it's not religious. It teaches you how to handle negative feelings and emotions.

Its fast pace, interesting characters and intelligent storytelling kept me intrigued and turning the pages chapter after chapter. The concept of our society and the world as a whole "dying" of thirst is frightening, but believable. Climate change, global warming, call it what you will, but it has impacted our planet. I liked the way the author interplayed Mother Nature and religion, greed and the human spirit to tell the story. It reminded me a bit of The Poisonwood Bible. I highly recommend this novel.

Thought-provoking and fast-paced read By Nick Wilford I was hooked by JK Ullrich's "cli-fi" novel, which takes an all too plausible premise and carves out a gripping story. It's a simple but terrifying concept - water is something we all need (and take for granted), but it is a finite resource. What happens when it starts running out? Actually, we don't all take it for granted as a large proportion of the world don't have access to fresh water, and in Blue Karma this has extended to North America. What I loved about this book is that while it had a lot of things to think about, it doesn't take a heavy-handed or preachy tone. It's a story, first and foremost, not a treatise. Ullrich gave us a great cast of characters to root for and, in other cases, despise. Logan, in particular, got much more likeable as the book went on - from at first appearing to be nothing more than an irresponsible kid, he grows into someone who is willing to put his life on the line for those he cares about. Paul's trajectory was, in a way, parallel to his, although he starts from an opposite position - the pampered, privileged heir to the most powerful water company in the world, he comes to see what life is like for those who have nothing. Amaya was likeable - a tough and quick-witted girl who is terrified of letting her guard down, but the greatest growth belonged to Sayuri. With a heartbreaking backstory, she seems at times in danger of being completely overwhelmed by events, but comes out the other end. There were many fascinating ideas in this book, and the role that religion played was particularly intriguing, with idealistic dreamers being pitted against cynical company tycoons. I hope there will be a sequel, but if not, I look forward to other books from Ullrich.

Water is crucial for survival and its absence can contribute to feelings of anger, greed and depression. But what about extreme amounts of water? As many of us know, too much water can be destructive and deadly to just about everything on Earth.Amaya is a typhoon survivor. As I read her story, I couldn't help but admire her. During the storm she loses everything - her home, and most of her family. Amaya, just a teen herself, takes her younger sister and flees. Survival isn't easy. There are hundreds of homeless people, all struggling to survive. Because of the severe shortage of fresh water, Amaya does everything possible to survive even if it involves ice poaching. I admired her determination and incredible will to survive under these extraordinary conditions. The water shortage brings about ice poachers. Breaking icebergs and melting them to produce fresh water becomes a way to survive for many, but it also becomes a big business. Nilak, a large company with a contract to harvest ice, produces fresh water from the bergs and sells it to those who can afford to pay. Therefore, the poachers are a nuisance to Nilak.Amaya meets Logan. Logan is a military deserter whose job is to guard the arctic from poachers. Logan and Amaya are caught up in one scandal after another to protect Logan's hometown with hopes of building a new life there. This is a fast-paced, action-packed story. Amaya and Logan take readers on a spiraling journey of intense emotions. I was able to feel the compassion they have for one another while struggling to survive. I could also feel their frustration and hate for the bullies who set road blocks for them along the way. Blue Karma is a story of love, deceit, and manipulation. Will Karma win in the end? I recommend reading this book to find out.Review by Monica McDaniel for eBook Review GaleBook Review Gal received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

By Zazzy Like so many other fans, I eagerly anticipated the finale installment of Richard Paul Evans "The Walk" series, "Walking on Water". After traveling vicariously through Alan's eyes for the last 4 years I was almost sad to see the adventure end as I counted the days to May 6th , anxiously intrigued to read the conclusion. If ever there was a roller coaster road of life, Alan Christoffersen has traveled it. Snagged and tripped up by various speed bumps along the way, he is encouraged and challenged by the stories of those he has met traversing from Seattle, WA to Key West, FL. This book concludes that emotional sojourn and I can honestly say it was so worth the wait. So close yet so far, this chapter begins with him traveling back to his boyhood home in Pasadena, CA. to be near his ailing father. Alan learns more about his family and his past then he ever thought possible and through turmoil realizes what a gift that knowledge is. One of my favorite lines in the book comes from a chess analogy from his father: "The past makes a good bishop but a poor king". To figure out what it means, one must read the book. :-) Good friends and old friends rallied around him once more. Love slips through his fingers through no fault of his own and he returns to the last leg of his quest alone. Traveling though Florida, Alan meets some interesting characters including two "sirens" and a group of brew drinking men who try to convince him that he needs to give up his past memories as to them it only brings pain. A tunnel visioned religious fanatic tries to persuade Alan that his "Church" is the only saving way to God and Alan brilliantly refutes the man's arguments. He continues on to hopefully complete the mission he started and what he discovers at the end brought me to tears. Actually, most of the book is tear-worthy and profoundly heart moving. After running the gamut of emotions while reading this book, I am anxious to read it again. A Reading Group Guide at the end of the Kindle version is a added bonus!! I will miss Alan and will treasure all that he has taught me about hope, grace and forgiveness throughout his journey. Thank you, Alan, for letting me to hitch a ride and share your experiences. This series as a whole is awesome and each book has gems of wisdom and insight. I will be recommending it to everyone. I can't wait to see what Richard Paul Evans has in store for us next!!

11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Let's Go For A Walk By Nancy Let’s go for a walk. What a great way to end this series. In the fifth and final book in the Walk Series, Alan Christoffersen is rushing back home to be with his father who has had a sudden heart attack. While staying at his family home, Alan comes across a family history that his father has been writing since Alan began his journey from Seattle to Key West.If you have been reading this series from the beginning, you know that Alan’s world was upended when his wife died suddenly, his business partner stole his clients and Alan was forced into bankruptcy. Though they are all traumatic events, if it were not for each one of them, if he had not taken that first step in a three thousand mile journey, Alan would not have found the beauty that the world offers. As Alan learns of his family history, and reaches his final destination, his world is coming together. He is saying goodbye to the most important people in his life and at the same time, saying hello to a person that he thought he had lost forever.Though Alan Christofferson is a fictional character, he offers inspiration. When his physical goal looks as if it is unattainable, he does not give up. His journey is a metaphor for hope – that one bend in the road that might give him the answer, that one thing that will explain it all and make it worthwhile. Does he find it? What he fines is his new reality, his new peace, his new meaning.Off course there are religious overtones, and undertones, but for me they were not intolerable. The Walk Series is a journal and the stories that AIan tells of his journey and the people that he meets along the way correspond with stories within the Bible. Some say that they felt that Alan was trying to compare his journey with the journey of Jesus, but that did not jump out at me. What I saw was perseverance. What I saw was the choice of giving up or moving forward.I did enjoyed taking this walk with Alan and would look forward to many more if only Richard Paul Evans would offer them.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Walking on Water Misses Mark By Lois Kullberg I just finished reading Richard Paul Evans 5th book in his Walk series called Walking on Water. I felt cheated at the end. I had paid approximately $60 for all five books over the years. Evans failed to develop the character of Falene sufficiently. With Nicole the reader knew a lot about her life and grew to love her through the many ways she made life easier for Alan. Why couldn’t he appreciate her kindness and love her more? Lots of readers have lived the role of 2nd choice spouse and it still became a happy ending. Everyone does not marry the gorgeous person of their dreams. Falene should have been the person going to the hospital with Alan. She should have been at Key West. Instead, she was a cold version of a New York model whom the reader couldn’t relate to. Romance books should have more romance (not sex) in them. The Romance between Alan and Falene was never fully developed. I’d like to see the ending rewritten to either develop the love scenes with Falene and not added as an epilog, or better yet have Alan marry Nicole for the right reasons. The reader needs to identify with the heroine. I did not want to see her dumped into another relationship with a doctor who wasn’t developed as a character at all. Evans best efforts went into the descriptions of the places he walked through, and he did this well by showing the readers about places many of us have never been to. He developed interesting situations with the people he met on his journey. I really felt the cold and the rain and the sore muscles. It was the characters he met in his adventures that made the books interesting. I doubt that I will ever start reading another series of books written by this author. Five years is too long to wait for a poorly crafted ending.

When his deep space mission goes awry, Lieutenant Jehrico Stiles crash-lands on an unknown planet. With breathable air, drinkable water, and a friendly native species, the planet seems almost utopian. The only trouble is, Stiles is starving. The planet's vegetation is toxic, and there's nothing else to eat. As his hunger grows and his body weakens, his definition of edible starts to change. He discovers that sometimes survival means doing things you would rather not - and eating things that would rather not be eaten.

As a kid I often had that conversation with my friends "what would you do if your were on a ship and is sank leaving you alone on a desert island?" and the flood of questions would follow. Would you eat a monkey? or a raw fish or even a washed up body! Well here's a modern twist on this theme. It becomes obvious where the story is going but you don't want to admit it to yourself. Then it goes there. Then is goes beyond "there". As "obvious" as it may appear it's well, well worth the read, it draws you in and then when it's over you wish it was a full blown novel, but then, are quite happy that it's not....

What I enjoyed was the simple theme. Kill or be killed. Eat or be eaten. Jack London wrote of such things. Robert B. Parker writes of such things. The call of the wild lives, in all its Darwinian glory, whether it be the Yukon, Boston or outer space. Life is a war; when you find yourself face to face with death, all "humanity," if there really is such a thing, vanishes in a heartbeat. In such moments we learn that "civilization" is a veneer not much more than one molecule thick.

The plot is very well developed and not at all predictable. The lighthearted banter between character vacillated between comic and sweet, yet not at all sappy! Very enjoyable! I enjoyed reading this book very much and can't wait for the sequal!

By carol choomack I was honored to be asked to share in the editing process of this book. I didn't know what I would find within it pages. But I can assure you this book took me on a fascinating Journey with young Thor into the past. Legends and mystical characters told by a old storyteller who lingers in the forests of Norway and Sweden come to life, leaving you at the edge of your seat. Although it is said to be of fiction, even I recognized many truths of the nomadic Viking's plight to find a place to call their own. It is a book for the hardy as descriptive details of the ravages of war are sure to turn your head. This book will capture your imagination as it spins you from the world of fantasy to reality.Brilliantly written I congratulate Ole Jorgen Rodar's weaving of this tale.

It keeps perfect balance in changing stories from old times to recent times and paints a clear picture of all the characters. Personally spoken , I got the feeling inbetween to be a watcher of the scenes, with perfect imagination of the stories pictures.Thank you Ole Jorgen Rodar for writing this thriling story. I'll read it a 3rd time and might gift myself with your 2nd book for christmas :)Gina Adam

PDF Ebook Online Faith and Wrestling: How the Role of a Wrestler Mirrors the Christian Life, by Michael Fessler

“The Bible tells us that believers are transformed by the renewing of their minds. Another way of putting this is … taking into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. This means learning how to think of all of life, including sport, from a biblical perspective. Michael Fessler’s book is drenched in Christian worldview. Those who wrestle with its truths will be richer for it. I wish that I had been able to drink from its wisdom as a young man but am grateful to be able to do so as an old(er) one.”

—Jack Spates, MDiv, Baptist Bible College & Seminary and

former head wrestling coach at Oklahoma University

“My belief has always been that wrestling is a microcosm of life. Most of the things that we are going to experience in life are going to be experienced in a wrestling career. Michael does an excellent job in paralleling the relationship between faith and wrestling. His book expresses the importance of developing the total athlete—spiritually, physically, emotionally, and socially. I look forward to the day when people (including wrestlers) from ‘every nation, tribe, people and language’ will gather to worship our God. (Revelation 7:9, 11).”

—Gene Davis, director of wrestling at Athletes in Action and

bronze medalist in the 1976 Olympic Games

“Michael Fessler concisely captures the heart of a Christian wrestler pursuing God’s glory. The book is captivating in combining biblical truths with real-life stories. You will be encouraged and inspired to think about the gospel as greater than athletic glory as Fessler explains the biblical basis for competing. Just as Fessler’s approach to use wrestling as a tool for the gospel, we at Athletes in Action use the sport of wrestling to share the gospel around the world. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is passionate about their faith and the sport of wrestling.”

—Rob Bronson, International Wrestling Team coordinator at Athletes in Action

Faith comes first, then everything else in life. Wrestlers are a rare breed - a unique combination of mental toughness, incredible physical assertiveness and willingness to perform 1:1 "surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses..." with no one but themselves to rely upon. That is, of course, unless you are part of the rarest community of wrestlers - those who put their Faith in Jesus Christ and never step on the mat alone. This book explains what a genuine faith is and draws accurate correlations to one of the only sports ever referenced in the Bible - wrestling. If you have ever been associated with Wrestling, you should read this book - it is a value add proposition.

The Christian life is just like a wrestling match, it's a battle we must train hard for, and Michael does a great job of showing the reader what that battle looks like. If every wrestler could have the knowledge of this book before they get on that mat, their wrestling experience will be much better. If they apply what they learn they will push themselves harder than they ever had and it will all be for the Glory of God. I would love to see Christian wrestling coaches and athletes taking their whole team through this book. The impact would be great!

By Richard L Mitrisin I found it to be a great biblically based resource that clearly explains what the proper focus of each athlete should be. Fessler does a good job of using examples from scripture and blending them with personal experience. An exceptional resource for young wrestlers!

An oath sworn or a secret kept, which will prove the strongest? On the last battlefield against a ruthless invasion, only two soldiers of Bachar remain. Now Wylm Kanu and Onero Seon, best friends since childhood, are compelled to an unwanted adventure. On each new encounter they must determine: who can be trusted, and who is an IMPOSTER. Driven by oaths, prophecies, and the will to survive, their only constant will be certain death down every path. Staying alive will require a miracle, and staying friends may require more than that. This is the first book of the House of Kanu series and Kings of Geongalann trilogy. follow the descendants of Hamyn Kanu as they play pivotal roles in most of the major events between now and the ferocious final battle. Whether for good, evil, or somewhere in between, the House of Kanu will make its name known. Imposter is an action-adventure that takes our heroes through many lands and among many peoples. It is a world of long histories and many wars. It is a story of prophets, warriors, and kings. Behind the scenes, the supernatural seems to be at play, whether the characters want to believe in it or not. Though a reader might not find much in the way of Christian allegory in the story, the author would say that the whole book is inspired by the Scriptures. He would describe the story as a fantasy, like Lord of the Rings, without the magic of Harry Potter.

About the Author Abram Klaserner is a physical therapist and speaker at his local hospital, where it has been suggested he is too literary in his professional documentation. The son of a pastor, he has spent his life captivated by the stories of the Bible, and he is a sucker for any good adventure on the silver screen. His love of Scripture and movies has inspired much of his stories, and his insistence on romanticizing reality has inspired the rest. He lives with his wife, three sons, and daughter in New Philadelphia, Ohio.

The book has a terrific finish that makes you wish the second book was ready to purchase. There were many different characters that were developed early, so that was kind of hard to follow at first. However, as the story progressed this character development was necessary. It reads a little like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and the the Game of Thrones series in that there are many differerent countries, characters, and Kings. Just like Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia, this book has subtle Biblical symbolism, yet it is not distractingly overwhelming. This book is a great read.

When it comes to this book- your time will be greatly rewarded. I found the first portion to be interesting and, by the time I had reached the halfway point, it had me hooked and I couldn't put it down. The last 50-60% came in one night's read because I just couldn't stop. The author appears to have planned out nine books and I for one can't wait for number 2. Get to work writing, Mr Klaserner!

Alex Armstrong is definitely not telekinetic. But he will be. And all it takes is a little red pill. Welcome to Pal Tech, the top-secret school for kids with latent telekinetic powers. Like the other freshmen, Alex was recruited sixteen years ago, when neonatal scans revealed his capacity for telekinesis. Now that he’s of age and his powers are ripe for unlocking, he can begin his training. Alex excels. Whether he’s navigating a mock Star Wars Trench Run in lab class, crushing his friends in a game of no-hands basketball, or dodging a paintball-shooting helicopter drone during his Simtest, Alex makes telekinesis look easy. Pal Tech’s president takes notice, moving Alex out of the simulation rooms and into field work with the upperclassmen. His first assignment: join the juniors as they oversee the school’s latest diamond shipment. But somebody talks, and what should have been a routine delivery gets intercepted by a rogue telekin—a rogue telekin who’s already murdered two senators in his quest to kill Pal Tech’s founders. With the other students scrambling to survive, Alex must stop the telekin before he causes any more destruction. There’s just one problem: The bad guy can fly.

Awakening the imagination in all of us By Michelle This first installment from Farley brings us to the secret campus of Pal Tech where we meet Alex, Eva and the rest of his kinetically-charged friends. Here, we are exposed to a world beyond our own minds' simple trappings, where these special teens are being groomed to use their mental powers for the sake of American justice and safety. "Awakening" takes us beyond the every-day, teen fantasy. Farley deftly engages the reader with characters you grow to love, as they are carefully woven into a plot line that keeps you rooting for them through every twist and turn. Farley's book may be categorized as "young adult" fiction - but, it's so much more! This first book of what looks to be a trilogy-in-the-making, is one that expands beyond the confines of age and gender. It is simply an entertaining read for everyone. "Awakening" doesn't rely on shocking gore or over-used, cheap writing tricks to capture you. I really look forward to Volume 2 - as Alex Armstrong is the new young hero we hope will win the day...and the girl!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I really enjoyed this book By Scott I really enjoyed this book. Sort of Harry Potter meets Jason Bourne. Very engaging with suspense, humor and a little romance. It will probably appeal more to younger readers who grew up with Harry Potter, but I am middle-aged and found it very entertaining. There is no doubt the author is very talented. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

Beautiful, Sexy NA Contemporary Romance By Amazon Customer Okay, first off let me start by saying that if you only read one NA contemporary romance this year, it needs to be this one. This is a spectacular debut by Lia Riley. The main character, Talia, is running away from her problems. Her sister died in a car accident—one that happened when she was rushing home to check if Talia had left her hair straightener on. Talia (and her mother) blames her sister’s death on Talia’s OCD tendencies. With Talia’s life going to s***, she decides she needs a break from her life in California and chooses to study abroad in Australia. Lia does such a good job portraying a girl who is dealing with OCD. Talia’s discomfort rolled off the page, and I really felt for her. Her struggle with wanting to be normal, but her compulsion to do her rituals was heart-breaking and eye-opening. TALIA, I WANT TO GIVE YOU A HUG!Anyways…Fast forward to her new life in Australia. Talia is on her way to meet up with a guy who is a total wanker (never heard that term til this book and am now going to use it to describe every dirtbag I meet!) Right in front of the bar is where we meet Bran for the first time. The way Talia meets Bran is quite possibly the funniest “how we met” story ever. I won’t spoil it, but it involved a Kuala suit. And I snorted. In public.Bran is a very complex hero that kept me guessing the whole time. Not giving any spoilers, he has been through a lot with his ex-girlfriend, and the last thing he wants is to have a relationship. But the way Talia and Bran are drawn together is absolutely magnetic. The sex scenes were very steamy and well done. What I really loved about this story was that it wasn’t cookie cutter. These characters were truly flawed, but I loved them for that. Their problems were real and relatable. Also, the secondary characters, such as her friend Marti, who was HILARIOUS and I wanted to be her friend, also added so much to the story. This book made me run through the gamut of emotions. I laughed, cried, snorted, and wanted to punch Bran (the hero) in the nads (and also swoon majorly for him).Lia’s writing is so rich, and the characters are so complex, they literally pop off the page. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good laugh, cry, and beautifully-crafted story.

By stinamadsreads THE STORY:Talia is haunted by past memories of her dead sister and her own OCD symptoms are getting worse. When she learns that she's not going to graduate, she goes to Australia for six months as a foreign exchange student. She tries to hide her compulsions and the fact that she's just not dealing well with her sister's death behind a carefree attitude and tries to start over. But when she meets Bran, a surfer with a bad attitude, Talia can't hide anymore. Bran sees through her act and sees the pain she's trying to run away from. Bran has his own demons to battle and he knows that if he gets to close to Talia, she's going to be trouble. But he just can't stay away.THE COUPLE:Talia first meets Bran when he's in a koala suit fighting some businessman on her way to meet a friend at a local pub. She offers Bran her help, but he shoots her down straight. But it turns out that the friend she's meeting is also a good friend of Bran's, and she's not stuck with him and his bad attitude. While Bran's attitude sucks, the attraction between them is undeniable. Circumstances keep pushing them together and they get to actually know each other, and that is when everything changes. I really love Talia and Bran together. They both have been burned, they both have pasts they want to forget, and both are cautious as things change in their relationship. One thing I really liked about Bran is that even though he puts on the act of being a jerk, he's actually very sweet. He accepts Talia and her medical condition without flinching, and I think that's one of the big things that won her over - he didn't see her as a freak when he found out about her compulsions. Talia is very loving and that is something that Bran needs after what he went through in his last relationship. He sees her outward strength, but he also sees glimpses of fragility that undo him. So they both offer the other what they really need, and I think that's what makes them so perfect. But don't get me wrong, they still have a lot of problems and obstacles to work out.THE ROMANCE:So when a guy tells you that you're perfect and you deny it only to have him reply that you're only perfect for him is total swoon! Bran - he sure can be a jerk sometimes, but he does say some pretty romantic things when it really counts. That is probably my favorite romantic moment in the book, although there is a moment toward the end that I really loved too. All I'm going to say is that Bran overcame his fears to try to get Talia back. And how can you not fall for a guy who is attentive to your needs? Bran pays attention, which can be pretty intense, but it also shows that he cares and that is the most romantic thing a guy can do in my opinion.

First and foremost, I am convinced that Lia must be a relative of mine, perhaps my best friend with a pen name and some serious knowledge of Australia she has not shared with me. I have never, ever, connected with a character before but I swear that Talia and I are almost the same person. Well, only in character traits not her actual story. Off the Map is a beautiful story about love, heartbreak, loss and eventually healing all intertwined. To say I loved it is an understatement.Talia suffers from OCD. To some it may not be a big deal or even comical. But, knowing firsthand, it is a seriously debilitating disorder. You see, I suffer from this condition and the author did such an amazing job really showing how awful it can be. Talia’s OCD has been sent into a tailspin with the death of her older sister, Pippa who was also the perfect daughter. Subsequently, her grades have dropped drastically and she needs a change in scenery. So, Talia decides to study abroad in Australia or in her words, she calls her adventure, Talia 2.0 reboot. Throughout the book you really do watch Talia go through a sort of revitalization. During her time away from a place that is a trigger for her, she starts the healing process that sets her back on the right path giving her the direction that she needs“You’re perfect. You’re only perfect for me.”Bran is the first guy to give Talia a run for her money. Coming off a bad relationship, he has decided what better way to get closure and distance then to sleep with as many women as possible. From the get-go, this brooding surfer told Talia that he did not believe in love. So obviously, I just knew that his past relationship/breakup was really bad. Trust me, it was. But Talia was able to break through those barriers he set in place and get under his skin.“We fit.” I kiss his scruffy cheek. “You’re my perfectly imperfect key.”This story is told in dual POV but more so in Talia’s POV. I enjoyed Talia so much that I would’ve been entirely happy with just her. But I am glad that we got in Bran’s head a little too. Lia has to be one of the funniest authors out there. There is a certain part of the book that I reread twice because I could not stop laughing (trust me you will know it when you read it). The wittiness that she gave Talia was beyond entertaining (obviously another one of my traits). I am a bit dumbfounded on how this could actually be Lia’s debut novel. It does not read that way. At all.I cannot recommend this book enough. Between the humor, the fantastic chemistry between Talia and Bran it is a top recommendation for me.P.S. it is a series but no worries, there is no cliffhanger. The next book will be out soon.

Exalting Jesus in Leviticus (Christ-Centered Exposition Commentary), by Allan Moseley

Review It's one thing to know Bible stories; it's another to know the story of the Bible. It's one thing to be aware of the story's many heroes; it's another to have met the Hero himself. From the Old Testament that anticipates him, to the Gospels that manifest him, to the Book of Acts that proclaims him, to the Epistles that explain him, and to the Book of Revelation that tells of him coming again, your Bible is about Jesus. That's why I love the vision of the Christ-Centered Exposition Commentary series. It models for preachers and teachers how to proclaim—with pastoral focus and exegetical care—the beauty of the gospel from every page of Scripture.Matt Smethurst Associate Editor for The Gospel Coalition Few things are more important for faithful biblical interpretation than reading Scripture in light of its master narrative. The Christ-Centered Exposition series aims to do just that.  In a postmodern age, these commentaries provide pastors and lay people an invaluable resource that is unswervingly committed to the authority of Scripture and the centrality of the Gospel in the Bible’s storyline.Dr. R. Albert Mohler Jr., President The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

People, both within the church and outside the church, tout the book of Leviticus as "tedious" or "boring" and this book is anything but that. Dr. Moseley dissects the intricacies of Leviticus and shows the reader how they point to Jesus. In just about 250 pages Dr. Moseley elegantly walks through Leviticus with his sights set on the coming of Jesus. I highly suggest this book for anybody who wants a better understanding of Leviticus or Old Testament Law.

I've had so many questions for years...decades...about Leviticus, but after reading this commentary, most of those questions are fading and a greater understanding and appreciation of the 3rd book of the Bible is coming into view. This is the second "Christ-Centered Exposition Commentary" I've read (Exodus was first). I highly recommend them to you. They're easy to read, and it's easy to find specific passages from the Bible to read about.

By Daniel Lumpkin This book is so full of insight and revelation of the old testament priest and Israelite's in that it even brings Christ out of the shadows. It offers a new understanding of why they worship and offered sacrifices, what the importance was and who they were presenting these offerings of sacrifices to. A must read if you lack practical understanding of the book of Leviticus!

Set in a plantation in the Solomon Islands, it is blatantly racist towards the natives and started off with describing a disgusting disease which had infected many of them. Even the British plantation owner, who was the only white man there, had symptoms of the disease but he still needed to maintain discipline over his black workers who were recruited for five-year stints and paid very low wages. I cringed at the description of the disease and I cringed at the description of the discipline, but frankly, I couldn't stop reading.Written in 1911, this is a novel about a time and a place. It is also a story of a romance. And a story about a young beautiful liberated American woman named Joan who was raised free and wild in Hawaii, taught to captain a ship, handle a rough crew, and resist marital entanglements. When her ship runs adrift on the plantation owner's property, he naturally falls head over heels in love with her. What follows is nothing short of high adventure and I can well understand the title of this short 190 page novel. There are worker uprisings, long treks through the jungle, murder, revenge, a duel between two white men and a wild assortment of shady characters. The story moves fast and gives quite a sordid picture of life in the Solomon Islands at time. It is a hard life for everybody and yet, as Jack London describes it, is also a life of high adventure as well as a great example of the work of this author.

If you're a Jack London fan you will not be dissapointed By Phil Jack London’s detailed knowledge of the subjects he writes about astounds me, this level of detail can not be dreamed up, it must come from his real experience and to have been out amongst the world that he writes about is what I find most amazing as are the characters he discusses – never a dull moment. If Jack London were alive today I’d absolutely want to spend some time with

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. My point of view. By Kindle Customer Skillfully written and wonderful vocabulary and phrase construction. An average length book full of interesting facets and offshoots of activity that flow out into what I think is a masterpiece of story telling. The title, "Adventure," is most cleverly chosen and fits perfectly the "drift" of the narrative. I enjoyed it very much.

One Tough Cop

Detective Mitzi Reardon doesn't know what she did to anger her boss, but he is gunning for her - literally. Now a prostitute is dead, and she is the prime suspect, with the law hot on her heels. With nowhere to run and no one to trust, Mitzi's only hope lies in the hands of a sexy stranger.

One Sexy Cowboy

Blue Thomas is new in town. Denver's bright lights and big-city bustle are 250 miles and a world away from his family's cattle ranch in Kansas, and he is out of his element. He came to find work and save the ranch from foreclosure, but on a rainy night a desperate woman finds him. Back home he would never let anyone - never mind a beautiful woman - face danger alone. Without fully understanding what he is in for, Blue pledges his help, whether she wants it or not.

One Hell of a Day in Denver

As a trap closes around them, Mitzi must abandon her usual strategy of careful planning and controlled environment, instead relying on quick thinking and a bold, head-on approach that may just get her - and Blue - killed. Before the last bullet flies, Blue will find out just how far he is willing to go to live up to his old-school ideals.

The bullet that killed a prostitute in downtown Denver was intended for her. Fleeing the scene, she winds up in the protective embrace of Blue Thomas, a "dumb cowboy" from Kansas and recent transplant looking for work. Blue promises to help Mitzi get to the bottom of the attack. Assuming she is just another prostitute, he soon learns she is an accomplished boxer and a police officer who just happened to be on duty enticing Johns when the fatal shot was fired.Meanwhile, the mayor of Denver has ordered a change in Denver's crime solving methods - prevention instead of incarceration. This doesn't set too well with the Police Chief. Of course, all Mitzi knows is that the mayor's daughter has been kidnapped and that she and Blue are being railroaded. But why?To find out, you'll have to visit Blue's tiny camper, the public library at the risk of being recognized, downtown Denver, which is crawling with cops, and then sneak your way into an apartment where the mayor's daughter is being held.A little apprehensive at first, Blue soon takes a shining to Mitzi - after he learns she isn't a call girl. And Mitzi? Well she is immediately taken with Blue's chiseled good looks and his good ole boy manners. Is there a future for these two? Only if they can solve the kidnapping, beat the wrap and turn the tables on a corrupt police department.Let's just say, author Kristi Cramer knows how to keep the suspense pumping in this never-a-dull-moment thriller. When you're done, you won't know whether you're out of breath due to the buzz of the police chase or the romance budding between Mitzi and Blue. Either way, you'll be glad you picked up Blinding Justice.

The plus side is their atempt to kill her got screwed up and she has gone into hiding with the help of a hunky cowboy who's not as much of a dumb hick as you might think. Together they figure out why someone wants her dead, uncover a major crime syndicate, and the truth behind a kidnapping plot. And if they start to get some pretty some feelings for each other it's all the more interesting in their action packed adventure.Good paced read with a little bit of everything and great characters! Loved Blue's sence of morals and Mitzi's determination to get to the truth and find Justice.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great Read! By Mary Mooney I received a free copy in exchange for my honest review, so here it is: This is the first book by Kristi Cramer that I have read and I loved it. It will keep you glued to the pages from the beginning and will not let up until the end. I am not sure if it was a suspense with a little romance thrown in or if it was a romance with a twist of suspense. This story has all I look for in a great read, mystery, suspense, love and a sexy cowboy. Great job Kristi Cramer, looking forward to reading more from you!
